How to Pay Off Your Mortgage Early

Homeowners typically make their normal monthly mortgage payments and expect to pay off their homes over 30 years. One of the best mortgage lenders for refinancing is Rocket Mortgage due to its flexible loan repayment terms, fast approval process and lower credit score requirements. There are three primary methods for making extra payments – pay extra each month, make a lump sum payment or switch to bi-weekly payments. The first two methods require you to pay extra manually, but this one locks you into a quicker mortgage payoff. These strategies help borrowers pay off their homes faster and reduce the interest they'll pay.

Finally! Savings Rates Could Soon Beat Inflation
  + stars: | 2023-02-23 | by ( ) www.wsj.com   time to read: +6 min
Why savings rates could rise in 2023Fortunately, many experts predict the situation will reverse, with inflation on a downward trend even as the Fed continues nudging up interest rates. Since the most generous banks have increased their rates in tandem with the Fed, they would likely increase savings rates as well. Bottenfield doesn’t see savings account interest rates surpassing the rate of inflation before 2024. “The difference between an online savings account and the average brick and mortar account is huge right now,” says Tumin. If you think interest rates will fall, you can lock in mid-4% rates long-term with a five-year CD.
T-bill yields have been low since the Great Recession, with the exception of 2018. Currently, shorter-term Treasury yields are higher than longer-term yields, which is known as an inverted yield curve. How interest rates affect bond valuesAnother factor to consider is the current economic environment, including future moves at the Fed. Although it's expressed in years, it's different from the bond's maturity since it factors in the coupon, time to maturity and yield paid through the term. "It's always the Fed; the Fed controls short-term interest rates," said David Enna, founder of Tipswatch.com, a website that tracks Treasury inflation-protected securities and other assets.

High-yield savings accounts have become an even better place to park cash you might need in the near future, while still growing your money. For a $10,000 investment, that works out to about $400 in annual interest, compared with just $55 a year ago. Traditional savings accounts currently have an average APY of 0.23% — about 1,600% less than the rates offered by high-yield accounts. Despite the higher interest rates, only about 20% of Americans have a high-yield savings account, according to a 2020 YouGov survey commissioned by Red Ventures. For more on how to sign up for a high-yield savings account, CNBC Select has you covered.
Banks offer a grace period once a CD term ends, when you can decide to renew the term or withdraw money. Before automatically renewing a CD, always review the current CD rates available at your bank. What happens when your CD reaches maturityOnce your CD has reached maturity, you'll have the flexibility to make changes to your account. Alternatives to CDsIf you've decided you'll need access to your money relatively soon, a high-yield savings account or money market account are alternative savings account options. If you receive a CD maturity notice and decide not to act, usually your CD will automatically renew for another term.

The past four years, I've had the opportunity to talk to college students about personal finance. In the US, there's a lack of financial literacy, with just 8 states guaranteeing personal finance courses for high schoolers. It's an 80-minute personal finance presentation that starts with the very basics: saving and budgeting. It could be because of a lack of personal finance education. Many digital advisors don't require an account minimum, meaning anyone can start investing with just $1.
