EV battery replacements could cost anywhere from $5,000 to $20,000, according to Recurrent. Recurrent studied how common it was for early EV models' batteries to be replaced. Including the two well-known EV battery pack recalls raises that percentage of battery replacements to 6.5%, according to Recurrent, or 975 of the 15,000. The Tesla Model 3 had one of the lower rates of battery replacement. David Zalubowski/APWhy does the likelihood of battery replacement matter?
SummarySummary Companies Gold might retest support at $1,945/oz - technicalsU.S. dollar down 0.2%Global stocks rise on TuesdayMarch 28 (Reuters) - Gold prices rose on Tuesday as the dollar slipped, although an improvement in risk appetite after efforts by regulators to allay fears over the global banking system limited the safe-haven metal's appeal. "The U.S. dollar seems to be stabilising, this should entice fresh buying back into the (gold) market," said Clifford Bennett, chief economist at ACY Securities. However, gold remains the "resolute safe-haven" in a "rolling risk environment" for the banking sector as risks of contagion are far more persistent than the market would like to believe, Bennett added. Gold might retest a support at $1,945 per ounce, a break below could open the way towards $1,927, Reuters technical analyst Wang Tao said. Spot silver eased 0.1% to $23.06 per ounce, while platinum rose 0.5% to $976.87 and palladium added 0.7% at $1,418.44.
The market sell-off earlier this month has hurt small-cap stocks more than their larger peers. According to Bennett, these companies will be less impacted by macroeconomic trends, making them ideal investments in a challenging market environment. The S & P 600 small-cap index is down by 8% this month compared to the large-cap S & P 500 , which has regained nearly all of its losses over the month to date. Bennett also said small-cap growth stocks do better when leading economic indicators point toward a recession. Meanwhile, Alger's Bennett believes that stocks in his fund rely more on innovation and technology than on industry or economy-level growth.

Hong Kong CNN —Banking stocks in Asia fell on Thursday, dragging the broader markets lower, as troubles at Credit Suisse sparked fears that banking turmoil is spreading around the world. The lender said it would borrow up to 50 billion Swiss Francs ($53.7 billion) from the Swiss National Bank. In Hong Kong, Standard Chartered (SCBFF) sank nearly 4%. Local bank BOC Hong Kong was down 3.1%. The bank failures had already forced US regulators to take emergency measures on Sunday to protect deposits at both lenders: Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank.
Ron DeSantis says it's not in the "vital" interests of the US to help Ukraine defend itself from Russia. But as a member of Congress in 2015, DeSantis offered strong support for arming Kyiv. Trump's first impeachment was linked, in part, to his dealings with Ukraine and a decision to freeze vital security aid to Kyiv. To be sure, it was the Trump administration who first provided US lethal aid to Ukraine, providing Javelin anti-tank missiles. Recent polling also suggests that Republican voters are more likely than Democratic voters to oppose further aid to Kyiv.
Experts believe severe turbulence may increase in years to come as patterns of severe weather continue around the globe. But pilots also have to contend with clear-air turbulence, which is turbulence that has no visible cause. Weather researchers further predict clear-air turbulence will double by 2050, with severe turbulence increasing the most. "The highest altitude flights over the North Atlantic will encounter the most significant increase in severe turbulence," Bennett said. Only 1% of the atmosphere has moderately severe turbulence, and a few tenths of a percent have severe turbulence," she said.
HelloFresh will stop buying coconut milk sourced in Thailand, Axios reported. It revealed that monkeys on HelloFresh suppliers' coconut farms were being kept in poor conditions. PETA accused Suree and Aroy-D, HelloFresh's former coconut milk suppliers, of keeping monkeys chained on dirt patches with no protection from the elements. Major retailers, including Walmart, Target, and Costco, have already stopped selling coconut milk from certain Thai suppliers, but HelloFresh's move goes one step further, banning all coconut milk exports from the country. It's now calling on Whole Foods and other retailers to stop sourcing coconut milk from Thailand, it said in a press release.

The bill gives the Commerce Department the ability impose restrictions up to and including banning TikTok and other technologies that pose national security risks, said Democratic Senator Mark Warner, who chairs the Intelligence Committee. He said it would also apply to foreign technologies from China, Russia, North Korea, Iran, Venezuela and Cuba. TikTok said in a statement that any "U.S. ban on TikTok is a ban on the export of American culture and values to the billion-plus people who use our service worldwide." Warner said it was important the government do more to make clear what it believes are the national security risks to U.S. from the use of TikTok. McCaul said he thinks the full U.S. House of Representatives could vote on bill this month.

Despite the volatility, the Dow Jones Industrial Average , S & P 500 , and Nasdaq Composite all remain in positive territory — but market watchers are divided on whether this is the start of a new bull market or just another bear market rally. Michael Landsberg, partner and chief investment officer at Landsberg Bennett Private Wealth Management, is firmly in the latter camp. Several risks remain in the market, according to Landsberg. For example, short-duration fixed income is an "attractive" area of the market right now, according to Landsberg. One sector that Landsberg is avoiding is "profitless tech," as he believes earnings in the sector will continue to decelerate.
GENEVA, March 6 (Reuters) - The Taliban's treatment of women and girls in Afghanistan could amount to a crime against humanity, according to a U.N. report presented on Monday at the Human Rights Council in Geneva. In a report covering July to December 2022, the U.N. Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Afghanistan, Richard Bennett, found that the Taliban's treatment of women and girls "may amount to gender persecution, a crime against humanity". "The Taliban's intentional and calculated policy is to repudiate the human rights of women and girls and to erase them from public life," Bennett told the United Nations Human Rights Council. "It may amount to the international crime of gender persecution for which the authorities can be held accountable." Bennett said the Human Rights Council should send a strong message to the Taliban that the "abysmal treatment of women and girls is intolerable and unjustifiable on any ground, including religion".

He noted that stock prices are "off their highs" — and the market has never failed to rebound to new highs.

Furthermore, Fox misstates the damages causation standard that will be at issue at trial. While Delaware law employs the rule of "but for" causation, New York law-which governs this case-applies a different standard. For proving special damages, New York requires only that the tortious conduct was "a substantial factor in the plaintiff's injury." See Brown v. New York, 31 N.Y.3d 514, 519 (2018); N.Y. Many companies, scrambling to find workers amid the lowest U.S. unemployment rate since 1969, see automation as a quick fix. Burnstein said there was a visible slowdown in orders at the end of the year, which raises a question about how 2023 will evolve. A shift away from pandemic-era consumer behavior likely played a role in the orders drop-off in some segments, he added. "You saw companies like Amazon put a pause on building new warehouses, which means they probably canceled or delayed purchases of new automation." Burnstein said robot makers saw some customers place extra orders during the COVID-19 health crisis - just to ensure they would get part of what they needed.
Recent polls show aging leaders are a concern for Americans in general, and Biden's age in particular worries Democratic voters. Biden's public approval rating was just 41% in a Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll that closed on Sunday. They're targeting key subsets of voters, such as those who flipped from supporting Trump in 2016 to Biden in 2020. Overall, Biden's approval rating among the group rose from 31% to 52% during the speech, and six in ten liked the speech. Attacking Republicans for threatening Social Security and Medicare is expected to be particularly salient in competitive states like New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Florida with large proportions of elderly voters.
