PARIS — Issuers of spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds cast doubt over the short-term likelihood of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission approving such a product for the cryptocurrency ether . The regulator has a late-May deadline to conclude its review on an ether ETF. That comes after the SEC in March delayed its original deadline for a decision on the ether ETF application. Enthusiasm has been mounting among the crypto community for an ether ETF, ever since the SEC approved the first spot bitcoin ETFs in January. This complicates matters for an ether ETF.

Investors looking for high-quality income, as well as a bargain, should turn to agency mortgage-backed securities, according to UBS. Agency MBS are debt obligations backed by the government and are issued by agencies such as Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and Ginnie Mae. However, agency MBS lagged their higher-quality counterparts because they are highly correlated to interest rate volatility, she said. As gross domestic product slowly trends lower, the market will become more comfortable with the likelihood of the Fed cutting rates, Falconio said. Banks, which have been investing excess deposits in Treasurys, will be among those turning to agency MBS, Falconio said.

The firm said it has been registered in Ontario as a restricted dealer under the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA), an umbrella organization of Canada's provincial and territorial securities regulators. The crypto exchange said that this authorization means the company now meets the Canadian regulators' strict requirements for crypto assets dealings and can operate legally in the country. The policy changes led Binance, the world's largest crypto exchange by trading volumes, to quit its activity in Canada, saying it was "no longer tenable" to operate there. Rival crypto exchange Kraken said last year that it had filed a pre-registration undertaking (PRU) with the Ontario Securities Commission, effectively starting the process to become a registered dealer in Canada. The company says it is the first international crypto exchange to receive restricted dealer registration in Canada.

Why Goldman Sachs is helping its clients launch ETFs
  + stars: | 2024-04-01 | by ( Josephine Rozzelle | ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +3 min
Investor demand for exchange-traded funds is not slowing down, and firms without ETF offerings may risk losing business, according to one Goldman Sachs expert. "Any number of our clients would tell you, the opportunity cost of not [offering ETF products] is greater," he recently told CNBC's "ETF Edge." To help clients through the process of launching their own ETF products, Goldman Sachs created its ETF Accelerator, a digital platform that helps clients launch, list and manage their own ETF products. The idea was it made it easier to launch an ETF, but it didn't make it easy," Sachs said. It can still take years to build the expertise, headcount and risk management framework necessary to launch an ETF, said Sachs.
