But those failing to tempt their child to eat their broccoli can take solace, as research has found that picky eating is largely down to genes rather than environment. They found that non-identical twin pairs were much less similar when it came to picky eating than identical twin pairs. Picky eating “often causes a lot of stress for the children and their families,” Moritz Herle, a researcher at King’s College London and one of the study’s lead authors, said. The study found that environmental factors can, however, have an impact on a child’s food pickiness when they are a toddler. Abigail Pickard, a researcher in developmental child psychology at Aston University who wasn’t involved in the research, told CNN that picky eating is “quite common” in children.

The unlawful misuse of nitrous oxide products poses serious health hazards, said a Galaxy Gas spokesperson in a statement. “Galaxy Gas products are for responsible culinary use only, and we are deeply concerned about the recent news reports and social media posts of individuals illegally misusing our products,” the company spokesperson added. Packaged foods, soda, chips, hot dogs, chicken nuggets and ice cream all fall under the category of ultraprocessed foods, which can include dozens of synthetic additives such as preservatives, emulsifiers and artificial dyes. For every 10% increase in the amount of a person’s diet made up of ultraprocessed foods, the team found that there was a 17% increased risk for developing type 2 diabetes, the data showed. The scientists also found that reducing the amount of ultraprocessed food you are consuming can lower the risk, according to the study. “Ultra-processed foods are everywhere,” Dicken said via email. “We also know that increased body fat (from excess calories) increases the risk of type 2 diabetes.

While school meal prices vary throughout the country, a survey conducted by the School Nutrition Association, a trade organization, found that lunches typically cost about $2.83 for elementary school students, $3 for middle school students and $3.05 for high school students. The prices mean that the $100 million in transaction fees could have bought another 33 million or so school lunches or over 55 million school breakfasts. “Junk fees on school lunch should not exist. A handful of states have made universal school meals permanent, but most have returned to the pre-pandemic format. “School lunch should always be free, and definitely free of judgment,” Fetterman said at the hearing on Wednesday.

Graham, acting on behalf of the Trump campaign, was working to encourage Pillen to call a special legislative session at which lawmakers could consider changing the state's apportionment of electoral votes, the source said. Nebraska allocates its electoral votes by congressional district. That one electoral vote could prove decisive. CNN —In some corners of society, there appears to be a shift in the way people talk about kids. Every so often, a provocative social media post sets off predictably polarizing discourse about the presence of children in daily life. The implication (joking or otherwise) is that children are a nuisance and adults shouldn’t have to endure them if they don’t want to. The people behind them aren’t part of some organized movement nor are they actually lobbying for the exclusion of children from public spaces. Rather, Berg understands online disdain for kids partly as a performative response to rhetoric from political and religious conservatives.

CNN —Former President Donald Trump said Thursday that “the Jewish people” would be partially to blame if he loses in November, escalating his persistent campaign trail criticism of Jewish voters and insisting that Democrats hold a “curse” over them. But the former president appeared preoccupied with what he described as ingratitude from Jewish voters, whom he said should be supporting him in greater proportions because of his record on Israel. Still, Trump has repeatedly cast his rival as “anti-Israel” and “anti-Jewish.”“You have to defeat Kamala Harris more than any other people on earth,” Trump said, addressing the Jewish voters in the audience. You want to control your politicians, that’s fine,” Trump said at the Republican Jewish Coalition in December 2015. “I’m a negotiator like you folks, we are negotiators.”But Trump’s open frustration with Jewish voters became a more frequent theme in the aftermath of his 2020 election defeat.

House lawmakers in Washington have the signatures they need to force a vote on a bill to eliminate rules that reduce Social Security benefits for certain retirees who also receive pension income. On Thursday morning, Reps. Abigail Spanberger, D-Va., and Garret Graves, R-La., marked the 206 signatures a discharge petition had thus far collected with a press conference outside the Capitol building alongside organizations representing police, firefighters, postal workers, teachers and other government employees often affected by those rules. By Thursday afternoon, the number of signatures had climbed to 218, enough to force a vote on the bill. The bipartisan bill — the Social Security Fairness Act — would repeal rules known as the Windfall Elimination Provision, or WEP, and the Government Pension Offset, or GPO, that currently reduce Social Security benefits for almost 3 million Americans. "This is a situation where you have some of the most important occupations, some of the most important contributors to our community, that are being discriminated against," he said.

Chatterton, 27, recalls one of her first jobs after graduating college, as a marketing operations role at a small tech startup in Chicago, Illinois. Conventional wisdom holds that older women have the most to contend with in regards to ageism, or unfair treatment based on a person's age. However, new research from LeanIn and McKinsey & Co. suggests that younger women are more susceptible to ageism in the workplace than their older colleagues. Ageism impacts older employees at fairly similar rates for women and men. Yet women in their 20s and 30s report much higher instances of ageism than older women and their young, male colleagues.
