It's a jaw-dropping figure — more than twice her previous $60 million deal with Spotify back in 2021 and higher even than the reported $100 million snagged earlier this year by SmartLess. But the "Call Her Daddy" host can't exactly sit back and cash a check for $41 million each year. She can earn as much as the widely reported $125 million — but it won't be easy. A podcast deal with a host like Cooper would be based on a certain number of downloads a month. Edgar Bronfman Jr.'s offer for a controlling stake in Paramount Global could keep Shari Redstone close to the company, if his bid is successful. Both Bronfman's bid and Skydance's bid would also include money to buy out a percentage of Paramount Global common shareholders. At $6 billion, Bronfman's bid would give cash to about 20% of Class B holders at $16 per share. The Paramount Global special committee will determine if Bronfman's offer is a superior proposal for shareholders by Aug. 28. PHOENIX — Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s campaign told a Pennsylvania court that he will be endorsing former President Donald Trump, ahead of his own Friday afternoon announcement putting to rest a tumultuous independent presidential campaign. The filing came shortly before Kennedy was set to take the stage at an Arizona press conference where he's expected to formally end his presidential campaign. Initially, Kennedy sought the Democratic presidential nomination, but he decided in October 2023 to run as an independent bid instead. The Kennedy campaign spent more than $8 million on campaign consulting from Accelevate 2020 LLC, a group that also does ballot-access work. Overall, the campaign effectively raised what it spent — it amassed $57.6 million and spent almost $54 million through July.

"Groundbreaking TV talk show journalist Phil Donahue died Sunday night at home surrounded by his wife of 44 years Marlo Thomas, his sister, his children, grandchildren and his beloved golden retriever Charlie," said a statement from his family. At his peak, his nationally syndicated "The Phil Donahue Show" — later renamed to "Donahue" — was a ratings hit and precursor to similar shows by hosts Montel Williams and Jerry Springer. "His show debuted nationally, and the whole country came to know his personal brand of issue-driven straight talk," Winfrey said in 2002. "If there had been no Phil Donahue show, there would be no 'Oprah Winfrey' show. "Phil Donahue essentially started this company and began an entire industry in daytime syndication," Bob Turner, then president of Multimedia Entertainment, said in a statement to the Times in 1996 when Donahue announced his retirement.

They'll hand 5%, or $25,000, to their agent, who then gives half, or $12,500, to the buyer's agent. They also feared that buyers' agents might "steer" clients away from homes that dared to offer less than the going rate. But in order to keep using the MLS, buyers' agents will have to abide by another rule that will further upend the old way of doing things. In the old days, a seller might have unthinkingly offered a commission of 2% or even 3% to the buyer's agent. The idea that sellers pay both agents' commissions has always been a clever sleight of hand.

When people say they're concerned about "the economy," it can mean a lot of things — grocery prices, gas prices, housing prices, healthcare. For one thing, it's not clear that voters think Harris, as vice president, has had much involvement in Biden's economic policies. People remember the Trump economy as a better time — interest rates were lower, prices were lower, houses seemed more affordable. AdvertisementThe task for Harris now is to lay out an economic identity and agenda before others beat her to it. The Trump campaign and the GOP are trying to tie her to the negative feelings around the Biden economy, to affordability and inflation.

And when Hillary Clinton lost the 2016 election, after Silver gave her a 71% chance of winning, he became the subject of much (misplaced) scorn. But the rest of the world wants to know who Silver thinks is going to win the 2024 election. It's no longer Trump's election to lose. And so if it's Harris 80/20 and Trump wins, or Trump 80/20 and Harris wins on election day, then that's running some career risk. At the end of [the] 1980s, Japanese companies accounted for like 51% of the global semiconductor market. So by doing this ... one thing undercut Japanese semiconductor chip makers' competitiveness in the global market. Another thing [is] that [it] forced open [the] Japanese semiconductor market to foreign players, and this creates opportunity for the U.S., South Korea and Taiwan. And Japanese companies are trying to both develop their own capacity but also attract phone companies to establish fabs there. So by collaborating with international companies, Japanese companies can leverage their existing technology and manufacturing techniques to expand their global share as well.

watch nowEconomists have said it is difficult to accurately assess the scale of the yen carry trade, with estimates varying widely. Some analysts, using Japan's foreign portfolio investments, say the yen carry trade could total as much as $4 trillion, Reuters reported. "The real Japan strategy is not just a quick carry trade, borrowing at close to zero interest rates in Japan and investing in high yield assets. Analysts at Barclays said systematic selling pressure does not appear to have been exhausted yet and it's "too early" to call an all-clear to the carry trades unwind. We expect volatility to remain elevated, which should continue to hurt EM carry trades," the analysts at Barclays said in a research note published Sunday.
