The S & P 500 gave up post-Fed gains Wednesday and closed modestly lower. Morgan Stanley should have a decent pop when trading opens because lower interest rates should boost parts of its business , including investment banking. MS YTD mountain Morgan Stanley YTD We thought Morgan Stanley's share price was too low to sell when we held our September Monthly Meeting last week. Based on premarket prices, Morgan Stanley shares were hovering around $101, representing a much better level to take some off. One more factor behind our trim is that the S & P Short Range Oscillator remained in overbought territory after Wednesday's close.

“Kamala Harris isn’t talking about the historic nature of this,” Walz, the Democratic running mate, told supporters here at a rally. But the strategies of both sides have overlapping objectives, with Trump working to widen his advantage with White men while making gains among young Black and Latino voters. “They both have their qualities, they both have their flaws,” said Hernandez, a North Carolina voter who is torn between Trump and Harris. But the Trump campaign is also targeting many of the same voters, particularly young men whose decision whether to vote – and for whom – could be a turning point in the election. Women make up a slim majority of the electorate, but the degree to which Trump can hold onto male voters could determine the outcome of the November election.

Commuters cycles past the Bank of England (BOE), left, in the City of London, UK, on Monday, Sept. 16, 2024. The central bank's Monetary Policy Committee's interest rate decision is scheduled for release on Sept. 19. LONDON — The Bank of England on Thursday said it would hold interest rates steady following its initial cut in August, even after the U.S. Federal Reserve opted for a jumbo rate cut the day before. The Monetary Policy Committee voted by 8 to 1 to hold, with the dissenting member voting for a 0.25 percentage point cut. Many strategists had expected a smaller 25 basis point cut at the September meeting, despite market pricing through this week pointing to more than 50% probability of the more aggressive option.

Corporate leaders can't "bulls---" their employees about the impact of artificial intelligence on the workforce and the ways in which the technology will affect jobs more broadly, according to one tech billionaire. "If I could give any advice, it's that everybody should be a student of AI and tech and not be afraid of it." Even though it's a given AI will impact the workforce, "none of us have it all completely figured out," he said. Last week, UniCredit announced it had taken a 9% stake in Commerzbank, confirming that half of this shareholding was acquired from the government. Commerzbank shares jumped 20% on the day UniCredit's stake was announced. A cross-border styled merger between UniCredit and Commerzbank would be more preferential than a domestic merger between Deutsche Bank and Commerzbank, according to Reint Gropp, president of the Hall Institute for Economic Research. "The German banking structure is long overdue for a consolidation process. The German bank also has less excess capital than UniCredit and therefore "cannot really afford" a takeover, Alloatti said.

The second sign was that Nasrallah’s address – his first since two waves of attacks detonated thousands of Hezbollah wireless devices earlier this week – was very possibly pre-recorded. The leader of the powerful militant group has not delivered a speech in person since the start of Lebanon’s last all-out war with Israel in 2006. In his speech last month, for example, Nasrallah referenced two sonic booms caused by Israeli jets that had broken the sound barrier over Beirut. The roar reverberated throughout the city yet the Beirut-based militant leader neither flinched nor referenced the incident during his speech. Israel’s fighter jets seemed intent to underscore the gains of Tuesday and Wednesday’s attacks on Hezbollah’s wireless devices: the group had been driven deeper underground.

AP —A Philadelphia teenager who authorities say wanted to travel overseas and make bombs for terrorist organizations will be tried as an adult. Prosecutors say Abdul-Rahman conducted at least 12 tests on homemade bombs near his family’s home before he was arrested and was close to being able to detonate devices with a blast radius of several hundred yards. Law enforcement began investigating Abdul-Rahman after they received electronic communications between him and terrorist groups in Syria, prosecutors said. The communications indicated that Abdul-Rahman wanted to become a bombmaker for these groups, identified as Katibat al Tawhid wal Jihad (KTJ) and Hay’at Tahrir al Sham (HTS). As the investigation into Abdul-Rahman continued, authorities learned he was buying military and tactical gear as well as materials that could be used in homemade bombs, prosecutors said.

But after Wednesday's big 50 basis point cut, Lee says he sees uncertainty looming ahead of the election. AdvertisementProminent stock market bull Tom Lee has long called for a big rally after the Federal Reserve cuts interest rates. But after a big 50 basis point cut on Wednesday, Lee says he's feeling cautious ahead of the November election. That rally would happen regardless of a 25 or 50 basis point cut, he said, if the Fed suggested future cuts are likely. With election-related volatility ahead, Lee recommends investing in cyclical stocks in areas like industrials, financials, and small caps.
