MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay (AP) — Neymar was in tears as he left the field with a left knee injury at the end of the first half of Brazil's 2-0 World Cup qualifying loss at Uruguay on Tuesday. Neymar used crutches as he left the stadium. Brazil's doctor Rodrigo Lasmar told reporters it was too early to determine the severity of Neymar's injury. Brazil went on to suffer its first loss in 37 matches in World Cup qualifying. Neymar made his national team debut in 2010 and has 79 goals in 128 appearances for Brazil.

Federal regulators have opened a preliminary investigation into whether Cruise autonomous cars exercised "appropriate caution" in and around pedestrians, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration wrote in a filing. The NHTSA probe was prompted by two reports involving pedestrian injuries and Cruise vehicles in recent months. One incident on Oct. 2 involved a situation where a pedestrian was thrown by another vehicle into the path of a driverless Cruise vehicle. Proponents have argued that driverless vehicles are safer than human-driven ones. Other companies, including some based in China, are also testing driverless vehicles on San Francisco streets.

Sitting with uncertainty is hard, especially when social media has primed us to expect perfect real-time information during traumatic events and to want instantaneous answers and resolution. Knee-jerk social media posts are not what bother me most, though. Instead, it’s the idea that not posting is wrong somehow — that everyone needs to speak, all the time. It implies it’s not OK to have any uncertainty about what’s going on or any kind of moral analysis that does not lend itself to presentation in a social media post. If the destruction of Gaza is not the goal, it is a very real possibility, and that should be equally unacceptable.

LIVERPOOL, England, Oct 15 (Reuters) - Liverpool's fine start to the Women's Super League season came to a shuddering halt on Sunday as Everton grabbed a 1-0 win in the Merseyside derby at Anfield, while Manchester City thrashed Bristol City 5-0 to lead the table. That result saw the Reds slip to fifth spot after City's hammering of bottom side Bristol put them top with seven points after three games, one point ahead of Liverpool. It was Russo's first league goal for the Gunners since her move from Manchester United in the close season and came in front of a crowd of more than 35,000 at the Emirates. Champions Chelsea are third on seven points after goals in each half from Sam Kerr and Erin Cuthbert gave them a comfortable 2-0 home win over West Ham United on Saturday. The Eagles (5-1) got one more chance to win when they got the ball back, but the defense stiffened — as it had all game. Hurts finished 28 of 45 for 280 yards and one touchdown but had three picks against a Jets defense that was missing starting cornerbacks Sauce Gardner and D.J. By rule, only the player who lost the ball could recover the forward fumble in the end zone, so it was ruled that it was the Jets' ball on the 1. The Eagles took advantage of some poor tackling by the Jets in the second quarter. Medical device stocks of all kinds were pummeled over the past week as investors tried to calculate the ripple effects of new weight loss drugs. While the use of the GLP-1 drugs to treat obesity is still very limited at this point, it is expected to soar to a $100 billion market or more, by some estimates. Judging by the momentum in the stocks, investors have been betting that as people lose weight, there will be a decline in knee replacement surgery. A case for more knee surgery? Based on Truist's polling of 50 hospital administrators, the analyst expects the third quarter will show a slowing pace of knee replacement surgeries compared to the first half of 2023.

REUTERS/Lucy Nicholson/Illustration/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsOct 13 (Reuters) - UnitedHealth (UNH.N) reported a third-quarter profit on Friday ahead of analysts' estimates, helped by a lower-than-feared rise in medical costs at the company's health insurance unit. UnitedHealth's profit beat and slight raise in annual forecast set the stage for other insurers in the industry that suffered a nearly $60-billion wipeout in market value in June, on fears of a spike in medical costs. UnitedHealth said in July it expects quarterly medical costs to be "a little bit lower" sequentially. In the third quarter, the company's medical loss ratio, the percentage of spend on claims compared to premiums collected, was 82.3%, versus 83.2% in the second quarter.

Unlike Russia, one of the world's top oil and gas producers, Israel has very modest energy production. But there is a risk the war could spread to major energy producers in the Middle East and affect oil and gas flows. Second, a deal being brokered by Washington to normalise relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel, which could see the kingdom increase oil output, could be derailed. Saudi Arabia told the White House it is willing to boost oil production early next year to help secure the deal, the Wall Street Journal reported last week. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak added on Thursday that current oil prices factored in the conflict and reflected the market's belief that risks posed by the clashes were not that high.

BRUSSELS, Oct 11 (Reuters) - Belgium's stand-in captain Romelu Lukaku said he would welcome Thibaut Courtois back into the national team with open arms after the goalkeeper walked out of the squad in June. Courtois tore knee ligaments and underwent surgery in August, delaying any resolution, but earlier this week Belgium fullback Timothy Castagne said he did not think Courtois could return to the squad without any explanation. “The day Thibaut decides to return, he will simply return. CNBC's Jim Cramer on Wednesday explained how GLP-1 drugs are influencing market action. GLP-1 drugs were initially approved to treat diabetes, but many found off-label use to help with weight loss. Popular GLP-1 drugs include Eli Lilly 's Mounjaro and Novo Nordisk 's Wegovy, the latter of which has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for weight loss management. Even though it seems early to asses the impact of these drugs, they are already affecting stocks, Cramer said. Intuitive Surgical also saw shares slide when executives noted slowed growth in bariatric surgeries last quarter, potentially due to increased use of GLP-1 drugs.
