Arizona judge says state can enforce near-total abortion ban
  + stars: | 2022-09-23 | by ( ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +1 min
Arizona can enforce a near-total ban on abortions that has been blocked for nearly 50 years, a judge ruled Friday, meaning clinics across the state will have to stop providing the procedures to avoid the filing of criminal charges against doctors and other medical workers. An injunction has long blocked enforcement of a law, on the books since before Arizona became a state, that bans nearly all abortions. The ruling also means people seeking abortions will have to go to another state to obtain one. In another state, Wisconsin, clinics have stopped providing abortions amid litigation over whether an 1849 ban is in effect. Georgia bans abortions once fetal cardiac activity and be detected and Florida and Utah have bans that kick in after 15 and 18 weeks gestation, respectively.

Hyundai vehicles are lined up in the company's presentation area during the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan, U.S., January 10, 2017. REUTERS/Mark Blinch/File PhotoWASHINGTON, Sept 21 (Reuters) - U.S. theft claims were nearly twice as common for Hyundai Motor (005380.KS) and Kia Corp (000270.KS) vehicles compared with all other manufacturers among 2015 through 2019 model-year vehicles, a non-profit group said Thursday. Hyundai said engine immobilizers became standard on all vehicles produced after Nov. 1, 2021, while Kia said it added immobilizers in all vehicles during the 2022 model year. The majority of Kia vehicles in the United States are equipped with a key fob and 'push-button-to-start' system, making them more difficult to steal." But they were standard on only 26% of 2015 model year Hyundai and Kia vehicles, it said.
And rather than worship the divine, the crowd was there to herald the malign: Donald Trump and his brand of hateful, intentionally divisive politics. Similar to a creed, Trump shared his litany of election-denial lies that have come to constitute the Republican Party platform. The intentional coupling of MAGA politics with religious imagery isn’t merely a rhetorical act, either. Trump’s Ohio rally is hardly the only recent example of a politician appropriating religious symbols to seize power. Here, too, Christians are speaking out against his hijacking of the church for right-wing politics.

REUTERS/Kai PfaffenbachSept 21 (Reuters) - England's Football Association (FA) said on Wednesday families of migrant workers in Qatar who were injured or killed while constructing the infrastructure for this year's World Cup should be compensated. Qatar has faced intense criticism from human rights groups over its treatment of migrant workers, who along with other foreigners comprise the bulk of the country's population. Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and FairSquare said on Tuesday FIFA's partners and World Cup sponsors must urge world soccer's governing body and the Qatari government to compensate migrant workers. The government of Qatar has said that its labour system is still a work in progress, but denied a 2021 Amnesty report that thousands of migrant workers were still being exploited. The World Cup begins on Nov. 20 and runs through to Dec. 18.

The Taliban has freed kidnapped US citizen Mark Frerichs after two and a half years' captivity. In return, the US has freed Bashir Noorzai, a Taliban warlord convicted of drug trafficking. REUTERS/Mark Blinch/File PhotoSept 18 (Reuters) - Hydrogen fuel cell maker Loop Energy (LPEN.TO) said on Sunday that its latest cell system can deliver better fuel economy than a diesel engine at current price levels. Hydrogen fuel cells have faced two challenges for broad adoption: they have so far been less efficient than diesel and fuelling infrastructure in Europe is virtually non-existent. "This brings the future forward," Loop Energy Chief Executive Ben Nyland told Reuters. Nyland said that Loop Energy aims to provide the fuel cell system to startup truck makers and as part of hydrogen powertrains provided to big truck makers by major suppliers. The company's biggest shareholder is U.S. engine maker Cummins (CMI.N), which holds a more than 20% stake in Loop Energy.

YouTube discussed launching the site in China but later abandoned the idea, a new book says. YouTube and Google do not currently operate in mainland China. Google and YouTube employees debated whether to launch in China not long after Google bought the site in 2006 for $1.65 billion. After Google bought YouTube, the company struggled to figure out how to launch around the world. It was also an indication that moderating content would be a never-ending struggle for YouTube and its new parent company.
The company can sell existing Yeezy Gap stocks until the sell-off period, the letter said. West, known as Ye, in 2020 signed a 10-year deal with Gap to create a line of clothing under the Yeezy Gap brand. 1/2 Rapper Kanye West talks on the phone before attending the Versace presentation in New York, U.S. December 2, 2018. Ties between West and Gap have been increasingly strained recently. Gap has been struggling to protect margins and pull in sales, blaming inflation and outdated styles at its Old Navy brand.
The letter, which was viewed by Insider, said that Gap will still be able to sell current Yeezy Gap clothing. Ye's lawyer, Nicholas Gravante Jr. of Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft, told Insider that Gap "left him no choice but to terminate their agreement." Ye is arguing that Gap failed to make his Yeezy merchandise available in Gap's brick and mortar stores by an agreed-upon deadline, and that the company never opened dedicated Yeezy Gap stores. In 2020, Ye told Forbes Musk had offered to support him in his attempt to run for president. Earlier this week, the artist said on Instagram that he wants to open his own Yeezy stores starting in Atlanta, Georgia.
“We wanted to address the headlines of today and the past several weeks related to Yeezy Gap. And we are deciding to wind down the partnership,” Mark Breitbard, president and CEO of Gap Brand, said in the email. As it now moves to wind down the partnership, Gap said existing merchandise from Yeezy Gap will continue to be sold in the company’s stores and its website. West also said that Gap was required to sell 40% of Yeezy Gap products in its retail stores, which hasn’t materialized, according to The Wall Street Journal. “While Kanye could have injected a dose of energy into Gap, the incompatibility of the two visions meant that frustrations were inevitable.

Kanye West — the musician turned fashion designer — is walking away from his partnership with Gap, his lawyer confirmed to Insider. Ending the contract means West is walking away from up to $75 million worth of Gap shares — plus millions more of potential future earnings. In July, a full two years after the line was announced, the Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga line was released. The sparse line — that includes anoraks, hoodies, and bodysuits — was the first of the Yeezy Gap label to be sold in stores. The Journal also reported new Yeezy Gap items would roll out in stores this year and that the retailer could continue to sell existing products.
