WASHINGTON, Jan 13 (Reuters) - The Justice Department's top antitrust official recently won approval from the department to oversee investigations involving Google parent Alphabet Inc (GOOGL.O), a person briefed on the matter told Reuters. The Justice Department and Google declined to comment on Friday. In November 2021, Google asked the Justice Department to consider requiring Kanter to recuse himself because of his work for a long list of Google critics like Yelp Inc (YELP.N), which Alphabet described as "vociferously advocating for an antitrust case against Google for years." The Justice Department's October 2020 lawsuit alleges Google violated antitrust law in how it maintained dominance in search and search advertising. For example, it pointed to billions of dollars that Google paid annually to Apple (AAPL.O), LG Electronics Inc (066570.KS) and others to ensure Google search was the default on their devices.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump speaks at a rally to support Republican candidates ahead of midterm elections, in Dayton, Ohio, November 7, 2022. Kaplan ordered the court clerk to make public the filing that contains the portion of Trump's deposition. Earlier Friday, Kaplan denied Trump's bid to toss out one of the two defamation lawsuits filed against him by E. Jean Carroll. Trump answered questions under oath last year in his deposition by lawyers for Carroll. But he then reversed his order after Trump's lawyers asked him for three days to file arguments opposing the unsealing.
The Justice Department's lawsuit, filed by the Trump administration, alleged that Google violated antitrust law in how it maintained dominance in search and search advertising. For example, it pointed to billions of dollars that Google paid annually to Apple (AAPL.O), LG Electronics Inc (066570.KS) and others to ensure that Google search was the default on their devices. The company also argued that there was no evidence that agreements that Google made related to Google Assistant or Internet-of-Things devices hurt competition. Google faces additional allegations of antitrust violations from dozens of states. It also argues that Google broke antitrust law to hamper rivals, such as travel-oriented websites.
Amélie is one of the few female truck drivers in France. At the time photographer Yohanne Lamoulère met her in 2019, she was driving from Arles to Castellón, Spain, and back at least twice a week, Lamoulère explained over email. The photographer, whose uncle is also a trucker, met Amélie at a truck show in southeastern France where drivers decorate their vehicles for a competition. Lamoulère then shot her portrait of the newly-engaged couple in front of Amélie’s truck, the bouquet placed on the dashboard above their heads. She said it’s rare to see a young woman “aboard monsters like Amélie’s truck” and finds it “very beautiful” to see her forge her own path.

The postponed Buffalo Bills-Cincinnati Bengals game will not be made up following the terrifying collapse of safety Damar Hamlin, the league said Thursday. Now at 12-3, Buffalo trails 13-3 Kansas City for the AFC’s top spot, which carries a first-round playoff bye. If Buffalo and Kansas City both lose and Baltimore wins or ties, Buffalo vs. Kansas City would be at a neutral site. And if Buffalo and Kansas City both lose and Cincinnati wins, a Buffalo or Cincinnati vs. Kansas City championship game would be at a neutral site. Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest, but his brain function appeared to be in good condition, the Buffalo Bills said Thursday, following days of uncertainty and worry.
eggeeggjiew/Getty ImagesIf you've got a big expense in the near future, it can be a great idea to open a new credit card. Accruing credit card rewards is easiest by earning welcome bonuses, which can offer 60,000 points or more. One of the most common credit card questions we hear is a simple one: What's the best credit card for my large upcoming expense? Note that credit card lenders may use many different variations of credit score models when considering your application. That's $175 better than you'd do with the Capital One QuicksilverOne Cash Rewards Credit Card after accounting for the Amex Blue Cash Preferred's annual fee.
New York CNN —James “Buster” Corley, co-founder of the popular restaurant and entertainment chain Dave & Buster’s, has died. Dave & Busters said that Corley was an “innovative and creative force” in a statement confirming his death. Cinch Home Services, a home warranty company, swabbed popular toys of all different kinds and discovered that most of them carry substantial amounts of germs, particularly in comparison to other household objects. For the analysis, colony-forming units (CFUs) were used as a measurement for the amount of germs on the surfaces of toys like building blocks and slime. In this instance, a CFU is a unit that represents a group of bacterial or fungal cells that are multiplying together. When Cinch Home Services polled 1,000 U.S. adults, they found that "roughly 1 in 10 American parents do not believe it's necessary to sanitize their children's toys." The data suggests that those parents, and many others, could be exposing their children to the same amount, or more, germs than household surfaces like toilet seats and kitchen sinks.

Doorbell cameras are changing the legal profession as their numbers surge, lawyers say. "They know she's home, but she has a doorbell camera and never opens the door," Bracker told Insider recently. "Damn doorbell cameras!" No matter their specialty — family law, criminal law, corporate law, and beyond — lawyers know they must move quickly to secure doorbell camera footage. He also agreed that doorbell cameras make it harder for process servers to hand-deliver important legal documents.
Lawyers representing Trump keep getting sanctioned by courts. Sixteen different lawyers have been sanctioned over failed lawsuits brought on the former president's behalf. Many of Trump's lawyers, even if they are not sanctioned, end up needing lawyers of their own to ward off the worst consequences. Still, as many 16 lawyers have been personally sanctioned because of their work for Trump, and Insider has compiled a list. The least successful, however, was a sprawling lawsuit Trump filed against Hillary Clinton, the Democratic National Committee, and several other figures linked to Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign.
Sadly, “The Witcher: Blood Origin,” Netflix’s new spinoff, is a disappointment. Not that the original “Witcher” wholly depended on Cavill as its titular lead. “Blood Origin” is the first live-action spinoff, a prequel deep-dive that chronicles how witchers came to be. Unfortunately, “Blood Origin” doesn’t do much with its excellent pieces. “Blood Origin” just feels like a side quest, something that’s only worthwhile for superfans.
Just over a minute into an early-December game against the Phoenix Suns, Luka Doncic dribbled behind a teammate’s screen. This routine action becomes, in the hands of the Dallas Mavericks’ 23-year-old dynamo, a drastic and multifaceted threat. Doncic might sling a pass across the span of an overanxious defense, to an unmarked teammate in the distant corner. That evening, Doncic went with another option, sticking his rump into Devin Booker and scooting him backward into the lane. By the time Doncic raised up for a 8-foot push shot, Booker could only smack his arm, tacking a free-throw onto the bucket.
The lawsuit claims Musk's ultimatum violated the federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which requires employers to offer reasonable accommodations to workers with disabilities. They claim many Twitter employees with disabilities were forced to resign because they could not return to the office and meet Musk's demanding standards. The former employee, Dmitry Borodaenko, cannot represent a class of workers because he was fired before Musk asked employees to commit to longer hours, the company said. The lawsuit is one of four pending in the same court that stems from staff cuts at the company. Dozens of former Twitter employees filed complaints against the company this week in arbitration making similar claims.

A judge on Monday dismissed most of a lawsuit filed by Kari Lake, the GOP candidate who lost Arizona’s governor race in November, but allowed her to go to trial with a pair of claims challenging Democratic Gov.-elect Katie Hobbs’ victory. Thompson did not take a position on the validity of the two claims, but said Lake should be allowed to present her case. Lake asked a court to toss Maricopa County's results to declare her the winner or hold another vote in the county. In his decision, the judge dismissed eight of Lake’s claims, including Lake’s allegation that Hobbs and Richer attempted to censor her by flagging her social media posts containing baseless election claims for removal. Lake is a prominent booster of Trump’s false claims of widespread fraud in the 2020 election.
Williams said Gen Z job seekers have higher demands because they have more access to company data. Gen Z professionals certainly have higher expectations than those that came before themIt's about more than just salary. When making their ask, a Gen Z job candidate is likely to include their expectations about time off, remote work, and access to other corporate resources. Companies must address these questions in order to effectively negotiate with and bring Gen Zers into their organizations.

A panel of the Washington, D.C., Bar on Thursday made a tentative, non-binding determination that former President Donald Trump’s ex-lawyer Rudy Giuliani likely violated at least one professional conduct rule during his efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election in Pennsylvania. The panel declined to specify what charge Giuliani likely had violated. It will release a final decision later after hearing recommendations related to what sanction Giuliani should receive, assuming the preliminary finding stands. A New York appellate court suspended Giuliani’s law license last year, saying he made “demonstrably false and misleading” statements about the 2020 election while serving as Trump’s lawyer. Giuliani’s D.C. law license was temporarily suspended after the New York decision.
REUTERS/Mike BlakeDec 13 (Reuters) - Fox Corp (FOXA.O) Chairman Rupert Murdoch is set to be questioned under oath on Tuesday in a defamation lawsuit over his network’s coverage of unfounded vote-rigging claims during the 2020 U.S. presidential election. The deposition comes as special committees of the boards of directors for News Corp (NWSA.O) and Murdoch-controlled Fox Corp consider a proposal from Murdoch to re-combine, nearly a decade after the companies split. Murdoch will be questioned via videoconference on Tuesday and Wednesday by lawyers for Dominion, according to a filing in Delaware Superior Court. On Dec. 5, Murdoch’s eldest son and executive chair and CEO of Fox Corp (FOXA.O), Lachlan, sat for a deposition in Los Angeles. Murdoch’s other son, James Murdoch, was questioned in October.
