Stock-picking hedge funds have become more selective on megacap technology stocks after their drastic rallies, according to VerityData. The research firm identified "fundamental" hedge funds that disclosed 10 to 300 holdings and aggregate holdings of at least $100 million in recent 13F filings. Microsoft continued to be the most popular stock among those hedge funds, extending its No.1 status to a seventh quarter, according to the data. Several hedge funds also flocked to Nvidia despite its jaw-dropping advance over the past year, the data said. Less popular On the flip side, hedge funds dialed back their exposure to Alphabet and Apple last quarter.

Multifamily rents in April were 0.8% lower than they were in the same month last year, according to Apartment List. Apartment rents did rise for the third straight month, but the growth, at 0.5%, is very small. Single-family rents are much stronger, up 3.4% in March year over year, according to a new report from CoreLogic. "U.S. single-family rent growth strengthened overall in March, though some weaknesses are revealed in the latest numbers," said Molly Boesel, principal economist for CoreLogic. Of the nation's 20 largest cities, Seattle saw the highest year-over-year increase in single-family rents at 6.3%, followed by New York at 5.3% and Boston at 5.2%.

New york CNN —The chief medical examiner’s office in Massachusetts has determined that a teenager who ate a tortilla chip containing a high concentration of a chemical compound found in chili peppers, died of a heart attack last September. Harris Wolobah, who had a congenital heart defect, was attempting Paqui’s ultra-spicy “One Chip Challenge” when he ingested the tortilla chip seasoned with both the Carolina Reaper pepper and the Naga Viper pepper. Paqui voluntarily pulled the product, which was packaged in a coffin-shaped box, off shelves following Wolobah’s death in September. The Carolina Reaper Pepper ranks just under pepper spray on the Scoville scale, which measures the pungency of peppers and chilis. The Naga Viper is a bit less pungent, coming in at around 1.2 million heat units on the scale.
