London CNN —At Frieze London this year, three large artworks by the artist Nengi Omuku were hung away from the walls so viewers could walk around them. The other presented strips of sanyan, a thick traditional Nigerian fabric that Omuku uses to replace the usual canvas fabric painters often use as their base. “The fact I’m painting on a vintage surface gives soul to my work,” Omuku said over Zoom two days before the fair opens. Omuku's work is painted directly onto strips of sanyan, a thick traditional Nigerian fabric. “I’d never seen a pre-colonial Nigerian textile before, and it looked quite similar to linen.”The artist has exhibited in Paris, New York, Bangkok and London.

NEW YORK — Anthony Volpe’s jersey was caked in dirt as he fielded grounders at shortstop before the ninth inning of Game 4 of the World Series. The New York Yankees were on the brink of a victory that would keep their season alive. He launched a go-ahead grand slam in the third inning, giving the Yankees a 5-2 lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers. “Definitely number one.”Yankee Stadium hadn’t erupted like it did Tuesday in 15 years, not since Game 6 of the 2009 World Series. Globally: The International Association for Suicide Prevention and Befrienders Worldwide have contact information for crisis centers around the world. Garcia believes Character.AI is responsible for the death of her 14-year-old son, Sewell Setzer III, who died by suicide in February, according to a lawsuit she filed against the company last week. When Garcia first heard he was interacting with an AI chatbot, she said she thought it was something like a video game. However, within months of starting to use the platform, Setzer became “noticeably withdrawn, spent more and more time alone in his bedroom, and began suffering from low self-esteem. “There were no suicide pop-up boxes that said, ‘If you need help, please call the suicide crisis hotline.’ None of that,” she said.

And it’s particularly notable after the Republican party’s high-profile failure to repeal key parts of the health care law during Trump’s first term in office. “Health care reform is going to be a big part of the agenda,” Johnson said at the event. And he said it wouldn’t just be health care getting a massive “free market” overhaul. “We know they’ll do it because I’m convinced that if Roe v. Wade can fall, then anything can fall.”The once-contentious health care law has not been a major theme of the 2024 campaign. Taking a different tact than his previous campaigns, Trump himself has stressed to voters that he wouldn’t eliminate the health care law.

Ottawa, Ontario AP —A Canadian official alleged Tuesday that Indian Home Minister Amit Shah ordered a campaign of violence, intimidation and intelligence-gathering targeting Sikh separatists inside Canada. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said a year ago that Canada had credible evidence agents of the Indian government were involved in the murder of Canadian Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia in June 2023. Indian government officials have repeatedly denied Canada has provided evidence and have called the allegations absurd. Nathalie Drouin, Trudeau’s national security adviser, told the committee Tuesday that Canada has evidence the Indian government first gathered information on Indian nationals and Canadian citizens in Canada through diplomatic channels and proxies. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said it took the extraordinary step of talking publicly about ongoing investigations because of threats to public safety.

CNN —People who only exercise on weekends have a similar risk of developing mild dementia to those who work out more frequently, a new study has found. A team of academics from Latin America and Europe set out to determine whether the frequency of exercise affects the risk of developing mild dementia. The finding led the team to conclude that 13% of cases of mild dementia could be avoided if all middle-aged people exercised at least once or twice a week. When compared with the group that did not exercise, the weekend warriors were 13% less likely to develop mild dementia, and those in the regular and combined groups were 12% less likely. I feel quite strongly that the weekend warriors around the world should be told that what they are doing is fine.”He added: “The weekend warrior research is starting to add up now.

Washington CNN —Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday distanced herself from President Joe Biden’s comments that seemingly referred to Donald Trump’s supporters as “garbage,” setting off a political firestorm a week before Election Day. “The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters,” Biden said, pausing for a moment before continuing. Harris’ campaign was quick to try to publicly defend or explain those remarks publicly. As CNN has reported, there had been growing wariness among Harris campaign aides about Biden’s propensity for gaffes, at a moment when the campaign does not want to take any unnecessary political risks. Tuesday night’s “garbage” comments from Biden only ended up confirming those existing concerns for many Democrats.

Ahead of Donald Trump’s Tuesday appearance in the heavily Latino city of Allentown, Pennsylvania, a comedian’s racist joke about Puerto Ricans at the former president’s Madison Square Garden rally drew fresh blowback. “However, the other five million who live in the United States, whom they also labeled as trash, can vote.”One of those five million Puerto Rican voters is Allentown resident Efraín Dávila. Hinchcliffe made his racist jokes in an election cycle in which Republicans have said they are messaging to Latinos as Americans. But the comedian at his rally attacked Puerto Ricans, who are American citizens at birth, not immigrants, said Mike Madrid, a Republican consultant who opposes Trump. Madrid added that it is more difficult to waive off the comedian’s racist jokes, because they did not come from Trump.

Despite a difficult quarter, McDonald’s looks resilient in the face of various pressures, analysts say — something the company shares with U.S. consumers overall. “The spotlight is always on McDonald’s because it’s so big” and something of a “bellwether,” she said. That spurred former President Donald Trump to sling fries this month at a Philadelphia-area McDonald’s in a photo op. But state officials resisted his pressure, judges tossed out his team’s lawsuits, and Pence defied Trump and carried out his constitutional duty to affirm the result of the vote. If Trump sought to challenge the election results, he would have two potential paths to try to overturn the results, and both routes are “long shots,” said Hasen, director of the Safeguarding Democracy Project at UCLA Law School. Given the heightened security risk, some state officials have made plans to scrap public, high-profile ceremonies to certify election results in state capitols.
