Here are 24 real-estate markets where rent is at least 10% below the national median. Median rent in the 50 largest US metropolitan areas dipped to $1,743 last month, according to an October 16 report from Realtor.com. Asking prices were lower year-over-year for the 14th straight month, though they were only a few dollars cheaper than in September 2023. Business Insider reviewed Realtor.com's list of the 50 biggest US cities and narrowed it down to the two dozen cities where rent was at least 10% less than the national median of $1,743 last month. Below are those 24 major US cities, along with each location's median rent in September, the year-over-year and month-over-month changes, and the savings versus the national median rate.

Two former Indiana University basketball players have sued their alma mater alleging their team doctor repeatedly sexually assaulted them and their teammates and the school did nothing to stop him. Delaney names the Trustees of Indiana University as defendants in the lawsuit, alleging Title IX violations by the school for failing to protect the students. Israeli officials were Wednesday scrutinizing an unusually stern letter from the U.S. government threatening to review military assistance to the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if it continued to block essential aid from entering the Gaza Strip. People involved in aid distribution in Gaza told NBC News that several trucks had entered Gaza City in the north of the enclave, but that aid had not been distributed elsewhere. While the San Andreas is the most famous, scientists know it’s not the only fault that can produce a powerful earthquake in Southern California. Midway into October, the vibrant fall colors have drawn thousands of visitors to New England’s trails eager to capture the beauty of autumn. But the influx of hikers has led to concerns about overcrowding and safety, especially in popular spots in New Hampshire. State park officials are excited to see so many people enjoying the outdoors, but they urge hikers — both new and experienced — to come prepared and be respectful of nature and others on the trails.
