International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director, Kristalina Georgieva (R), with Director of Strategic Communications Julie Kozack, speaks at a press briefing on the global policy agenda during the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Spring Meetings at IMF headquarters in Washington, DC, on April 13, 2023. The U.S. would be better served by maintaining its open trade system rather than imposing new punitive duties on Chinese goods, the International Monetary Fund said on Thursday, adding that Washington and Beijing should work together to resolve their trade tensions. IMF spokesperson Julie Kozack told a regular news briefing that such trade restrictions as those announced by President Joe Biden on Tuesday can distort trade and investment, fragment supply chains and trigger retaliatory actions. "With respect to the tariffs, our view is that the U.S. would be better served by maintaining open trade policies that have been vital to its economic performance," Kozack said. "We also encourage the U.S. and China to work together toward a solution that addresses the underlying concerns that have exacerbated trade tensions between the two countries."

"Lots to love next week, but, look, for many it's really just going to be about Nvidia," he said. Cramer said he's expecting a solid quarter from Macy's on Tuesday and that Lowes 's report that day should be well-received. Wednesday after the bell brings a report from Nvidia, which Cramer suggested is "perhaps the most important earnings report of the year." He noted that the company's last quarter was good, adding that the upcoming quarter could be more of the same. Cramer said he expects Deckers to have solid earnings as its running shoe brand, Hoka, continues to gain traction.

CNBC's Jim Cramer on Thursday picked two footwear stocks he thinks are headed for success: On Holding and Deckers Outdoor , which owns a number of footwear brands including Hoka, Uggs and Tevas. "Even when the footwear and athletic apparel space is a nightmare for most of the industry, you can still find great brands that are winning, like the ones that belong to On Holding and Deckers Outdoor," Craner said. Cramer pointed out that it's not been easy lately for some of the big names in the athletic apparel space. But Deckers and On are two promising growth stocks, Cramer said. On Holding and Deckers Outdoor did not respond immediately to requests for comment.

After decades of painful decline, Detroit’s population grew in 2023, according to new estimates released on Thursday by the Census Bureau. The increase — to 633,218 from 631,366 residents — was slight, lifting Detroit to slightly below levels of 2021. City leaders have long promised to reverse Detroit’s long decline in residents brought on by the shrinking of the auto industry, flight to the suburbs and municipal bankruptcy. The new census estimates showed similar, moderate population rebounds for many big cities in the Midwest and Northeast after previous pandemic-era declines. In the Midwest, cities of that size grew 0.1 percent in 2023 after declining an average of 0.2 percent the year before.

Fortunately, the third round (after a “Queen Charlotte” detour) has the highly sympathetic Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) at its core, adding some additional sweetness to the formula. For the uninitiated, poor Penelope has spent two seasons secretly moonlighting as the acid-tongued gossip Lady Whistledown (still voiced by Julie Andrews, because, well, Julie Andrews! CNN —Almost 30 years since booming his last slapshot drive, golf’s angriest champion is stomping back to the tee box. A sequel to “Happy Gilmore” is in the works, Netflix announced in a post on X Wednesday, with Adam Sandler reprising his role as the comedy classic’s neurotic titular star. Standing in Gilmore’s way is arch-nemesis Shooter McGavin, played by Christopher McDonald, who in March teased that Sandler was working on a sequel script. “The funny thing is that there are so many non-golfers who would know what the ‘Happy Gilmore swing’ is or they’ve watched the film,” Ladies European Tour winner Amy Boulden told CNN’s Living Golf in 2021. CNBC's Jim Cramer listed ten stocks that helped the Dow Jones Industrial Average briefly top 40,000 on Thursday, a new high for the index. "To me, this list is emblematic of the fact that we should spend a lot less time focusing on the Fed—it's really only fueled the gain in Travelers—and a lot more time discussing management and mission," Cramer said. "That's what propels these stocks long term, and that's what makes the difference."

"When I came into Pinterest, one of the things I set out to do was prove a business model for social media centered on positivity rather than engagement via enragement," Ready said. Like its peers, Pinterest uses AI to improve on its recommendation selections, Ready said. According to Ready, Pinterest is also different from other platforms because its users are more engaged than those in older generations. Usually, he said, social media sites attract their most engaged cohorts early on. "Not only are we aging down, our most recent cohorts are nearly twice as engaged as cohorts from the years prior," he said.

As stocks from a variety of sectors saw gains on Wednesday, CNBC's Jim Cramer examined what he believes is a multi-faceted bull market. "This market feels almost blasphemous to me because we're being led by an outrageously bullish combination of stocks, the kind of stocks that absolutely should not be going higher at the same time," he said. Cramer suggested that "the stocks leading us higher are supposed to be mutually exclusive," but that's currently not the case. For example, he noted that industrial, utility and tech stocks are going up at the same time. He also said many believe there's an "either-or" market where tech stocks can climb or other groups can.

"Not only does this tariff protect American car companies from cheap Chinese electric vehicles, it also means that their regular vehicles — their regular cars and trucks and hybrids — will benefit, too," he said. But with Biden increasing tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles from 25% to 100% this year, automakers like Ford and General Motors have less to worry about. Biden will also raise tariffs on semiconductors, solar cells, masks and medical gloves as well as issue first-time tariffs on medical needles on syringes. Cramer also said Ford shares can go higher if the company can "curtail the immense losses in electric vehicles," which will be easier to do with these new tariffs. "The chief reason GM and Ford stocks sell at the bottom of the S&P 500 barrel is because of this existential Chinese threat," he said.

CNBC's Jim Cramer said investors should get out of stocks like GameStop and AMC , both of which saw huge rallies this week triggered by social media. "When I see meme stock mania taking over again, led by GameStop and AMC, I need to remind you that this is irrational," he said. AMC and GameStop soared after "Roaring Kitty," the man who helped bring on 2021's enormous GameStop short squeeze, posted online for the first time in about three years. To Cramer, GameStop is overvalued compared to its peer electronic retailers. GameStop and AMC did not respond immediately to requests for comment.

Last summer, thousands of tie-dyed Burners and Patagonia-clad tech founders converged on the MAPS Psychedelic Science conference in Denver. The experience "broke the spell of this trauma, and she was able to rebuild her life," Doblin told The Guardian . The video team's job was to store recordings of every MDMA therapy session performed in the clinical trials. Grof believes in something called an "inner healing intelligence," an innate capacity for self-healing that psychedelic therapy helps unleash. Another time, a patient who had come to an MDMA therapy session later acknowledged they had been under the influence of LSD during treatment.

CNBC's Jim Cramer on Monday reminded investors that much of the stock market currently depends on the Federal Reserve's interest rate decisions, which are hard to predict as inflation persists. He said he is hopeful new artificial intelligence technology will help cut costs, but stressed that it will not happen any time soon. To Cramer, AI will be a game changer. But the technology is not at a point where it can immediately fix high costs in sectors such as insurance, homes and apparel, he said. This week brings new inflation data: the producer price index on Tuesday and the consumer price index on Wednesday.

The stakes could hardly be higher. This July, for the first time in more than a decade, Venezuelans will vote in a presidential election with an opposition candidate who has a fighting — if slim and improbable — chance at winning. Amid an economic and democratic crisis that has led more than seven million Venezuelans to abandon the country — considered among the world’s largest displacements — Nicolás Maduro, the country’s authoritarian president, has done something few thought he would: allowed an opposition candidate with widespread support to appear on the ballot. Though largely unknown, the challenger is leading in several polls, underscoring how many Venezuelans are hungry for change.

After being criticized last year for its store displays for Pride Month, the annual celebration in June for L.G.B.T.Q. Target has often displayed its Pride apparel and merchandise prominently in many of its stores, sometimes near the entrances. Last year, however, Target faced outrage and calls for boycotts from some conservative commentators and customers over the displays, which included clothes and books for children about transgender issues and gender fluidity. At the time, the chain expressed concern for its employees’ safety after saying some customers screamed at workers and threw Pride-themed merchandise on the floor. Target ended up moving the displays from the front of some stores and placing them in the back.

CNN spoke to three Israeli whistleblowers who worked at the Sde Teiman desert camp, which holds Palestinians detained during Israel’s invasion of Gaza. Reports of abuse at Sde Teiman have already surfaced in Israeli and Arab media after an outcry from Israeli and Palestinian rights groups over conditions there.
