AdvertisementRussia's retaking territory in Kursk, but efforts to drive the Ukrainian forces out of the country will likely only get more difficult. Ukrainian troops invaded the Kursk region in southwestern Russia in August, and at one point, they held roughly 500 square miles of Russian territory. Russia's response to the shock assault was slow, but a larger effort to drive the Ukrainians out is now underway. Michael Bohnert, a warfare expert at RAND Corporation, told BI Ukraine doesn't have to defend Russian cities. Intel’s shares (INTC) have declined 54% this year, making it the worst performer on the index and leaving it with the lowest stock price on the price-weighted Dow. The stock fell about 1% in extended trading on Friday, while Nvidia (NVDA) was up 1.5%. Launched in 1968, the Silicon Valley pioneer sold memory chips before switching to processors that helped launch the personal computer industry. In the 1990s, “Intel Inside” stickers turned commodity electronic components into premium products and eventually became ubiquitous on laptops. The company’s 10-for-one stock split in June also helped pave the way for its addition to the index, making its soaring shares more accessible to retail traders.

Hong Kong CNN —China appears to have built a new and unusual aircraft carrier, intriguing experts with a potentially first-of-its-kind vessel that could further increase Beijing’s rapidly expanding maritime power. This potential new aircraft carrier “is of a somewhat unusual shape and size – much smaller than China’s previous naval aircraft carriers,” said Thomas Shugart, a former US Navy submarine commander and now a fellow at the Center for a New American Security. Another view of the satellite imagery captured on October 23, 2024, showing a potentially new class of a Chinese aircraft carrier at a shipyard in the southeastern end of the country. Only the United States Navy operates aircraft carriers bigger than the Fujian. Conducted in the South China Sea, the exercise was “aiming to enhance the integrated combat capability of the aircraft carrier formations” and was “part of the Liaoning aircraft carrier formation’s regular real-combat training in the high seas,” Xinhua said.
