CNN —A “crazy amount of emotions” ran through TJ Oshie’s mind as he watched footage of what would be American hockey player Adam Johnson’s final moments on the ice. The English Ice Hockey Association has announced that all players must wear neck guards from the start of next year, and the Pittsburgh Penguins, Johnson’s former NHL team, are mandating neck guards for their minor league players, coach Mike Sullivan has said. In the NHL, neck guards – let alone neck coverings of any kind – are not a common sight. “I think there is a machismo within ice hockey where you’re seen as being something less if you choose to wear more protective equipment,” ice hockey broadcaster Seth Bennett tells CNN Sport. Warroad’s neck guards are fitted with Kevlar and steel components, ensuring that they have enough stiffness to stay upright and offer effective coverage around the neck.

“Barbie World” by Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice will compete for best rap song. Tracks from the soundtrack also hog up four of the five available slots in best song written for visual media. Peso Pluma’s 2023 album, “Génesis,” is just tucked among the nominees for música mexicana. But música urbana — encompassing reggaeton, Latin hip-hop, dembow, Latin trap and more — is a crowded, competitive, hugely popular format. His 2023 album, “Seven Psalms,” plays as a thoughtful, complex, tuneful farewell, anticipating his death.

watch nowToo often, people are encouraged to be fearless, according to personal finance expert Farnoosh Torabi, but fear is a valuable tool, particularly when it comes to building wealth. The following two steps can help you harness fear to build wealth. Women are also more likely to live paycheck to paycheck and consider themselves financially fragile, a separate report by Varo Bank found. Torabi, who said she's wrestled with her own relationship with fear as a young adult, advises playing out the worst-case scenario. "If you are afraid of a recession, better to think about what might happen if you lost your job," she said.

Will Ramsay, founder and CEO of the Affordable Art Fair, which puts on exhibits worldwide, said collecting art is easier than people might think. However, contemporary art is likely to increase in value over the long term, Diament said. There's also a satisfaction in buying something from a living artist, Diament said. "Some people like color, other people like to focus on drawings without color … you have people who collect just one artist," Taylor said. Provenance — which refers to the history and ownership of a piece — is often an important consideration when buying art.

CNN —Of all 14,669 varieties of plants and animals found in Europe that were registered on the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List of Threatened Species by the end of 2020, one-fifth of them face the risk of extinction, a new analysis has found. The thousands of species found in Europe that appear on the Red List account for nearly 10% of the continent’s total biodiversity, according to the paper. IPBES originally estimated that 1 million plant and animal species across the world were at risk of extinction, including about half a million insect varieties, based on inferences from Red List data. The data on invertebrates provided by the new analysis suggests the number of species threatened with extinction globally is actually closer to 2 million, Hochkirch said. Hochkirch said he hopes the analysis will spur further conservation action for insects and other threatened species in Europe.

But Turing’s theory didn’t explain how the patterns would remain so defined in a species such as the ornate boxfish. The team of engineers at the University of Colorado Boulder explored how a mechanism called diffusiophoresis might create sharp patterns in a new study published Wednesday in the journal of Science Advances. … It is at least one possible way to sharpen regions of gene expression,” said Krause, who was not involved in the study. “Cells are extremely sticky and are very unlikely to be moved by diffusiophoresis,” said Green, who was not involved in the study, in an email. If you have all or most of your money in a single investment account, you're missing opportunities to build wealth. If you're serious about building wealth, there are seven types of accounts you need to have to make it happen. If you're making estimated quarterly tax payments, you'll need to accumulate funds in your tax savings account as you earn them. Note that a "tax savings account" is not a different banking product — it's just a designated use for a savings account, like an emergency fund would be. (Like the tax savings account, this isn't a different product your bank offers — it's a specific use for an account like a high-yield savings account.)

During a basketball practice in July, Bronny suffered a cardiac arrest and was hospitalized following the incident. Bronny’s return to the court is highly anticipated, but it has been made clear that his wellbeing is the priority. “Bronny was playing extremely well before the issue,” USC head coach Andy Enfield told basketball analyst Jeff Goodman in August. UBS posts large loss on costs of Credit Suisse takeover

London CNN —UBS made a hefty loss in the first full quarter since it closed a deal to rescue its stricken rival Credit Suisse, even as the bank attracted billions of dollars in new deposits from customers. UBS (UBS) saw $22 billion of net new money flow into its global wealth management business, as it gained new clients and won back assets from those who had pulled funds immediately after the takeover. That figure includes flows into Credit Suisse’s wealth management unit, which turned positive for the first time in 18 months. Across the group as a whole, UBS attracted net new deposits of $33 billion, with two-thirds of that coming from legacy Credit Suisse clients. CEO Sergio Ermotti was brought back to helm UBS through its takeover of Credit Suisse within days of the Swiss government-orchestrated deal being announced.

A rise in American Jewish gun ownership would come as a noticeable shift for a group that is historically liberal and a majority of which are registered Democrats. A 2018 American Jewish Committee poll showed 70% of Jewish respondents thought it was more important to control gun ownership than to protect Americans’ rights to own guns. The US government does not keep official statistics on gun ownership, including demographic information. Research from industry groups like the National Shooting Sports Foundation break down gun ownership by race and gender but not by religious affiliation. The spike in violence and hateful rhetoric has evoked fears within the Jewish community of another Holocaust, according to Daniel.

Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar is the Biden administration’s top lawyer at the court, defending the policies that are the source of much of Alito’s consternation. “I think our best example historically is the Customs Service,” Prelogar responded. New York CNN —Some customers still haven’t received their direct deposit paychecks following a “human error” last week deep in the plumbing of America’s banking system. The deposit delays are linked to a problem that emerged on Friday with the Automated Clearing House (ACH) payments system, causing headaches for consumers and employers. An industry source confirmed to CNN on Monday that it’s likely some customers haven’t received their deposits yet. Clearing house says it was a ‘manual error’Asked for comment, multiple banks referred inquiries to The Clearing House, which is owned by the largest commercial banks including Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, CitiBank and Wells Fargo. The Clearing House did not provide an updated comment on Monday or any timetable for when the problem will be fully resolved.

Lewiston, Maine CNN —The signs were there: hearing voices, expressing paranoid thoughts and making threats so violent, extra patrols were sent to guard a military installation. CNN —Two articles published this week give a stark assessment of Ukraine’s prospects in its war with Russia. One – by the commander in chief of the Ukrainian military – admits the battlefield has reached a stalemate and a long attritional war benefiting Moscow beckons. The other portrays Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as exhausted by the constant effort to cajole and persuade allies to keep the faith. Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny during an event dedicated to Ukraine's Independence Day on August 24, 2023 in Kyiv, Ukraine. Multiple pro-Palestinian billboards were put up in the North African country of Tunisia before Halloween, despite online posts sharing an image that miscaptions one of these billboards as in Chicago, Illinois amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. Various social media users have shared these displays naming the location as Tunisia, including one on Oct. 26 that shows the same billboard as in the miscaptioned social media posts. The billboard, camera angle, streetlamp and buildings in the background match the image shared on social media. Humzah Khan, a Fulbright fellow in Tunisia, shared an image of the billboard on X with the caption, “several billboards like this in Tunis. A pro-Palestinian Halloween billboard seen on social media comes from Tunisia, not the city of Chicago in the U.S.
