After the cartoon supervillainy of Donald Trump and the smarmy misogyny of JD Vance, the “positive masculinity” of Walz and his ilk is a joyful relief, and these programs are often doing good work. Because rather than challenging the old stereotypes and patterns, the whole positive masculinity framework actually seems to be reinforcing them. “Healthy or positive masculinity is the idea that men can be emotionally expressive, have female friends or mentors, and express their emotions without feeling emasculated,” the website of one such program in North Carolina says. There is a lurking sexism in the whole positive masculinity conceit. “Positive masculinity” is not about de-gendering universal human qualities, and certainly not about encouraging boys to believe that they could have something to learn from women or female cultural norms.

AdvertisementLike Woodman, millions of Americans travel abroad for medical procedures each year, saving anywhere from 40% to 90% on the services they receive. Medical tourism comes with risks; the American Medical Association recommends going only to medical facilities recognized by international accrediting bodies and following up testing with care at home. It's unclear, though, how many medical tourists visit accredited facilities, and there's still the question of whether all these tests are useful for someone who is seemingly in good health. Related storiesSince COVID-19 came into the picture, health screenings and extensive physicals have received some buzz. As more people spend time abroad, it becomes easier to tack a few small medical tests onto your trip.

How did the pussy-bow blouse became a political staple?

Vice President Kamala Harris wore a plum-hued pussy-bow shirt to speak with 60 Minutes correspondent Bill Whitaker. A slew of newly employed women in the ‘70s and ‘80s agreed, and the pussy-bow blouse’s sudden ubiquity in offices cemented it as a symbol of corporate, second-wave feminism. CBS reported on October 1 that Trump backed out of the "60 Minutes" election special after initially agreeing to appear. Trump spokesman Steven Cheung said on X earlier this month that a sit-down with "60 Minutes" had never been finalized. As for Harris, one political scientist told BI the "60 Minutes" broadcast "didn't feel like a conversation." "The '60 Minutes' interview was over-edited, especially compared with Harris' recent podcast interview on 'Call Her Daddy,'" Barndt said. The Florida Department of Health, however, cited local statutes in the cease-and-desist letters sent last week to WCJB in Gainesville and WFLA in Tampa. The threat from the health department underscores the intensity of the political battle over Amendment 4, a ballot measure that would enshrine abortion rights in Florida’s constitution. The cease-and-desist letters from John Wilson, general counsel for the state health department, appear to be part of that campaign. The health department did not immediately respond to CNN’s request for comment about the FCC rebuke. The local stations did not respond to requests for comment, but both stations continued to air the ads on Tuesday.

London CNN —Baby Boomers may be expected to live longer than their predecessors, but a recent study has found that they are more likely to suffer from worse health than previous generations. It covered several generations, including the Greatest Generation (born before 1925) and Baby Boomers (born between 1946 and 1959), according to the study. Younger post-war cohorts, like Generation X, are also at risk of worse health than the generation preceding them, Gimeno said. “Generation X were more likely to be obese, have diabetes, and be in poor mental health than Baby Boomers in their 40s,” said Gimeno. The analysis of 135,000 people living in England suggested that although they’re living longer, their lives weren’t necessarily healthier.

Vice President Kamala Harris announced a new proposal on Tuesday that would require Medicare to cover the costs of long-term care at home. Harris's universal in-home care proposal would require congressional action. The vice president pointed out that her plan could be especially beneficial to those caring for both their aging parents and their children. Medicare currently doesn't typically cover long-term care services at home. The cost of providing in-home long-term care services is staggering.
