Rather, Cathie Wood's loyal investors have been doubling down on her disruptive strategy this year. Wood's flagship Ark Innovation ETF (ARKK) has reeled in $1.3 billion in new money year to date despite a 60% loss, and that is among the top 3% of all exchange-traded funds in the U.S., according to FactSet. Because of the slight weighting, they could afford to be more loyal and patient despite the drastic drawdown. The Innovation fund is focused on advanced technology companies in areas such as genomics, robotics, internet and fintech. University of South Carolina quarterback Colten Gauthier was scrolling Twitter on Monday when he saw news he couldn’t believe: Jeff Saturday, who coached him at a tiny Christian high school just a couple of years earlier, had been named interim coach of the Indianapolis Colts. “I thought it was one of those parody accounts,” Gauthier says.
BOSTON — The former Yale University women’s soccer coach whose cooperation with authorities helped blow the lid off the nationwide college admissions bribery scandal by leading the FBI to the scheme’s mastermind was sentenced Wednesday to five months in prison. Federal prosecutors and Meredith’s defense lawyers had recommended no additional prison time beyond the one day he had already spent in custody. But U.S. District Court Judge Mark Wolf said Wednesday that Meredith’s greed and his victims warranted a stiffer sentence. Before he was sentenced, Meredith, his voice shaking, issued an apology and said he had ruined his reputation and his career because he was driven by greed and the desire to provide for his family. In addition to the prison term, Meredith was sentenced to a year of probation, fined $19,000 and ordered to forfeit more than $550,000.
BOSTON, Nov 9 (Reuters) - A former Yale University women's soccer coach who cooperated with authorities investigating the U.S. college admissions scandal was sentenced on Wednesday to five months in prison for accepting bribes to help parents get their children into the Ivy League school. The prison sentence Wolf ordered came despite prosecutors' recommending Meredith, 54, receive a non-custodian punishment after becoming a key witness in the "Operation Varsity Blues" investigation. The investigation centered on William "Rick" Singer, a California college admissions consultant who admitted in 2019 to facilitating college entrance exam cheating and bribing coaches to secure his clients' children's admission as phony athletes. The investigation led 51 people to plead guilty, including actors Lori Loughlin and Felicity Huffman, two of the many wealthy parents Singer counted as clients. The analysis also found over 30% of adults reported an hour of sleep debt -— when you sleep less than your body needs — while nearly 1 in 10 adults had a sleep debt of two hours or more. “This is a well done study examining a very large and representative sample,” said Dr. Bhanu Prakash Kolla, a sleep medicine specialist in the Center for Sleep Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Social jet lagIn addition, nearly half of the adults in the study reported social jet lag – a bad fit between the sleep timing preferred by a person’s inner biological clock and the one dictated by society. Over 46% of the survey participants reported at least 1 hour of social jet lag, while 19.3% experienced at least 2 hours. Untreated social jet lag can have serious consequences, including insomnia, early waking or excessive sleepiness, daytime fatigue, difficulty concentrating, constipation or diarrhea and increased cortisol levels.
CNN —California has long been a leader among states, and even countries, in promoting a shift to electric cars, including with its plans to ban the sale of purely gas-powered cars by 2035. Opponents of the ballot initiative claim it’s really just an attempt by one tech company to benefit itself at the expense of other priorities. Opponents of the ballot initiative claim Lyft’s support is self-serving. But a rule like Prop 30, which would make it easier for just about anyone in California to buy an electric car, including Lyft drivers. And electric cars are too expensive for lower income residents to afford, so the financial support is needed, especially with sales of gas cars being banned in the future.
While some creators have been pumping out videos about the midterm elections, searching “midterms” on TikTok shows many young creators are more interested in discussing their midterm exams. “Not a lot of people know about it,” Meadow Treadwell, 20, said about her college-age peers and the midterm elections. “With midterms, I don’t know if it’s because I’m not on that side of TikTok, but I haven’t seen any.”The “midterms” hashtag is full of content about academic midterms. Content with the hashtag “midterm exam” has 16 million views and content with the hashtag “midterm elections 2022” has 12 million views. Polling data suggests young voters are less enthusiastic in 2022 than they were in 2018, when 36% of young voters turned out.
Evellyn Singleton, 23, began working as a nanny for an affluent, Nashville-based family last fall. She watched their son, Jacob, during their vacation in Nantucket and posted about it on TikTok. Jacob's mom told me she was initially drawn to my profile because it really focused on who I was as a person rather than just listing my nanny experience. The family was living in Nantucket, Massachusetts, for the month, but they're based in Nashville during the rest of the year. Courtesy of Evellyn SingletonFlying is definitely part of the job, as Jacob's family enjoys travel.

Critics say Tesla's claims and Autopilot have contributed to accidents – and deaths - by making drivers inattentive. The U.S. Department of Justice is investigating whether Tesla itself should face criminal charges over its self-driving claims, Reuters reported. "The narrative of Tesla potentially shifts from this innovative tech company doing cool things to this company just mired in legal trouble.
As a University of Southern California student in the late 1940s, John Shea may have seemed an unlikely candidate to run his family’s construction company, a venerable outfit that had helped build the Hoover Dam and the Golden Gate Bridge. By his own later admission, he spent little time on his civil-engineering studies and was most interested in playing varsity tennis or gambling on backgammon and poker games, some of which lasted all night. One evening, he blew his entire savings, more than $2,000, on a craps game at the Los Angeles Tennis Club, he said in an oral history recorded by one of his sons. His mother had to talk him out of quitting school in his senior year.
Earlier this month, she quit her job to pursue a full-time career as a creator and voice actor. This as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with Joy Ofodu, a comedic content creator and voice actor with 113,000 Instagram followers and 103,000 TikTok followers. I used hashtags and trending music, some of those in-house "best practices," but nothing that wasn't available on the @Creators Instagram page. But I could not, for example, take part in a paid Instagram creator program, or a paid TikTok, YouTube, or Snapchat program. A post shared by Joy Ofodu (@joyofodu)At the time of quitting, I had active partnerships, a primary focus, and voiceover gigs.
A group of Latino academics and civic leaders are insisting on the resignations of Latino members of the Los Angeles City Council after a recording of racist remarks was leaked, while outlining the need to ensure that the city's Hispanics are represented politically in a way that still strengthens race relations. "It is time to chart a principled path for the role an emerging Latino majority plays in our community." “The City of Los Angeles is overdue for institutional reform, especially reform that depoliticizes the redistricting process,” they said. The City Council is up for election on Nov. 8. In the letter, the group requested the opportunity to meet with City Council leaders.
She said that she did not see herself reflected on other dance teams on campus. The history of majorette-style dance teamsStarting in the 1960s, majorette dance teams became popular at HBCUs for their high energy movements that infuse jazz, West African and hip-hop dance styles. The majorette dance teams often perform alongside a marching band in glittery outfits while doing flips in the air or showcasing other gymnast moves. Those performances, usually held at HBCU football games and homecoming events, were an opportunity for majorette dance teams to show off their skill and even battle with rival schools. Another coach for the team, Princess Alintah, agreed, saying groups like the USC Cardinal Divas show that majorette dance teams are not monolithic.
The Los Angeles jury found Dr. James Heaps, a longtime UCLA campus gynecologist, not guilty of seven of the 21 counts and were deadlocked on the remaining charges. Heaps, 65, had pleaded not guilty to 21 felony counts in the sexual assaults of seven women between 2009 and 2018. The jury delivered a guilty verdict on three counts of sexual battery by fraud and two counts of sexual penetration of an unconscious person. He was found not guilty of seven other counts of sexual battery and penetration, as well as one count of sexual exploitation. UCLA patients said Heaps groped them, made suggestive comments or conducted unnecessarily invasive exams during his 35-year career.
REUTERS/Shannon Stapleton/File PhotoThe Silicon Valley automaker sells a $15,000 software add-on called “Full Self-Driving” (FSD) which enables its vehicles to change lanes and park autonomously. That complements its standard “Autopilot” feature which enables cars to steer, accelerate and brake within their lanes without driver intervention. A completely autonomous vehicle would require regulatory approval. “It’s a separate matter as to will it have regulatory approval. It won’t have regulatory approval at that time,” he added.

Reyes said Hollywood films often reflected the politics of their time — and that had an influence on Latino roles. Studies by the Government Accountability Office, the University of Southern California and other groups consistently show that Latinos are underrepresented in the film industry. Just this year, UCLA’s Hollywood Diversity Report documented “enormous gains” by women and people of color, but Latino representation still lagged. Slowly but surely, we are shaking up the narrative in Hollywood.”Calderón is frustrated by the continuing practice of “brownface,” whereby Latino roles go to white actors. Sanchez cited Eugenio Derbez in “Coda” (2021) as an example of a well-written Latino film character.
A video of a doctor saying “the world is flat” has been taken out of context on social media. The book does not claim that the Earth is flat; Friedman uses the term “the world is flat” as a metaphor to talk about the impacts of globalization. The video clip posted on Instagram with text that says, “Doctor on CBS News Mentions Flat Earth Twice Out Of Nowhere,” was liked over 1,500 times at the time of writing (here). In a 2016 CBS interview, David Agus is not claiming that the Earth is flat. He is using the term “the world is flat” as a reference to describe how globalization makes viruses spread more quickly.
Change Research conducted the online survey of 715 adult Black women voters who were recruited via web and text message. The majority of Black women who responded felt they are “under-represented,” or that “more representation” is needed. Black women represent 53% of Black eligible voters, slightly higher than all eligible voters (51%) in the country. Many gave mixed answers, expressing both excitement and optimism about the advances Black women have made and their power, as well as frustration about the state of the country and how Black women are treated. There are currently no Black women in the Senate after former California Sen. Kamala Harris won the vice presidency.
Some may want to see the explosive, racist diatribes of a handful of prominent Los Angeles City Council members as an unfortunate incident that will eventually fade away. But the reality is that such prejudice from Latino to Latino and Latino to other racial groups is not so uncommon. That was on stark display in the conversation among former Los Angeles City Council President Nury Martinez, council members Kevin De León and Gil Cedillo and Los Angeles County Federation of Labor President Ron Herrera, who resigned Monday. "If you’re going to talk about Latino districts, what kind of districts are you trying to create?” she asks her colleagues in frustration. Zapotecs, or Indigenous people of Oaxacan descent, number about 200,000 in Los Angeles County, one of the largest Oaxacan communities outside Mexico.
Edge & Node, the startup behind the Web3 protocol The Graph, has a new interim CEO, Brandon Ramirez. The same goes for the developers seeking to build decentralized apps, or dapps, as they're commonly called. Companies such as the decentralized-finance startups Sushi and Lido and the crypto research startup Messari have used The Graph for their development. Like many blockchain developers, Ramirez earned his programming chops in enterprise software. Ramirez, Tal, and Pohlmann founded The Graph in 2018 to help create some of that basic infrastructure.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration findings come nearly three years after the agency's inspectors began documenting quality-control issues at the same Lilly plant in Branchburg, New Jersey. FDA inspectors returned to the plant this past July, spending 12 days there. Lilly did not directly respond to questions about the FDA inspectors' findings. The FDA report did not say whether the medicines in question were ultimately shipped to customers or discarded. In November 2019, FDA inspectors found that quality-control data had been deleted and not appropriately audited at the New Jersey plant.
