15 Looks That Did the Most at the Emmys
  + stars: | 2024-01-15 | by ( The Styles Desk | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
After being postponed because of labor strikes in Hollywood, the Emmy Awards returned on Monday night and with the ceremony came what might be the television industry’s biggest fashion show. Though the carpet was gray, there was no shortage of red, a color that also proved quite popular at the Golden Globes this month. (Ms. Waterhouse’s sat beneath her baby bump.) The ceremony was honoring television programs broadcast last year, which gave viewers a chance to catch up with casts like that of “White Lotus” season two. Amid a carpet full of feathers, beads, sequins, diamonds and plenty of well-tailored suits, the following 15 outfits stood out from the rest (for better or worse).

“We think it’s important to stay at that.”The mayor’s budget cuts to parks and libraries have been unpopular. The swim program financed by the Gray Foundation will be a pilot, providing 2,000 second graders with swim lessons near their homes. The swim lessons are part of a broader effort to prevent children from drowning and to address racial disparities in learning to swim. Drowning is the leading cause of death in the United States for children ages 1 to 4, and the second leading cause of unintentional death for children ages 5 to 14 after vehicle crashes, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A 2017 health survey found that roughly one in three Black and Asian students and about one in four Latino students in New York cannot swim.

A reporter, arriving for work, walks up the driveway toward the White House on a rain-soaked morning in Washington, U.S., January 9, 2024. A person called 911 Monday morning falsely claiming that there was a fire at the White House and that someone was trapped inside. In so-called swatting incidents, someone makes a false report of a crime in progress to draw police to a certain location. A Secret Service spokesperson said any fire at the White House would have been immediately detected — and there clearly wasn't one. A county police department spokesman said they are investigating it as a "swatting incident."

"Lift" director F. Gary Gray spoke to Business Insider about the fight sequences at the movie's end. In this scene, Cyrus and Abby have been captured and the bad guys have taken over the private jet Cyrus' team was using. "It was important to design the private jet in a way that it didn't feel like the A380, so everything down to the color palette had to feel different. The fight had to feel different," Gray said. However, according to Gray, Hart was gung-ho on doing as much of the fight sequences himself as possible.

But others have targeted decades-old diversity programs that anti-affirmative action advocates have long tried to dismantle. said Danner-Okotie, who received $10,000 from a separate Fearless Fund grant. The Fearless Fund, Danner-Okotie said, grasped her mission of designing clothes for American women looking to celebrate their African heritage. The outcome of the case could be a bellwether for similar diversity programs. But some have made changes to diversity programs to try to protect them from legal scrutiny.

China’s ruling Communist Party views Taiwan as part of its territory, despite having never controlled it. ‘Lift’ Review: Thin as Thieves

Kevin Hart plays Cyrus, a master thief, in the undercooked heist flick, “Lift,” directed by F. Gary Gray. Beyond the windfall Jorgensen will get from shorting water utility stocks, it’s unclear what he gains from this elaborate ruse. An Interpol agent, Abby (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), enlists Cyrus to steal the passenger plane carrying the gold bars before any damage can be done. Although Abby and Cyrus are old flames, the film doesn’t pick up any romantic steam, either, thanks to what passes for banter. “I was looking at the questions that weren’t being asked,” Cyrus tells Abby.

Classic blue creates a sense of calm. Blue is a classic bedroom color. Ground Picture/ShutterstockAccording to Woolf, blue will be a trending color throughout 2024. "Blue has always been a classic bedroom color, from a pale, airy blue to a deep, cozy navy," she said. Lighter shades of the hue can be tricky to incorporate, so the expert recommends looking for a blue mixed with gray.

I had my first child at age 38 and the second at 41. What I didn't anticipate, though, was that there are also many benefits to having children later in life. But somehow, we've been able to recognize each other as part of the same secret society of older parents. AdvertisementI also often find myself editing the way I talk around other, younger parents . Because although being an older parent can be a mixed bag, it's one I'm very grateful to have been handed.

She thinks millennials initially swayed toward "sad beige" because it was the opposite of the homes they grew up in. We're adding to our Eaton position after learning about data center news that makes us even more bullish about this power management company. Late Thursday, Blackstone and Digital Realty announced a huge joint venture to develop $7 billion worth of data centers across Europe and North America. News like this is fantastic for Eaton, whose largest end market by sales is Data Centers & Distributed IT, representing about 15% of sales. In the press release announcing the deal, Gray said, "Data centers are experiencing once-in-a-generation demand growth, driven by cloud adoption and the AI revolution." AI data centers require both higher power and higher power density relative to traditional data centers, resulting in three times the electric content.

Mount Marapi volcano spews volcanic ash as seen from Nagari Batu Palano in Agam, West Sumatra province, Indonesia, December 4, 2023, in this photo taken by Antara Foto. The 2,891-metre high volcano in West Sumatra erupted on Sunday, spewing gray clouds of ash as high as 3 kilometres (1.9 miles) into the sky. Search operations for 10 missing climbers were under way on Tuesday, local authorities said, with about 200 local rescuers involved. For more than a decade, Indonesia's volcanology agency had sent monthly letters warning the environment ministry and local conservation agency that climbers should keep a safe distance from the volcano's peak, said agency head Hendra Gunawan. The volcano erupted several times in January and February 2023, but its relatively infrequent eruptions during the past decade have made it difficult to analyse, said Ahmad Basuki of the volcanology agency.

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - Top EU officials will raise an array of concerns from Russia's invasion of Ukraine to trade irritants in a summit with Chinese leaders on Thursday that is expected to be long on firm words, but short on outcomes. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Council President Charles Michel and EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell meet Chinese President Xi Jinping in the morning and Premier Li Qiang in the afternoon on their one-day visit to Beijing. There will be no joint statement from Thursday's talks, EU officials said, and they do not expect concrete outcomes from the first in-person EU-China summit since 2019. The European Union will also have questions on Chinese intentions towards Taiwan, but its focus will be on Russia's invasion of Ukraine. EU officials say the two sides could cooperate more on action to combat climate change and to promote biodiversity.

Cher has sold over 100 million records and won a trove of awards, including a Grammy, an Emmy and an Oscar, across her six-decade career. But there's one mistake the 77-year-old singer made earlier in her career that still haunts her — and cost her "a lot of money," she shared in a new interview. While that line made it to the final recorded version of "Believe," Cher's name doesn't appear in the songwriting credits. "Believe," which was released in 1998, is one of Cher's best-selling records to date.
