The lawsuit filed on Thursday is the latest development in the high-profile case around Gabby Petito’s death. In doing so, the lawsuit alleges officers disregarded signs of violence they should have been trained to notice. The suit also alleges police officers “coached Gabby to provide answers that the officers used to justify their decision not to enforce Utah law,” which requires action be taken in response to domestic violence incidents. “Our officers acted with kindness, respect, and empathy toward Ms. Petito,” city spokesperson Lisa Adams said in a statement. An independent investigation in January faulted police for making “several unintentional mistakes” including not issuing a domestic violence citation after Petito told police she had hit her fiancé.

Nov 1 (Reuters) - Russian-installed officials in Ukraine's southern Kherson region said on Monday they were extending an evacuation zone from the Dnipro river, repeating claims rejected by Kyiv that Ukraine could be preparing to attack the Kakhovka dam and flood the region. Russia has been evacuating tens of thousands of civilians from the western bank of the Dnipro river in recent weeks, under an advancing Ukrainian counteroffensive. Russian-installed officials are offering civilians one-time payments of 100,000 roubles ($1,628) to leave, and Moscow is providing housing in other regions of Russia, Saldo said. President Vladimir Putin moved to annex the Kherson region last month after staging referendums in four Ukrainian regions that were slammed as sham and illegal by Kyiv and the West. The survey ranked 182 cities based on four key categories of equal weight: affordability, activities, quality of life and health care. When it comes to the best cities to spend your retirement years, the Sunshine state takes nearly half of the top 10 spots, according to WalletHub's 2022 Best and Worst Places to Retire survey. Additionally, if you'll be living on a fixed income in retirement, be sure to plan your expenses and lifestyle accordingly, Wolske says. One of the biggest retirement planning mistakes people make is not properly preparing for additional medical expenses, Wolske says. A 65-year-old couple retiring in 2022 can expect to spend an average of $315,000 in health-care and medical expenses in their retirement, according to Fidelity Investment's August estimate.
During the game, she said, the crowd nearby began chanting “F--- the Mormons.” Over and over. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, BYU’s sponsoring institution, Aubrey wanted the chanting to stop. Latter-day Saints have a fair track record when it comes to cheek-turning. There’s of course a balance to strike in the case of the Oregon chants. And yet, if you can publicly chant “F--- the Mormons” with only minimal social consequences, it’s time for Latter-day Saints to collectively push, as Aubrey sought to do, for greater and more immediate action.
Bond yields jumped this week after another major rate hike from the Federal Reserve, flashing a warning for market distress. The policy-sensitive 2-year Treasury yield on Friday climbed to 4.266%, notching a 15-year high, and the benchmark 10-year Treasury reached 3.829%, the highest in 11 years. The yield curve inversion, occurring when shorter-term government bonds have higher yields than long-term bonds, is one indicator of a possible future recession. Higher bond yields create more competition for funds that may otherwise go into the stock market, Winter said, and with higher Treasury yields used in the calculation to assess stocks, analysts may reduce future expected cash flows. What's more, it may be less attractive for companies to issue bonds for stock buybacks, a way for profitable companies to return cash to shareholders, Winter said.
watch nowThe Inflation Reduction Act signed into law by President Joe Biden in August includes historic investments to combat climate change. It may also open new avenues for fraud by expanding a program that has given federal authorities fits for years. That allowed them to rake in millions of dollars in incentives, even though they were producing very little fuel. Reining in fraudThe EPA says it has continued to beef up its enforcement as it learns more about implementing the program — and as incentives expand under the Inflation Reduction Act. "So, you're just spending money to take advantage of the Inflation Reduction Act."
