WASHINGTON, Feb 8 (Reuters) - Fresh off a State of the Union speech to Congress that challenged opposition Republicans to help unite the country, President Joe Biden heads to two U.S. states crucial to his expected 2024 re-election bid. Biden travels first on Wednesday to DeForest in Wisconsin, a state that flipped from supporting Republican former President Donald Trump in 2016 to favoring Biden in 2020. There, Biden is expected to laud the economic progress he touted in his State of the Union speech on the strength of the U.S. labor market. The old-age and healthcare programs are popular among voters, especially in a state with one of the largest elderly populations. Tuesday's speech was widely considered among officials as a test run of the message he will use in his campaign.
WASHINGTON—The discovery of classified documents at President Biden ’s Wilmington home from his time as a senator has brought fresh attention to the way Congress itself handles such material and the question of how those documents made their way off of Capitol Hill. House and Senate committees and two special counsels are examining the issue of classified documents possessed by Mr. Biden, former President Donald Trump and former Vice President Mike Pence at their homes or offices, and lawmakers have suggested the possibility of reforming the way executive branch officials handle sensitive documents on their way out the door.
The United States operates a military base and nuclear missile silos in Montana, a state bordering Idaho. Military officials developed a plan to shoot down the balloon on Wednesday as it flew over Montana. BALLOON MANEUVERSThe U.S. government has declined to say which sites the Chinese balloon surveyed. On Friday, the Pentagon said it expected the balloon to keep flying over the United States for several more days. "That will make it fairly easy, actually," a military official said of the recovery operation in the Atlantic.
The US military shot down a suspected Chines spy balloon on Saturday, February 4, 2023. A meteorologist captured a video of jets circling the balloon before shooting it down. Senior defense officials said that an F-22 jet from Langley Air Force Base in Virginia shot the balloon with a single shot, according to Fox News. In another video posted to Twitter, a person yells "they got it, there it goes." Another 45-second clip posted to Twitter shows the approach to the balloon before it's shot down.
The US has taken down a suspected Chinese spy balloon over the Atlantic, according to The AP. The balloon earlier on Saturday had been detected over South Carolina near the Atlantic Ocean. China's Foreign Ministry on Friday stated that the aircraft "strayed into the United States due to force majeure." "China regrets that the airship strayed into the United States due to force majeure.
Photo: McDonald’sThe ruling by Vice Chancellor Laster focuses on the claims against Mr. Fairhurst specifically. At the time of his termination, Mr. Fairhurst had been the subject of multiple reports of sexual harassment during his tenure, according to the Delaware ruling. Emerging oversight liabilityThe legal doctrine driving the McDonald’s shareholder lawsuit extends back to a 1996 Delaware Court of Chancery decision. The ultimate impact of Judge Laster’s ruling vis-à-vis McDonald’s shareholders is as of yet unclear. If the judge approves the McDonald’s directors’ motion to dismiss, the claims against Mr. Fairhurst would be moot.

Hunter Biden's lawyers sent letters singling out Trump allies and Fox News host Tucker Carlson. Among the recipients are the Justice Department and Deleware attorney general, WaPo reported. "This marks a new approach by Hunter Biden and his team," a person familiar with Biden's strategy told The Post. Also targeted by Biden's lawyers is Fox News and its host Tucker Carlson. The Justice Department and Delaware attorney general's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The morning search by FBI agents appeared to represent an expansion of the probe into Biden's handling of classified documents. The White House counsel's office did not have representatives present at the search, White House spokesperson Ian Sams told reporters. Classified documents have also been found in the home of Trump's former vice president, Mike Pence, giving some political cover to Biden. Trump resisted efforts to return materials in his possession, prompting a FBI search of his Florida home and resort last year. It is unlawful to knowingly or willfully remove or retain classified material, although no current or former president or vice president has been charged with wrongdoing.
REUTERS/Evelyn HocksteinWASHINGTON, Feb 1 (Reuters) - The U.S. Justice Department is conducting a planned search of Joe Biden's Delaware beach house with the president's cooperation, his lawyer said on Wednesday. "We agreed to cooperate," Biden's personal lawyer, Bob Bauer, said in a statement, saying more information would be released after the search was concluded. Classified documents have also been found in the homes of former Republican President Donald Trump and his former vice president, Mike Pence. Biden has vowed to cooperate with the searches and Pence had said he takes responsibility for the found documents. It is unlawful to knowingly or willfully remove or retain classified material, although no current or former president or vice president has been charged with wrongdoing.

U.S. Secret Service agents are seen in front of Joe Biden's Rehoboth Beach, Del., home on Jan. 12, 2021. The FBI is conducting a planned search of President Joe Biden's Rehoboth Beach, Delaware home as part of its investigation into the potential mishandling of classified documents. The planned, consensual visit is the first publicly known time that the FBI conducted a search of the Rehoboth residence. The FBI searched the think tank office in mid-November after Biden's personal lawyers first found classified records there on Nov. 2. The FBI searched Biden's Wilmington home on Jan. 20.
REUTERS/Evelyn HocksteinWASHINGTON, Feb 1 (Reuters) - The U.S. Justice Department was searching President Joe Biden's second home, a beach house in Rehoboth, Delaware, on Wednesday as part of its investigation into improper storage of classified materials from his time as vice president. The search by FBI agents appears to represent an expansion of the probe into Biden's handling of classified documents. It has stripped him and fellow Democrats of a weapon against former President Donald Trump, who also had classified documents found at his home. Classified documents have also been found in the home of Trump's former vice president, Mike Pence, giving some political cover to Biden. Almost 20 years ago, the 64-year-old Westfield, New Jersey, resident took out a term life insurance policy, to help cover his family in case the worst happened. Remember there are different types of life insurance on the market, and those with "permanent" versions do not face this conundrum. PURCHASE A NEW TERM POLICYIf your first term policy is winding up, and you are still in excellent health, shop around for a new term policy. "Can you convert the term life policy to a permanent policy?" "If you can obtain long-term care benefits as a rider through another life policy, that may the way to go."
Jan 30 (Reuters) - A U.S. appeals court on Monday shot down Johnson & Johnson's (JNJ.N) attempt to offload tens of thousands of lawsuits over its talc products into bankruptcy court. The appeals court ruling revives those lawsuits. Monday's decision by the U.S. 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia dismissed the bankruptcy filed by the J&J subsidiary in 2021. The appeals court decision could force companies considering the strategy to more carefully consider its risks, two legal experts said. The Texas two-step has garnered criticism from Democratic lawmakers in Washington, and inspired proposed legislation that would severely restrict the practice.

FBI agents searched the office President Joe Biden used after his vice presidency in Washington, D.C., in mid-November after his lawyers first discovered classified documents there earlier that month, two senior law enforcement officials told NBC News. Biden's personal lawyers said Justice Department investigators found more than half a dozen additional documents, some marked classified, in the search. The documents discovered range from his Senate tenure to his time as vice president under former President Barack Obama. Former President Donald Trump is also facing a special counsel investigation for failing to turn over classified documents. Last week, it was also reported that Trump's vice president, Mike Pence, also had classified documents in his home in Indiana.
Biden noted that 2,200 trains ride through it daily, making it the busiest tunnel in the United States. "Folks talk about how badly the Baltimore tunnel needs an upgrade. Trains that travel through the tunnel now at 30 miles per hour will travel at 110 mph when renovations are through, Biden said. In Washington, Biden faces a colder reality as Republicans, now in control of the House of Representatives, threaten to block his economic agenda, bog down his programs in investigations and prevent the raising of the debt ceiling to force spending cuts. Biden plans a similar event on Tuesday in New York related to that city's Hudson Tunnel project.
In Washington, Biden faces a colder reality as Republicans, now in control of the House of Representatives, threaten to block his economic agenda, bog down his programs in investigations and prevent the raising of the debt ceiling to force spending cuts. Monday's event takes Biden, a Democrat who touts his alliance with labor unions, to liberal Baltimore at an event expected to be attended by the state's governor and two senators, all Democrats. He is expected to announce an agreement between Amtrak and a labor group on the tunnel project, according to a White House official. Biden plans a similar event on Tuesday in New York related to that city's Hudson Tunnel project. On Friday, he will highlight the infrastructure bill's provisions replacing toxic lead pipes at an event in Philadelphia.
Prior to Monday's agreement, judicial appointments were limited to the two major parties. He argued the major party requirement violated his right to free association under the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The bare majority requirement still applies, but now that majority could consist of independents. Governor John Carney, a Democrat, had argued that the state's courts are trusted by business leaders because of the balance guaranteed by the "bare majority" rule. “If it’s a room of five people, Anita and Bob are two of them,” said a former White House aide, who asked to remain anonymous because the person was not authorized to speak on the record about White House business. The White House declined to comment for this piece. The group of White House aides that were looped in on the discovery immediately was slightly larger and included Dunn, this person said. “Whatever strategy they had has not served him well — the lack of transparency from November to January,” said a second former White House official. Bauer, who didn’t join the administration, has acted as a sounding board for White House lawyers on potential hires.
Tom Verlaine, who redefined rock guitar in the punk era of the 1970s with his band Television, died Saturday in Manhattan. Tom Verlaine’s soloing (and Richard Lloyd‘s as well, of course) showed me you could be a virtuoso and dangerous at the same time, more Coltrane or Ornette than the arena rockers of the day. In 2007, Lloyd was replaced in the touring unit by Jimmy Ripp, who had for many years supported Verlaine on his solo albums and tours. Only after his twin brother John played the Rolling Stones’ “19th Nervous Breakdown” and other contemporary rock records for him did Miller rethink his preferred instrument. Though he always boasted a devoted cult fan base, Verlaine never succeeded in attaining a commercial foothold on the charts; his 1981 sophomore solo album “Dreamtime,” his lone entry, peaked at No.
Mike Pence on Friday said he took "full responsibility" for classified documents found at his home. Classified files were also discovered in the ex-DC office and Wilmington home of President Biden. CNN first reported on Tuesday that an attorney for Pence discovered roughly a dozen classified files at the former vice president's residence in Carmel, Indiana. On Friday, Pence said a "small number of documents marked classified or sensitive interspersed in my personal papers" were found, and that he and his attorney "immediately" secured the files. "And while I was not aware that those classified documents were in our personal residence, let me be clear: Those classified documents should not have been in my personal residence.
[1/2] Tesla vehicles are shown at a Tesla service center in San Diego, California, U.S., January 13, 2023. Tesla board Chair Robyn Denholm is a defendant in the lawsuit alongside Musk, Tesla and other directors. At the time of the tweets, Denholm led Tesla's audit committee, which oversees company controls meant to ensure compliance with securities law. Musk told the jury earlier this week he could have financed the potential deal from existing Tesla investors as well as a Saudi wealth fund. The "funding secured" tweet came as a surprise to him, as Goldman, which had long worked with Tesla, was not involved in the deal.
On other pages, they said he memorialized in writing some of his experiences or thoughts as vice president at the time. The number of notebooks Biden kept is large, according to the person familiar with the investigation, but they did not know the precise number. Trump and Biden’s possession of classified documents is the subject of separate special counsel investigations. Attorney General Merrick Garland has so far not named a special counsel to investigate Pence’s handling of classified documents. On Friday, Pence apologized for having classified documents in his possession and said he takes full responsibility for it.
WASHINGTON — A Democratic push to discredit the congressional Republicans who are launching a slew of investigations into President Joe Biden may be fracturing because of an unexpected obstacle: fellow Democrats. And former Vice President Mike Pence revealed this week that he, too, had discovered classified documents in his Indiana home. On Capitol Hill, House Republicans have opened an oversight inquiry into Biden’s handling of the records. (Both the White House and the Secret Service said they don’t keep such records for his personal residence.) The White House counsel’s office now has a communications arm to quickly respond to Republican allegations of presidential wrongdoing.
