What would you pay for a streaming service that gave you lots — but not all — of the biggest sports programming on TV? Most crucially, it won't include lots of NFL games, since the package doesn't include CBS, which has the national rights to AFC games on Sundays. Take the NFL out of traditional TV and there's almost nothing left at this point. If you wanted a streaming service that had all of the NFL games on traditional TV, you'd need a service like YouTube TV, which currently costs $73 a month. That's partly because the TV companies that are part of the bundle kind of believe that, and partly because they have a delicate relationship with pay TV distributors like Comcast.

Live sports remain the highest rated TV programming and are the most costly part of the pay TV bundle. Users who sign up for Venu at $42.99 a month will have access to that entry pricing for 12 months, Venu noted Thursday — signaling there could be price increases ahead. It's a promising development for the Disney -owned Marvel Studios, which has struggled to maintain box office momentum in the wake of 2019's historic "Avengers: Endgame." At the same time Marvel Studios was still reeling from pandemic-related production shutdowns and dual Hollywood labor strikes. And that's good news for a studio that has generated more than $30 billion in box office since 2008.

Revvity — The life sciences company advanced 6% after posting a second-quarter earnings beat. Revvity's adjusted earnings of $1.22 per share topped the FactSet estimate of $1.12 per share. The new Marvel movie topped $200 million at the domestic box office, a record opening weekend for an R-rated film. Second-quarter adjusted earnings per share came in at 96 cents, versus the expected consensus estimate of 92 cents, per FactSet. The stock plunged more than 40% in the previous session after Dexcom reported disappointing second-quarter results and offered weak guidance.
