Healthcare workers topped the list: It said some hospital staffers could reach 60,000 steps, or 30 miles, during a 12-hour shift. I have six children between the ages of 5 and 11, and I've told them I won't pay for college except in very limited circumstances. I'm actively encouraging my kids to consider other options and how much ROI they'll get from college. One of the most interesting responses I've gotten from my kids is asking how they can make money now. Not paying for college might force them to be more financially responsible, but only if they choose — or try — to pay for college themselves. I want them to learn to be financially responsible and viable by earning money, with or without college.

For some Americans, the American Dream has become more like a vision. That's according to a recent Pew Research Center survey, in which more than 8,700 U.S. adults were asked to describe their views of the American Dream. "The American Dream is changing, according to small-business owners," Fara Howard, GoDaddy's chief marketing officer, told CNBC Make It at the time. Thirty-one percent said they'd already achieved the American Dream, and 36% said they were on the right path toward it. The feature would compete with Uber by giving customers some certainty ahead of time as to how much they'll pay for a ride; Risher said surge pricing is "probably rideshare's most hated feature." Economists have told Business Insider that as algorithms get better and more retails adopt easily-changed digital price tags, customers could start seeing it in even more places. Elizabeth Warren and Bob Casey also launched an investigation into Kroger's price tags over their potential to surge prices. But when looking at technological innovations at other big companies to make it easier to change prices, stable pricing likely won't come anytime soon.

DORA requires banks, insurance companies and investment to strengthen their IT security. The EU regulation also seeks to ensure the financial services industry is resilient in the event of a severe disruption to operations. These IT providers often deliver "critical digital services to customers," said Joe Vaccaro, general manager of Cisco-owned internet quality monitoring firm ThousandEyes. This has made banks and other financial services providers more vulnerable to cyberattacks and other incidents. DORA will focus more on banks' digital supply chain — which represents a new, potentially less comfortable legal dynamic for financial firms.

Wharton School Professor Jeremy Siegel no longer thinks it's vital for the Federal Reserve to implement an emergency interest rate reduction, but still wants policymakers to cut quickly and aggressively. "Obviously, I wanted to shake things up," Siegel said of his call for an intermeeting move. However, those expectations have been volatile as investors watch how quickly the Fed thinks it should ease policy. An emergency cut under these circumstances is "just not the way Jay Powell does things," Siegel said.
