NEW YORK CITY — The FBI seized a cellphone and other electronic devices of betting site Polymarket’s CEO Shayne Coplan in a raid on his New York City apartment early Wednesday, according to a source familiar with the matter. The search comes shortly after the company’s markets wagered correctly and controversially in Donald Trump’s favor in bets for who would win the presidential election, despite opinion polls showing a tight race. The source said it’s not clear if Coplan or Polymarket are targets of an investigation. Polymarket, which Coplan founded in 2020, has recently been the subject of intense debate and scrutiny over its creation of election betting markets. The company brought in more than $3.6 billion from bets placed on the presidential election, including $1.5 billion on Trump and $1 billion on Vice President Kamala Harris, according to an NBC News analysis.

Shares of Disney (DIS) are exploding higher – up 10% just after the market open Thursday. And it forecast profits from streaming will rise another $875 million in the new fiscal year, helping to lift results. Legacy media companies such as Disney that have gotten into streaming in the last five years have struggled to make the business profitable as they sought to catch up with Netflix, which had been the only profitable streaming service until recently. Disney needs to have improved results from streaming as its cable and broadcast network business continues to suffer from a combination of ad sales declines an cord cutting by consumers.

What can news outlets do to regain trust and appeal to new audiences without alienating existing readers and viewers? For the past week, CNN’s media team has been receiving feedback from readers of the Reliable Sources newsletter. Mainstream media outlets have been losing public trust for decades, particularly among Republicans, but also among Democrats and independents. Maybe, CNN’s Donie O’Sullivan commented last week, the media collectively spent “too much time obsessing about polling (where did that get us?) As long as President-elect Donald Trump keeps repeating lies and raising controversies, the press will be seen as a hostile force by many Trump voters.

"I voted for Vice President Harris, but there was so much pause in that decision — I debated it for weeks," she says. New York CNN —Advance Auto Parts is closing more than 700 locations to shore up the company’s finances following another dismal earnings report. The car parts retailer, which has about 5,000 stores, said Thursday that the closures are part of its “strategic plan to improve business performance.” Advance Auto Parts (AAP) shares slid nearly 5% in premarket trading after it reported earnings that missed analysts’ expectations. The reduction will result in closing roughly 500 corporate-owned stores plus about 200 independently operated locations. The company did not immediately provide a full list of locations set to close. It recently sold Worldpac, an automotive parts wholesaler, for $1.5 billion as part of “simplification” of its business model.

CNN —Visitors to New York City’s famed Flatiron Building may have noticed the landmark’s lesser-known neighbor — a narrow high-rise that would be modest if not for its extravagant gold dome. Now, the 5,777-square-foot penthouse that occupies the shimmering dome (and the two-story octagonal cupola it crowns) is on sale for $25 million. The five-bedroom, five-bathroom property sits atop 170 Fifth Avenue, which was built in 1898 and predates the Flatiron Building by four years. One of the surest bets when the Federal Reserve began cutting interest rates was for bond prices to rise while yields came under pressure, but that hasn't played out according to plan. This market, which has defied so many historical patterns, has kept the pressure on bond yields up due to a variety of factors, including more persistent concerns about the federal deficit. But her bigger concern remains on the bond side of the markets. She said investors will be "more wary" given the election rally and the pulling forward of expectations about tax cuts and regulation and expectations they will contribute to growth. But it is in the bond market where investors should expect even more volatility.
