Biden became the first Democrat to win Georgia since 1992, when he defeated Trump by less than 12,000 votes. A Washington Post/ABC News/Ipsos poll released this week found 47% of Black voters said Biden should continue his campaign, compared to 49% who said he should cede the nomination to someone else. A recent Pew Research Center survey found that among Biden supporters, 58% of Black supporters said both Biden and Trump ought to be replaced, compared with 84% of Asian supporters, 74% of White supporters and 67% of Hispanic supporters. Support among Black voters has long been the make or break point for Democratic politicians. In 2008, Black voters helped Barack Obama win the Democratic nomination and their high voter turnout helped him carry states like Ohio and North Carolina.

Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi have spoken privately about Joe Biden and the future of his 2024 campaign. Both the former president and ex-speaker expressed concerns about how much harder they think it’s become for the president to beat Donald Trump. Democrats are desperate for the dispiriting infighting to end so they can get back to trying to beat the former president. Pelosi has made clear that she does not see Biden’s decision to stay in the race as final. But Obama’s deepening skepticism about his friend’s ability to win reelection is one of the worst kept secrets in Washington.

CNN —Two co-hosts of the “Pod Save America” podcast on Friday fired back at Biden campaign staffers who have reportedly dismissed their calls for the president to consider stepping down from the Democratic ticket. “The incompetence of spending your time fighting ‘Pod Save America,’ David Axelrod, George Clooney, and the most popular figure in the Democratic Party at a time when you were struggling with Black voters is f**king insane,” Pfeiffer said, referring to Obama. Go f**king just beat Donald Trump or … help your candidate be on message,” he said. Last week, Sabato's Crystal Ball moved Michigan from "Lean Democratic" to "Toss Up" and Minnesota from "Likely Democratic" to "Lean Democratic." If current trends continue, Mr. Trump could rack up one of the most decisive presidential victories since 2008. The Biden campaign hoped to change this political dynamic by calling for a historic early debate in June. Of all the battleground states, Mr. Biden had been performing best in Wisconsin. However, in two polls released this week, Mr. Trump has pulled ahead of Mr. Biden. Republicans clearly understand that these three battleground states are Mr. Biden’s only remaining path to 270 electoral votes.

CNN —For weeks, the White House press corps has been boiling – and not from the Washington, DC, heat. Some feel the White House misled the press before President Joe Biden’s stumbling performance at last month’s CNN presidential debate. “I think this is a credibility crisis writ large for the White House, and certainly as a spokesperson for the White House, this is a credibility crisis for her,” one White House reporter told CNN, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss the situation. “We are in the midst of a full-blown feeding frenzy,” former CNN White House correspondent and Washington bureau chief Frank Sesno said. Sesno and former White House correspondents and officials told CNN that questions surrounding Biden’s age and performance, along with how the White House is handling the issue, are legitimate and warrant scrutiny.

It included a conversation featuring Jimmy Kimmel, President Biden and former President Barack Obama. Mr. Obama seemed to treat him more like an elderly man than an active candidate.

Donors often operate behind the scenes and, according to sources, have grown increasingly anxious about Biden’s candidacy following his halting debate performance last month. CNN reached out to the Biden campaign for comment. In the immediate wake of Biden’s debate performance, organizers paused conversations on planning the fundraiser until after the July 4 holiday to allow the dust to settle. A spokesperson for the Biden campaign told CNN the event was not affiliated with their official fundraising schedule. Donors elsewhere in the country have told CNN their events are on hold until Biden’s path is clearer.

He was the favorite of the Democratic Party elite. As he faces perhaps the most perilous moment of his political career, Mr. Biden has switched from defense to offense, taking a page out of his predecessor’s playbook to try to quash an internal uprising over his age and capacity. Rather than just try to show that he is up to the job, Mr. Biden has opted to push back against those who say he is not. “He has to show he’s a fighter; that’s critical,” said Cornell Belcher, a Democratic pollster who worked on Barack Obama’s presidential campaigns. “They see him as weak, not strong, which is connected to being too old,” Mr. Belcher said, referring to voters.
