It’s like there’s no point in asking who started this because it’s a really, really old antagonism. I think that’s probably what’s most critical right now is that all of our entertainment, our news media, it’s all made in cities. It was not until 2013 that it became the first South Korean rocket to place a satellite in orbit. SPACE CENTRES Russia also helped South Korea build its Naro Space Center while training and launching the first South Korean astronaut on a mission to the International Space Station. In his first summit with former U.S. President Donald Trump in 2018, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un promised to dismantle Sohae, but as talks stalled, North Korea expanded the site. North Korea faces the same challenges, and must avoid flying over South Korea. “The road from South Korea to space has opened now,” President Yoon Suk Yeol said after the 2022 Nuri launch.

When Barbara Kingsolver set out to write her latest novel, “Demon Copperhead,” she was already considered one of the most accomplished writers of our time. Kingsolver grew up in rural Kentucky and lives in southwestern Virginia. She wanted to write a novel about Appalachia from the inside, as someone who is a part of it and who grew up in it. “The story I wanted to tell was not about the big guys, but about the little people,” she told me. “Demon Copperhead” won the 2023 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and has been widely acclaimed for the nuanced portrait it paints of life in rural America.

"Barbenheimer" is off to a red-hot start at the domestic box office. Heading into the weekend, Warner Bros.' "Barbie" is expected to capture upwards of $140 million, if not more, over its first three days in theaters. Meanwhile, Universal's "Oppenheimer" appears destined to snare at least $50 million, with some box office analysts expecting it could top $60 million. With additional ticket sales from "Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One," "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" and "Sound of Freedom," it could be the highest-grossing weekend of the year so far. Major movie chains have indicated that ticket sales are strong for both films this weekend and additional shows have been added to accommodate demand.

But the unique accounting standards that the industry has long relied on to make those calculations is anything but straightforward. “Hollywood accounting,” as a concept, is so specific to the entertainment business it has its own Wikipedia page. And while experts say this kind of creative accounting is perfectly legal, the tactics involve some of the most fantastical fictions ever devised in Tinseltown. To actually make the movie, the subsidiary inevitably takes on expenses — crew wages, craft services, set design, props etc. That means all of these “creative” expense allocations shouldn’t affect what net profits the studio’s shareholders see.

Dark matter, invisible material whose presence is known mainly based on its gravitational effects at a galactic scale, would be a small but crucial ingredient in dark stars. Based on the Webb data, these objects could be either early galaxies or dark stars, Freese said. Conditions in the early universe may have been conducive to formation of dark stars, with high dark matter densities at the locations of star-forming clouds of hydrogen and helium. Freese and two colleagues first proposed the existence of dark stars in 2008, basing the name on the 1960s Grateful Dead song "Dark Star." And then you can learn about the properties of dark matter particles by studying a variety of dark stars of different masses."

“When the spring breaks the ice in the Mississippi River, I get up at 5:00 a.m. to row. The river is veiled with mist, and the water foams and whirls with driftwoods after a heavy rain. Woosh, the boat dashes like a long-legged insect, cutting the water in a straight line. Her grandmother used to sing to her: “Life is a river running to the sea, taking in every stream and every drop of rain along its way. UAE-based Emirates has launched a new private jet arm using Embraer Phenom 100EV business planes. Emirates hopes its new strategy will lure in more high-paying customers as private aviation booms. The demand for private aviation continues to hold strong post-pandemic, particularly in the Middle East where business travel has rebounded quicker than in other regions. On Wednesday, the carrier introduced a brand new on-demand charter service that will ferry elite customers from Dubai to cities in the Gulf region using a fleet of Embraer Phenom 100EV twin-engine private jets. "While it would give operators such as us stiff competition, business travel trends in the UAE still lean towards larger groups of ten travelers or more," she continued.

But it's a cruel summer for short-term rental hosts, as many vacationers are seeking out lower nightly rates and last-minute bookings, putting pressure on hosts in busier markets. To compile the report, AirDNA looked only at locations with between 100 and 500 whole-home listings with between one and five bedrooms. These spots proved a "happy middle ground" of established destinations that are not yet "name-brand" vacation spots, AirDNA Director of Enterprise Marketing Dillon DuBois told Insider. The higher a location's yield, the higher it ranked. AirDNA supplied all figures except for average home prices, which are from Zillow and used by AirDNA in its ranking.

Disney's Bob Iger said the company's TV and cable businesses may not be core. Disney's no-growth TV and cable businesses "may not be core" to the company and it will be "expansive" about how it treats them, CEO Bob Iger said. Iger said that while cable TV had declined faster than he expected, Disney's parks business is doing well, the studio business has been successful, and streaming has a bright future. There's been industry speculation that Disney might sell ESPN; Iger stressed that Disney was committed to the business. On recent box office misses in Pixar's "Elemental" and "The Little Mermaid," Iger acknowledged Disney's zeal to grow its streaming business contributed to some "disappointments."

But a 2,000-year-old Chinese concept called "wu wei" (pronounced "ooo-way"), which translates to "non-action" or "effortless action," can help us lead more balanced, fulfilling and successful lives. I always try to implement wu wei into my practice, because research has shown that it can help lower stress and anxiety, while increasing satisfaction and overall well-being. Here's how to make wu wei part of your daily routine:1. Instead of obsessing over every detail, practicing wu wei means understanding that things may not go exactly as planned. A spokeswoman for Mr. Iger said he was unavailable for an interview. In recent months, as Disney’s troubles have increased, senior executives have privately pressed Mr. Iger to renew. In its statement on Wednesday, Disney took pains to point out that it was the board, not Mr. Iger, that pushed for an extension. Mr. Iger is betting that streaming services will return the company to growth. But Disney+ has been shedding subscribers, and a broader streaming division remains unprofitable, losing nearly $2 billion since the start of the fiscal year.

Researchers hoped to find evidence of a healthy new generation of ospreys when they checked 84 nests of the fish-eating bird in mid-June at Mobjack Bay, an inlet at the southern end of the Chesapeake Bay. It was the lowest reproductive number in more than 50 years of monitoring the local population of the raptor, according to scientists at the College of William & Mary. And they said it represented the latest evidence in a long-term decline in breeding success due to the bay-wide depletion of the bird’s favorite food — Atlantic menhaden. The fish are nutrient-rich, a good source of Omega-3 fatty acids; they consume smaller organisms like plankton and they filter huge quantities of ocean water. But they are also a mainstay of the commercial fishing industry, caught in mass quantities to be processed into bait for crabs and lobsters, and in greater volume for so-called reduction fisheries, in which they are ground up and turned into products including fish oil and fish meal.

Stephen Prothero wrote the book “Religious Literacy,” about the absence of religious literacy in American civic life. I wonder how many people who are reading that have alarm bells going off about the state of American civil society. American religion has long been entrepreneurial, and American religion will likely adapt in ways that increase religious participation in the medium to long run. But I fear that American society and social services will suffer in the short run. This is my understanding of religion, of pluralism, of social change: If you tell an inspiring story, people will want to move in that direction.
