Well, not at Ikea per se, but on the Ikea website — where I purchased the Tillreda, a single-burner induction cooktop, for $69.99. I got a magnet; if it doesn't stick to a pot, the pot won't work on an induction plate. That meant I couldn't do stuff on the Tillreda like boiling soup and pasta, things that require a long time on an inefficient gas flame. "In cases like that, the heat losses for a gas flame really add up," McGee says. I tried one in a cast-iron pan on the induction plate.

Lingerie brand Harper Wilde is getting slammed for a recent ad mentioning Ryan Reynolds. According to a company statement, the ad came from a real review left by customer. While some users poked fun at the advertisement, others weren't so amused by Harper Wilde suggesting sexual contact with a stranger. Harper Wilde/Reddit"The core of our brand is ultimately about designing bras by boob-havers for boob-havers while divesting from the male gaze. While we clearly have customers who are straight women, this single review doesn't represent our entire brand," the company wrote in its Reddit statement.
While the concept of an “API restriction” may not sound dramatic, this latest change has users once again worried about Twitter’s future. Many of Twitter’s users are not happy about the change, as they say it will fundamentally alter the platform’s culture. Some people have used Twitter’s API to provide accessibility options to content, like alt text or image descriptions. How could restricting API access change Twitter? Some users are concerned about what the API access changes will mean for their work.
Elon Musk proposed charging $100 a month for access to Twitter's API. He said the $100 fee along with ID verification for Twitter's API would clean up "bad" bots. It was easy for 100,000 bots "to do bad things" when there was no cost or verification process in place for API access, he said. "Just ~$100/month for API access with ID verification will clean things up greatly," Musk added. Developers can use Twitter's API to create third-party services, such as Tweetbot and Twitterrific.

It remains to be seen how generative AI will transform our lives, but the tech is here to stay. In 2022, investors put at least $1.37 billion into generative AI startups, usually at the seed stage. Why this iteration of ChatGPT made generative AI so popular right nowIt's important to note that nothing about ChatGPT or generative AI is especially new or novel. In other words, OpenAI's real innovation was taking AI technology that was already out there and making it something that was easy and accessible to anybody. That's one reason why there will be a lot more business uses for generative AI technology than consumer use cases in the near term, said Mark Shmulik, a Bernstein analyst.
ChatGPT has announced ChatGPT Plus, a subscription service that costs $20 a month. The service will offer users faster response times and priority access to new features. The new subscription plan will allow paid users to have general access to the bot, even during peak times when users are normally made to wait. OpenAI said last month it was testing a paid version of ChatGPT, opening a waitlist for the "experimental" update. However, the $20 price tag is much lower than the rumored $42 per month previously reported by some users.

Jan 26 (Reuters) - Shares of BuzzFeed Inc (BZFD.O) jumped on Thursday on reports of a deal with Meta Platforms Inc (META.O) and plans to use artificial intelligence to personalize and enhance the digital media firm's online quizzes and content. Buzzfeed, in an emailed response to Reuters, said "we are not using ChatGPT - we are using OpenAI's publicly available API (application programming interface)." Earlier in the day, the stock had jumped 50% on a separate report by the Journal that said Meta was paying BuzzFeed millions of dollars to bring more creators to Facebook and Instagram. Indicating interest from retail traders, BuzzFeed shares were among the top three orders on Fidelity's platform on Thursday. Its third-quarter net loss had widened to $27 million from $3.6 million a year ago.
YouTube, Arizona State University and "Crash Course" — the popular educational YouTube channel founded by vloggers Hank and John Green — on Tuesday announced the launch of Study Hall, a pathway to college credit and higher education resource. Study Hall provides guides about the college selection and admissions process, as well as foundational courses that students can receive college credit for. Hank Green said the idea for Study Hall came after years brainstorming solutions for the student loan debt crisis. Study Hall provides free access to four YouTube courses that cover subjects that are typically taken during early college years. YouTube wants to improve on the experience for learners on the platform without "breaking the magic" of informal YouTube education content, Kurtz said.
Precision was co-founded by Benjamin Rapoport, who also co-founded Elon Musk's BCI company, Neuralink , and Michael Mager. But while Neuralink's BCI is designed to be implanted directly into the brain tissue, Precision relies on a surgical technique that is designed to be less invasive. A BCI is a system that deciphers brain signals and translates them into commands for external technologies, and several companies have successfully created devices with this capability. The device is called the Layer 7 Cortical Interface , and it's a brain implant that aims to help patients with paralysis operate digital devices using only neural signals. "I think that the brain is, in a lot of ways, the next frontier for modern medicine," he said.
Businesses hope the artificial-intelligence technology behind ChatGPT can turn ordinary chatbots into impressive fonts of information, potentially transforming customer service. But customer-experience executives said overreliance on such AI models could lead to companies dishing out incorrect information to customers online without knowing they are doing so. Some executives hope the technology that drives ChatGPT might also improve customer-service chatbots. But companies should exercise care when dealing with the new AI, Mr. Truog said. Nice is also working on building OpenAI’s language models into chatbots, Mr. Willcutts said, adding that the company plans to run more tests and fine-tune more models before selling its own take on ChatGPT to clients.
Can ChatGPT Write This Column?

With every new piece of technology—today it’s generative artificial intelligence like OpenAI’s ChatGPT—I’m fascinated by the possibilities but always ask: Will it scale? So how do you figure out what works and what’s a dud? ChatGPT uses machine learning to find patterns of patterns in training data, mostly written by humans, to produce human-sounding prose in response to prompts. Machine learning is the greatest pattern-recognition system ever invented. It’s why Alexa’s voice interface works and how Google can find you in photos from when you were 3.

That was up from 10% in January 2022, but the pessimists were far outnumbered, with 71% of tech workers feeling positive. Many people spent Covid-19 lockdowns developing their digital skills, and plenty wound up switching from other sectors, like retail or education, into tech roles elsewhere. Professional and business services roles, which include engineering and “computer services,” were down 6,000 last month from November. Even so, employers’ broad appetite for tech skills could put something of a floor under wages — and prop up the appeal of tech roles in general — even as the economy slows. Experienced tech workers, rather than those new to the field, largely drove those pay gains, the jobs platform Hired found in research published in September.

A Twitter user is suing the company for $5 million over a data leak which exposed users' personal information. According to cybersecurity researchers, the leak impacted over 200 million users. Twitter has denied that the data leak was caused by hackers exploiting a flaw in its systems. In early January, cybercrime intelligence company Hudson Rock suggested that hackers had stolen over 200 million Twitter users' information and published them onto a publicly available online hacking forum. "In response to recent media reports of Twitter users' data being sold online, we conducted a thorough investigation and there is no evidence that data recently being sold was obtained by exploiting a vulnerability of Twitter systems," the post said.
Open AI, the AI company behind the AI art generator DALL·E, released the viral bot Chat GPT. Other researchers seem to be taking more measured approaches with generative AI tools. He told Insider he's helping to experiment with a chat bot called "Rentervention," which is meant to support tenants. Linna said he's experimenting with Chat GPT to help "Rentervention" come up with better responses and draft more detailed letters, while gauging its limitations. "I think there's so much hype around Chat GPT, and tools like this have potential," said Linna.

Google, Porsche in talks over Google Apps access

The deal, which is only being considered for the Porsche brand and not the Volkswagen Group more widely, would enable Porsche customers access to Google applications like Google Maps and Google Assistant without needing to connect the car to an Android phone. Spokespeople for Porsche and Google were not immediately available for comment. A spokesperson for Volkswagen software unit Cariad declined to comment. Porsche had previously been reluctant to use Google software because Google asked for too much data to be shared, according to Manager Magazin, which first reported the talks. Carmakers including General Motors, Renault, Nissan and Ford use embedded Google technology in their vehicles via a Google Automotive Services (GAS) package, offering features like Google Maps, Google Assistant and other applications.
