There's an old Wall Street adage that urges investors to "sell in May and go away" — but CFRA Research says there's an even smarter way to play the market this spring. According to the Stock Trader's Almanac , the worst six months of the year for the S & P 500 starts in May and runs through October. The strategist says traders can look toward defensive names during the May slump, instead of entirely exiting the market. Indeed, since 1990, while the entire S & P 500 gained 6.7% annually, average price gains from equal exposure to these four sectors returned 9.0%. The stock almanac's editor, Jeff Hirsch, said that reducing long exposure and adopting a defensive stance will pay off for investors during the low period.

The group was officially created in 1969 as the “Abortion Counseling Service of Women’s Liberation.”But after running ads in an underground newspaper: “Pregnant? “It wasn’t just abortion,” Barron explained. “Vacuum aspiration was much easier to do, and I think it’s less difficult for the woman,” Scott said. We had to keep the service running.”Laura Kaplan volunteered for the Janes, later immortalizing the group in her book, "The Story of Jane: The Legendary Underground Feminist Abortion Service." Each Jane was charged with 11 counts of abortion and conspiracy to commit abortion, with a possible sentence of up to 110 years in prison.

One country is coming up again and again as the clear investor favorite this year, and there are ways for traders to play it, according to Bank of America. The Wall Street firm said Mexico is "the market's darling," with the Indice de Precios y Cotizaciones (IPC) climbing 12% this year. "On top of that, Mexico is perceived as a country that will continue to benefit from nearshoring," he said. Regardless, for investors tapping into the surge in markets, there are several ways to play the rise. For example, the iShares MSCI Mexico ETF (EWW) is up by 20% this year, far outpacing the roughly 4% climb for the broader iShares MSCI Emerging Markets ETF (EEM) over the same time period.

Here is a list of major declared candidates and other potential 2024 hopefuls in both the Democratic and Republican parties. Political analysts say there is little benefit to him jumping into the race too soon, with the election still 19 months away. In the meantime, he can continue to look presidential, although he still has poor approval ratings in opinion surveys. The former Kansas congressman was one of Trump's most loyal lieutenants and initially backed his false claims of a stolen presidential election in 2020. Several of his key staff, though, have recently joined the DeSantis camp, however, suggesting that Youngkin, is not going to run in 2024.
The US still waits for its high-speed rail revolution

So why doesn’t the United States have a high-speed rail network like those? Many Americans have no concept of high-speed rail and fail to see its value. William C. GOP Sen. Bill Cassidy said the concern over mifepristone and the FDA's authority is "totally alarmist." Cassidy said the Supreme Court's Dobbs decision returned decisions on abortion laws back to the states. The Louisiana senator also insisted that decisions on abortion laws had been returned to the states after last year's Supreme Court decision. "I think Dobbs is the uncomfortable middle ground, where people will confront that there is a diversity of opinion. In September, after weeks of arguing that individual states "should decide the issue of abortion," Sen. Lindsey Graham said abortion was "not a states' rights issue" and proposed a national abortion ban that would bar the procedure after 15 weeks of pregnancy.
A police raid on a bar just outside of London renewed a debate over racist dolls. But despite the long history of the racist trope, the debate over the doll's place in British culture continues. Revellers take part in the Children's Parade at Notting Hill Carnival in London, Britain, August 28, 2022. But it does appear that there is some gradual shift in public opinion happening with the dolls. Nevertheless, the enduring popularity of the blackface doll creates the impression "that we live in a post-racial society," Scott said.
If Scott runs, his campaign will be an experiment that optimism still sells among Republican voters, they said. The question is which side - or bubble - within the Republican Party is holding the most votes." Maidment jokingly knocked the senator for ordering grits, a dish more common in Scott's South Carolina than in northern New England. "The people that are most stressed out about it are the donors," said Chip Felkel, a South Carolina Republican operative. Chris Ager, the chair of the New Hampshire Republican Party and an attendee at the Scott event, said the state's Republicans "welcome him to the debate."

In explosive lawsuits filed last month, Abby Grossberg claimed Fox lawyers bullied her into protecting the network and its on-air personalities in her deposition for the Dominion Voting Systems’ case. Grossberg now accuses Scott of being complicit in the alleged coercion, according to her amended lawsuit. The network fired Grossberg after she initiated the litigation. The topic of potentially missing or withheld evidence is looming large over the Dominion case. Dominion has said that it plans to call Grossberg as a witness as part of its case against Fox News.
The San Francisco Police Department arrested a man in its investigation into Bob Lee's death, per ABC7 News and Mission Local. The man appears to have known the Cash App creator, both publications reported. Lee was fatally stabbed on April 4 in downtown San Francisco. Matt Dorsey, a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors confirmed the report on Twitter. Lee's former wife, Krista Lee, told KTVU Fox 2 that she believes the man who was arrested was an acquaintance of Lee's.
Senator Tim Scott launched a presidential exploratory committee on Wednesday, taking a key step toward running for president in 2024 and challenging former President Donald Trump for the party's nomination. Scott, 57, on Wednesday will visit Iowa, the lead-off state in the Republican presidential nominating process, before heading to New Hampshire on Thursday and his home state of South Carolina on Friday. Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley and activist investor Vivek Ramaswamy have formally launched campaigns seeking the Republican 2024 nomination. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former Vice President Mike Pence are also expected to run, though neither have announced their candidacy. Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina launched an exploratory committee for a 2024 presidential campaign on Wednesday, taking a major step toward a Republican primary arena that former President Donald Trump has dominated so far. "This is personal to me," Scott, 57, said in a video announcing the committee. Scott's move toward a White House run puts him on track to collide with fellow South Carolina Republican Nikki Haley, the former governor and United Nations ambassador who launched her own presidential campaign in February. Trump has dominated early Republican primary polling, while DeSantis has usually held the second spot. The senator, who has been touring key primary states, is planning another swing this week through Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina, his committee said.
Republican Sen. Tim Scott has inched closer to challenging Donald Trump in 2024. Current polling casts Trump, who is battling multiple investigations, as the odds-on favorite. Market research firm Morning Consult shows both Scott and Ramaswamy polling at only 1%, and Haley polling at 4%. And that's after he was arraigned on 34 counts of falsifying business records, charges Trump and his House GOP defenders assert are politically motivated. "Our divisions run deep, and the threat to our future is real," Scott said of the existential crisis at hand.
"Our country is once again being tested," Scott, the only Black Republican in the Senate, said in a 3-minute video announcement. Once he does so, he'll be the fourth Republican to enter the Republican primary contest against former President Donald Trump. Nikki Haley of South Carolina announced that she was appointing then-Rep. Tim Scott to the Senate on December 17, 2012. Haley and Scott could potentially be competitors to win the 2024 GOP presidential nomination. Haley, who was South Carolina governor at the time, appointed Scott to the seat in 2013 after then-Sen. Jim DeMint resigned.
Audio from a police scanner gave more insight into Bob Lee's 911 call, NBC reported. A spokesperson for the San Francisco police department did not respond to a request for comment ahead of publication. Lee, the chief product officer of MobileCoin and former CTO of Square, was fatally stabbed on Tuesday morning, NBC first reported. ABC's San Francisco affiliate, KGO-TV previously reported that surveillance footage from the moments after the incident showed Lee walking around the Rincon Hill neighborhood in downtown San Francisco and asking for help before the police arrived at the scene. NBC reported that the police had found a knife near the crime scene.
Pioneer Natural Resources (PXD) is an oil stock worth owning on its own merits. But a fresh report that Exxon Mobil (XOM) could acquire the Club holding would likely unlock even more value. "That's not to say if Exxon Mobil offered a 25% premium, it wouldn't be done. If you saw a 25% premium, I think that would bring them to the table because, let's be realistic, every independent wants to be acquired by Exxon Mobil." Pioneer's attractiveness stems in large part from its quality acreage and low oil price breakevens, at roughly $39 per barrel.
Club holding Pioneer Natural Resources (PXD) is the biggest independent oil exploration and production (E & P) play. Club holding Constellation Brands (STZ) reported an excellent quarter last week and gave you an 11% dividend increase. This halt, and how regulators and brokerage firms handled the outstanding options contracts, turned simple trades into a big headache for retail investors. Davies said that usually he would sell his winning options trades before expiration, so he does not have to deal with the settlement process. Robinhood later allowed Davies to create the naked short position and therefore to exercise his option. The naked short positions showed an on-paper loss in his account until the stock began trading over the counter on March 28. Another wrinkle is that some types of accounts, including retirement accounts, are not allowed to hold short positions, which created additional steps for traders and brokers to close out the trade.
