Support from North Korea — in the form of weapons and ammunition — helps Russia keep up the pressure. KCNA via REUTERSOne of the biggest asks from Kim could be technology for nuclear-powered submarines, which North Korea is trying to build. North Korea currently maintains one of the world's largest fleets, with estimates ranging from 64 to 86 total subs. Much of the country's stockpiles date back decades, and US and South Korean officials have raised doubts about the effectiveness of these weapons. CNN —The Almighty won’t be standing on stage alongside Joe Biden on Thursday night. Biden’s campaign laid the groundwork for the Atlanta showdown hosted by CNN in a weekend memo. If Trump rants and vents his 2020 election lies on Thursday, he will play into Biden’s hands. That could avoid the mayhem of the first Trump v. Biden debate in 2020. His campaign has spent days trying to roll back his expectations of Biden as a doddering, elderly president who can’t string two words together.

SLB (SLB) has been on our radar for some time and its recent underperformance produces an interesting opportunity to gain long exposure with substantial upside potential. That's nearly a 35% discount to the average S & P 500 stock, implying that the technical upside target is well within its historical valuation range. With low volatility, options prices on SLB are extremely inexpensive and would benefit from a simple strategy such as buying a call option. Additionally, we are only risking 7.7% of the stock's price to gain unlimited upside exposure. For many years, South Korean activists and North Korean defectors have sent balloons to the North, loaded with propaganda material criticizing dictator Kim Jong Un and USB sticks filled with K-pop songs and South Korean television shows – all strictly prohibited in the impoverished, highly isolated nation. Choi, co-founder of the Committee for Reforming and Opening North Korea, is among the North Korean defectors who have vowed to continue sending balloons to their homeland. The leaflets include declarations of freedom for the North Korean people, and propaganda messages against dictator Kim Jong Un. Charles Miller/CNNFitted with GPS trackers, the activists can monitor these next generation “smart” balloons in real time on journeys that often span hundreds of kilometers. Relations between the two countries thawed somewhat in 2017 and 2018, allowing some South Korean elements, including parts of its pop culture, to seep into the hermit nation.

CNN —Kenyan President William Ruto said Wednesday that he will not sign a controversial finance bill that had sparked deadly protests in the country and left at least six people dead. “Having reflected on the continuing conversation regarding the content of the finance bill 2024, and listening keenly to the people of Kenya who have said loudly that they want nothing to do with this Finance Bill 2024, I concede, and therefore I will not sign the 2024 finance bill,” Ruto said during a television address Wednesday. But the concessions were not enough to quell protests amid the rising cost of living. On Tuesday they turned deadly when security forces fired teargas and live ammunition at protesters. “I send my condolences to the families of those who lost their loved ones in this very unfortunate manner,” Ruto added.

CNN —CNN on Thursday will do something no network has done in more than 35 years – host its own general election presidential debate. Thursday night’s presidential debate, a marketing coup for CNN and its new chief executive, Mark Thompson, will offer the network a bright spot – and expectations of record ratings, even if viewers end up watching the debate on other networks. No matter where viewers tune in to watch the primetime matchup between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, it will be clear this is a CNN debate. Rival networks, for example, have agreed to use CNN in the programming title and keep the red CNN logo on screen throughout the debate. For CNN, the branding boost from the debate may provide a much-needed shot in the arm.

Members of Bolivia’s military attempted to storm the presidential palace in the capital, La Paz, on Wednesday afternoon, in an apparent coup attempt led by a top general who declared he was leading an effort to “re-establish democracy.”Video on Bolivian television showed security forces in riot gear occupying the country’s main political square, Plaza Murillo, a camouflaged tank ramming into a palace door and soldiers trying to make their way into the palace. Then, just as quickly as they had appeared, the general, Juan José Zúñiga disappeared, and his supporters in the armed forces pulled back and were replaced by police officers supporting the president. The country’s democratically elected president, Luis Arce, even dared to venture into the plaza, after calling on Bolivians “to organize and mobilize against this coup and in favor of democracy.”

and other leagues moved more of their games onto cable and satellite broadcasters and subscription streaming services. The strategy has paid off: Ninety-three of the 100 most-watched programs on television last year were N.F.L. dismissed offers to create cheaper services that would have let fans buy games based on teams. They are seeking damages of $7 billion, which could be tripled under antitrust statutes. That could take a significant bite out the league’s annual media rights, which are now worth more than $10 billion a year.

France could only come second in Group D at Euro 2024 after a 1-1 draw with Poland in Dortmund. AdvertisementThe second half started in a similar manner, before a penalty in the 56th minute — scored by Kylian Mbappe, in his mask — gave France the lead. The theme continued in the second half as Skorupski was initially a match for everything that France threw at him, making seven saves in total. It took a penalty to finally beat him — Jakub Kiwior brought down Dembele and Mbappe sent Skorupski the wrong way. The other half, which awaited the team who finished second in Group D, has some of Euro 2024’s form teams — Portugal, Spain and Germany.

The United States under President Biden is a “dictatorship,” according to Doug Burgum, governor of North Dakota. “Under Joe Biden,“ Burgum told Fox News, “we’re actually living under a dictatorship today where he’s, you know, bypassing Congress on immigration policy; he’s bypassing Congress on protecting our border; he’s bypassing Congress on student loan forgiveness; he’s defying the Supreme Court.”Asked on Sunday to defend his claim, Burgum, who is apparently on the short list of potential running mates for Donald Trump, stood his ground, telling CNN that Biden is “bypassing the other two branches of government to push an ideological view of — whether it’s on economics or whether it’s on climate extremism — he’s doing that without using the other branches.”It is an odd sort of dictatorship in which the head of state is bound by the rule of law as well as by the authority of other constitutional actors, one in which the dictator’s critics can organize to defeat him in an election without intimidation, penalty or threat of legal sanction — and in which he will leave office if he loses. If nothing else, it is hard to imagine a world in which Biden is both a dictator and someone who would allow Burgum, a regime opponent, to speak freely on national television as he works to defeat Biden at the ballot box.
