Still, they are quick to forecast both would be more encouraging to investors than Lopez Obrador. President Lopez Obrador's popularity stems from his personal, austere, simple way of governing," Sheinbaum said. Many of Lopez Obrador's biggest public works look increasingly like they will not be completed on his watch. In May 2021, a Mexico City metro overpass collapsed, killing or injuring dozens of people.
A government Truth Commission report in August muddied the waters by presenting questionable screen captures of message exchanges as evidence, according to the Interdisciplinary Group of Independent Experts. On Sept. 26, 2014, local police took the students off buses they had commandeered in Iguala, Guerrero. The students’ bodies have never been found, though fragments of burned bone have been matched to three of the students. The experts group said that a forensic analysis of screen captures of messages allegedly sent between people participating in the abduction and disappearance of the students could not be confirmed as authentic and displayed a number of inconsistencies. They also stressed the importance of maintaining the independence of the special prosecutor.

The bid amounts for the unit, known too as Banamex, were not disclosed by the sources. The sources also cautioned that no deal was guaranteed with any party and Citigroup could ultimately decide to sell Banamex shares on the Mexican Stock Exchange instead. Inbursa and Grupo Mexico declined to comment. Backed by Slim, Mexico's richest person, Inbursa was flagged as a strong contender when Citigroup put Banamex up for sale in January. However, mining tycoon Larrea has the firepower to compete as a candidate to buy Banamex, the sources said.
"There are many alternatives to importing non-GMO yellow corn from the United States," Suarez said in an interview on Wednesday. It was the strongest indication yet from Mexico's Agriculture Ministry that the ban will hit yellow corn destined for livestock feed. The 2020 decree by Mexico President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador aims to phase out GM corn and the herbicide glyphosate by 2024. Yellow corn imports had become more expensive than domestic production, another incentive for farmers to make the switch, Suarez said. The government was working to make agreements with local corn growers to specifically increase yellow corn production to 6 million tonnes, he added.
CTM representatives say their unions defend worker rights, offer perks such as scholarships and sports programs and abide by Mexico's new labor rules. Along with La Liga, other new unions have also won victories over powerful rivals in the past year at GM, Japan's Panasonic (6752.T) and French glassmaker Saint-Gobain (SGOB.PA), pledging better pay. Even among the new crop, La Liga stands out for its broader vision: targeting companies no matter the sector, no matter the location. Leaving her three kids at home, she is traveling factory to factory seeking support. What's more, to drum up support, La Liga must fight a deeply embedded culture of fear and apathy around speaking out.
MEXICO CITY, Oct 26 (Reuters) - Bank of Mexico board member Gerardo Esquivel cautioned against increasing the monetary policy rate to "excessively" restrictive levels as the economy remains weak, saying the bank's current rate-hiking cycle could end with rates between 10%-10.25%. But he stressed that it was "important to start thinking about" what that level would be using the so-called ex ante real rate, defined as the difference between the nominal interest rate and expected inflation. His comments come after the minutes of Banxico's last monetary policy decision highlighted that further rate hikes were on the table. The minutes said the board would "assess the magnitude of the upward adjustments in the reference rate" in coming decisions. "We're already at a restrictive level that the Fed is clearly not at," he said.
