Officers caught up with Nichols and pummeled him in a Memphis neighborhood, police video showed. An autopsy report showed Nichols died from blows to the head and that the manner of death was homicide. The three officers now facing trial, along with Emmitt Martin III and Desmond Mills Jr., were fired after Nichols’ death for violating Memphis Police Department policies. Mills and Martin both have pleaded guilty in federal court and they could testify in the trial.

The council’s decision means “rental scooters will disappear from the city from October,” it said. A spokesman for Dott told CNN on Monday that the company had received an official notification from Madrid city hall on Thursday. New York CNN —Big Lots, the beleaguered discount retailer that previously warned it had “substantial doubt” about its survival, has filed for bankruptcy. As part of its Chapter 11 filing, the retailer announced that private equity firm Nexus Capital Management is acquiring “substantially all” of Big Lots stores and business operations. Big Lots blamed several economic factors for its bankruptcy, including high inflation and interest rates. Big Lots is in the process of closing roughly 300 of its 1,400 store across the United States. Big Lots joins a growing list of well-known retailers hitting financial turbulence as customers cut back spending on non-essential items.

After last week's steep sell-off, oil prices suggest traders are pricing in a demand slowdown that is similar to a mild recession, according to a Morgan Stanley analysis. Crude oil futures have declined precipitously in September, with Brent and U.S. crude oil on Friday posting their worst weeks since October 2023. Morgan Stanley is forecasting a surplus of about 1 million barrels per day in 2025. Demand Morgan Stanley looked for similar patterns in the past 35 years of Brent oil price data. Over the past five U.S. recessions, these stockpiles built by 150 million to 220 million barrels.
