Retailer Bath & Body Works apologized for a candle promoted on its social media accounts displaying a snowflake, which some said appeared quite similar to a Ku Klux Klan hood. The candle is no longer available for purchase on Bath & Body Works’ website. Some social media users assumed the mistake was the result of a lack of diversity in Bath & Body Works’ marketing team. “This sort of thing can easily be prevented by hiring the so-called ‘DEI’ candidate,” one X user wrote. Others were quick to defend Bath & Body Works.

On Wednesday, House Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar, D-Calif., joined Rep. Susan Wild, D-Pa., here on a tour of Latino-owned small businesses. Though she is the incumbent and older than Mackenzie, Wild, 67, labeled Mackenzie, 42, a “career politician,” noting he has served in elected office for 12 years — twice as long as her. “She has a failed record on border security,” Mackenzie said in a Thursday interview after a rally with Johnson in Hellertown. “Every state is a border state, as we say, because they opened the border wide, and ya’ll, they did it intentionally, OK? At midnight, as the calendar switched to July 1 and two of the country’s richest athletic departments joined its most dominant league, college football had officially entered its super-conference era. Unbeaten but somewhat unremarkable this season, Oregon is meanwhile trying to return to the College Football Playoff for the first time in a decade. However, Ohio State versus Oregon in a game that counts not as a non-conference game, or a Rose Bowl matchup on New Year’s Day, but in the Big Ten standings? Their stated aim is to promote more matchups more often between otherwise separated blue-blood programs — games just like Oregon vs. Ohio State. A severe geomagnetic storm brought spectacular light displays to many parts of the United States on Thursday night, with skies as far south as San Antonio bathed in rich hues of magenta and green. The Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights as they are commonly known, are often more visible in Earth's polar regions, but due to heightened solar activity these dancing displays could be seen with the naked eye in numerous southern states. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the storm was ranked 4 out of 5 in severity, allowing for more widespread illuminations across night skies, particularly across Europe.

In August, the Trump campaign spent about $15.5 million on television ads centered on immigration. In the face of this polling, though, Trump is betting on his gut, telling a Wisconsin crowd on Sunday, “I really don’t agree” that the economy will decide the election. And it’s the hardest problem to solve too.”On comfortable groundIllegal immigration is certainly comfortable terrain for Trump. We’re all intellectuals today,” Trump said in a mocking tone in August in Asheville, North Carolina, where he was supposed to speak about the economy. The images rapidly spread around social media, with Trump supporters claiming they depicted Venezuelan gangs taking over an apartment complex.

Military experts said it's partly down to Ukraine's long-range strikes on Russian ammo depots. AdvertisementUkraine is reducing Russia's artillery advantage on the battlefield, and recent attacks on ammo depots have likely sped that up. According to military experts, these developments are likely due in part to Ukraine's recent long-range strikes on Russian ammunition depots. Taking out the ammoUkraine damaged several rear Russian ammo depots using long-range weapons in a string of long-range strikes that began last month. But Kastehelmi said that in the long run, Russia will "most likely" be able to adapt to Ukraine's long-range strikes.

CNN —New observations of Jupiter’s Great Red Spot captured by the Hubble Space Telescope show that the 190-year-old storm wiggles like gelatin and shape-shifts like a squeezed stress ball. Although storms are generally considered unstable, the Great Red Spot has persisted for nearly two centuries. Recently, a separate team of astronomers peered into the heart of the Great Red Spot using the James Webb Space Telescope to capture new details in infrared light. PHOENIX — Republican Kari Lake and Democratic Rep. Ruben Gallego faced off in Arizona’s feisty first and only Senate debate Wednesday evening, trading shots over the border, abortion, tax policy and more. Lake has long made the border a cornerstone of her campaign, chastising Gallego for supporting the Biden-Harris administration’s immigration policies. Gallego, in turn, has made the bipartisan border bill that Trump and Lake opposed a big part of his campaign. “He acts like he cares about us,” Lake said of Gallego, “speaking directly to the women” watching the debate. CNN —Two federal judges have rejected requests to immediately reopen voter registration in Georgia and Florida as the southeast continues to grapple with significant storm damage ahead of the November election. Brian Kemp and Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger — both of whom are Republicans — argued there would be a significant “administrative burden” on the state’s elections offices if the voter registration deadline were to be extended. Ron DeSantis told reporters that there’s “nothing inhibiting” unregistered voters from registering ahead of the deadline later that day. But we’re not going to change any registration deadline. Photos: Northern lights dazzle during solar storm
  + stars: | 2024-10-10 | by ( Emmalee Reed | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: 1 min
Solar flares and coronal mass ejections released from the sun are making colorful auroras visible farther south than they typically do. This solar storm is not expected to be as intense as the one that occurred in May, but it could still disrupt communications, the power grid and satellite operations, according to the National Weather Service’s Space Weather Prediction Center. Increased solar activity causes auroras that dance around Earth’s poles, known as the northern lights, or aurora borealis, and southern lights, or aurora australis. When the energized particles from coronal mass ejections reach Earth’s magnetic field, they interact with gases in the atmosphere to create those different colored lights in the sky. Even if auroras don’t appear visible, photos of the night sky may capture colors you can’t see with the naked eye.

Additional disruptions from Hurricane Milton complicate the data collection for October's jobs report. To stimulate hiring, the Federal Reserve began cutting interest rates in September, and the jobs report will strongly inform its path forward. "I wouldn't expect these events to materially change how Americans view the economy before the election," DeAntonio said. For example, it noted in its release last week Hurricane Francine, which hit Louisiana in early September, "had no discernible effect" on the employment data it collected. Any effects from the hurricanes could lead to an October jobs report that shows a more pessimistic view of the economy than underlying conditions would suggest.
