Here's why: The conversion from three or four cuts to two to one to no cuts won't happen overnight. It won't be a headlong rush out of the stock market. As long as enough people think rate cuts are going to occur, there won't be torrent of money going to the sidelines. What else could influence our thinking for 2024 besides this rate-cut dilemma? The world's richest person has faced problems at Tesla, SpaceX and X, ranging from a tanking Tesla valuation to an X advertiser exodus. Tesla's stock slide has erased about $188 billion from its valuation this year, according to Business Insider's calculations. The stock closed at just under $192, leaving it worth just over $600 billion at the close of trading Friday. Before you start feeling too sorry for Musk, though, he's still worth $208 billion. The US economy will see a surge in growth as more people start to take GLP-1 weight loss drugs. "The main reason we see economic upside from healthcare innovation is that poor health imposes significant economic costs," Goldman Sachs said. The more people that take GLP-1 weight loss drugs, the faster the US economy will grow, according to estimates from Goldman Sachs. The bank said in a note on Thursday that US GDP would grow by an extra 1% if 60 million Americans took GLP-1 drugs by 2028. There are several channels through which poor health weighs on economic activity that could diminish if health outcomes improve," Hatzius said.

For example, in the mid-1960s the concentration of the top 10 was over 40% of the S&P 500. Investors who own the S&P 500 don't have to pick those winners; they just go along for the ride. Second, U.S. stocks are global market leaders, and when a small group becomes market leaders it almost always means the U.S. stock market outperforms the world. The U.S. stock market, which was roughly 40% of the global market capitalization a short while ago, is now roughly 50% of global market capitalization.

Their flagship Marsico Focus Fund (MFOCX) has climbed 16% so far in 2024, through Thursday, outperforming both the S & P 500 and technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite . Between 60% and 75% of the portfolio is in "core" growth companies, or those that are likely to see sustained and predictable earnings growth. The balance is in companies undergoing large transformations that can catalyze earnings growth once a restructuring is complete. "When money was very cheap and interest rates were extremely low, it was easy to buy an index fund," Marsico said. "And that's why there's greater differentiation with stock pickers than just buying a general basket of market companies."

Nvidia has been awarded the flagship status of companies leading the artificial intelligence revolution, and all eyes turn to fourth-quarter earnings after the bell Wednesday. The expectations are massive compared to the same quarter last year — and even compared to last quarter's earnings. The massive gains in price reflect this historic growth and the question is will the chart continue its rally following earnings? On Jan. 9 , I wrote about NVDA breaking through the 2023 resistance zone of $500 with targets of $650 in the first half of this year, and $775 in all of 2024. Expectations are for earnings of $4.59 per share vs 88 cents in Q4 of '23 and $4.02 in Q3 of '24.

Yet large numbers of Americans believe the founders intended the U.S. to be a Christian nation, and many believe it should be one. The idea of a Christian America means different things to different people. Robert Jeffress, pastor of First Baptist Church of Dallas, said he doesn’t identify as a Christian nationalist, but does believe America was founded as a Christian nation. Six in 10 U.S. adults said the founders intended America to be a Christian nation, according to a 2022 Pew Research Center survey. About 45% said the U.S. should be a Christian nation.

Despite the market's lack of direction this week, investors nonetheless poured into some specific stocks, pushing them into overbought territory. The RSI, which measures the magnitude and speed of price moves, is a popular yardstick used to evaluate whether shares are overbought or oversold. A stock with a 14-day RSI above 70 is considered overbought, signaling a possible selling opportunity. Biogen is another stock on the list that took a sizable drop this week, with shares tumbling more than 7%. But Wall Street anticipates a turnaround, with the consensus price target reflecting the potential for upside of more than 38%, according to FactSet.

Many U.S. companies are grappling with health insurance coverage issues for workers when it comes to GLP-1 drugs for weight loss. Still, many benefits experts say it's a matter of when, not if, more employers will cover GLP-1 drugs. Certainly, prescription volumes of GLP-1 weight loss drugs are soaring. Even though GLP-1 drugs are high-priced, they currently represent only 6.9% of annual claims, according to data from the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans. It's going to be harder and harder not to cover these drugs because the benefits seem to be so great."

The benefits Income generation: The primary benefit of selling covered calls is the ability to generate income on your stock holdings. Candidates for selling covered calls Stocks with moderate growth expectations: Stocks that are expected to grow steadily but not explosively are good candidates. Novo Nordisk boosted the list price of Ozempic by 3.5% to $969 for a four-week supply. Eli Lilly last month raised the list price of Mounjaro by 4.5% to $1,069 for a four-week supply. However, they may have to pay the list price if they are uninsured or have not yet hit their annual deductible. Former President Donald Trump, who is running for election again, also unveiled several proposals and issued executive orders aimed at lowering drug costs during his administration. Another factor is the recent policies that penalize pharmaceutical manufacturers for raising list prices faster than inflation.

How to access the new weight loss drugs

(CNN) — By now, it is pretty clear that the new weight loss and diabetes medications have achieved blockbuster status. Unlike previous weight loss medications, they are pretty effective at helping people lose weight and keep it off — between around 15% to 20% of body weight — with relatively few side effects (although some people can’t tolerate them, and a fraction of patients experience more severe side effects). Zepbound, the newly approved weight loss drug from Eli Lilly, may be easier to find. “Otherwise, some physicians are prescribing older, generic weight loss medications that can be helpful for some patients.”These drugs are not right for everyoneFor many people, the cultural pressure to look a certain way is high. And join us next week on the Chasing Life podcast when we talk to WeightWatchers CEO Sima Sistani about whether these new weight loss drugs really signal the end of diet culture.
