HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — A group of conservative state lawmakers in Pennsylvania filed a federal lawsuit Thursday challenging three voting-related executive branch actions designed to boost voter registration, including a 2021 executive order by President Joe Biden. One is last fall's introduction of automatic voter registration in Pennsylvania by Democratic Gov. Shapiro's administration said in a statement that it is “frivolous” to suggest that it lacks the authority to implement automatic voter registration. Twenty-three other states and Washington, D.C., already have varying models of what is called “ automatic voter registration,” according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. London CNN —Textile designers and tartan experts have banded together to recreate the oldest piece of Scottish tartan for modern production, allowing fans of the famed plaid to wear a piece of history. Using carbon dating, scientists discovered that the “Glen Affric” fabric, uncovered in a peat bog in the Highlands during forestry work and donated to the Scottish Tartans Authority in the 1980s, dated back to around 1500-1600. The disease was discovered after several moles were removed when she was treated for breast cancer in June, PA said. “Following her diagnosis with an early form of breast cancer this summer, Sarah, Duchess of York has now been diagnosed with malignant melanoma,” a spokesperson for Ferguson said. “Clearly, another diagnosis so soon after treatment for breast cancer has been distressing” for the Duchess, the spokesperson added. Melanoma is a form of skin cancer that develops in the cells that give skin its color, or melanin.

(AP) — A fifth suspect has been ordered to stand trial in an ambush shooting that killed a 14-year-old and wounded several other teenagers outside a Philadelphia high school after a football scrimmage in 2022. A judge ruled Monday that there was enough evidence to hold 17-year-old Dayron Burney-Thorn for trial on murder, aggravated assault and other charges in the September 2022 shooting near Roxborough High School and on charges in a separate slaying the day before. HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania's Republican Party on Monday endorsed York County's district attorney, Dave Sunday, for state attorney general out of a three-person field. The party's endorsement came the day before candidates could begin collecting the required number of voter signatures to get on Pennsylvania's primary ballot. Sunday won the endorsement over state Rep. Craig Williams and Katayoun Copeland, both former federal prosecutors who hail from Delaware County in southeastern Pennsylvania. No Republican has been elected attorney general since 2008. Josh Shapiro ’s second term as attorney general and doesn’t plan to run for the office.

The HMS Chiddingfold, a UK Navy warship, has been involved in a second crash. The mine-hunter collided with the HMS Penzance in 2021 and has now crashed into HMS Bangor. The collision took place off the coast of Bahrain, where the Bangor sustained damage. The two Royal Navy vessels, the HMS Chiddingfold and HMS Bangor collided while docking at port off the coast of Bahrain on January 18, sparking an investigation by the Royal Navy. Video footage of the latest maritime mishap has circulated on social media, that appeared to show the HMS Chiddingfold reversing into HMS Bangor.
