For some budding musicians (and even old pros), the very sight of sheet music can elicit a fight-or-flight response, bringing up painful memories of strict piano teachers and high-pressure recitals. George Collier, a 20-year-old music transcriber, is doing his part to change that. Another clip, titled “She Practiced 40 Hours a Day for This,” captures a virtuosic Mozart piano cadenza by Mitsuko Uchida. While Collier specializes in jazz, he also showcases performances from the classical world, as well as everyday people with impressive talents. A clip titled “When Your Family Is Musically Competent” features a version of “Happy Birthday” that turns into improvised gospel-laden riffing.

After all, his entire personal and professional life had been in Vancouver, Canada, the 33-year-old told Business Insider via email. Last October, after several months of splitting his time between Canada and LA, Martin and his husband secured visas and moved from their Vancouver suburb to West Hollywood. While he's not a fan of LA's rent costs and the US healthcare system, he said the move has had a "life-changing" impact on one thing: his social life. Business Insider asked Martin what the biggest pros and cons have been of his Canada-to-California move, and whether the improvement to his social life has offset the downsides. Their social life is a big reason why.

So, when John and I started dating two years into living together, nobody was entirely surprised. AdvertisementHaving separate bedrooms was what we were used toWe visited one one-bedroom apartment just to check it out and knew immediately it wasn't for us. The apartment is two floors, with both bedrooms, the full bath, and the kitchen and dining area on the top floor, and a half-bath and living room in the basement. So, by having the bed in my room, it made my room also his, in a sense. Besides sleeping in the same bed at night, we treat our separate bedrooms the same way we did as roommates.

Denmark is not a socialist country, but it has strong welfare safety nets, like a free healthcare system that people must pay into. The social aspect of the Danish system doesn't work efficiently anymore, so patients are choosing private hospitals instead. The idea is to discourage people from consuming these products and then relying on the free healthcare system for treatment. A boomer and her husband moved to southwest Florida from Minnesota to start her clothing business. They moved to southern Minnesota, then northern Minnesota to an off-the-grid cabin an hour north of Duluth. They knew northern Minnesota was not conducive to starting a business, so they considered Florida an ideal location. She said she's also adjusting to the fishing scene in Florida, which is mainly saltwater, compared to freshwater fishing in Minnesota. Despite all she's been through, Pelton thinks she'll stay in Florida for the time being — the only other place she's considering is India.

High inflation and Federal Reserve interest rate hikes helped push mortgage rates up to decades-long highs over the last couple of years. If next week's Consumer Price Index data comes in hotter than expected, for example, that could push mortgage rates back up. This means we may need to see a few more months of slowing inflation data before the Fed cuts rates and mortgage rates start trending down. Uncertainty around when the Federal Reserve will start cutting rates has kept mortgage rates elevated in recent weeks. This week, average 30-year mortgage rates ticked up four basis points to 6.94%, according to Freddie Mac. Once inflation gets closer to the Fed's 2% target rate and the central bank starts lowering its benchmark rate, mortgage rates should go down. That's according to a new report from career-site Indeed analyzing educational requirements in US job postings since January 2019. As employers shift from formal educational requirements to skills-first hiring, job seekers might want to think about their skills. Even with a shift away from college degree requirements, there could be assumed credentials and levels of education, per the new report. "There's a lot of sectors where it's really common for jobs to not include any educational requirements whatsoever," Stahle said. Controlling for occupational mix, the percentage of job postings that require a college degree has only fallen by 3.6 percent over that period."

As investors ponder how — and where — to invest in this uncertain climate, CNBC Pro asked market experts where they recommend allocating $100,000. "By investing purely in cash and fixed income, you can already get a decent return," Jia said. And with global central banks cutting rates, fixed income will likely benefit from capital gains as well because of the duration." Within fixed income, Jia likes government bonds from developed countries and investment-grade bonds from "reputable firms," which offer "quality" and "longer-term growth" potential. Investors nearing retirement, for instance, should have a more conservative portfolio mix of 80% in fixed income and 20% in equities, according to Jia.

CNN —A new study finds that the asthma medication Xolair may substantially reduce severe allergic reactions in people who have multiple food allergies and are accidentally exposed to those foods. There is no cure for food allergies, and the only other FDA-approved treatment is Palforzia, an oral immunotherapy for peanut allergies in children between 4 and 17 years old. “But the reality is that most of our patients don’t just have peanut allergy,” Wood added. For people who have multiple severe food allergies and even moderate to severe allergic asthma, Casale says, Xolair might be the best treatment option.
