The LA Dodgers' LGBTQ Pride Night turned controversial when an activist group that offended the religious right was invited. But their claim to have successfully boycotted a Dodgers game for its LGBTQ Pride participation and guests — notably echoed by presidential candidate Ron DeSantis — appears to be false. Ron DeSantis, who recently launched his 2024 presidential bid, tweeted in support of the protesters and claimed the stadium was "virtually empty." "The virtually empty stadium for the game itself was a powerful image," DeSantis said in his tweet. Jareck declined to answer Insider's other questions about the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence and the protesters.

In a "Meet the Press" exclusive, Pence dodged questions on whether he would pardon the former president. Pence said he has the support of all kinds of people, but wouldn't say if he's targeting Trump supporters. Still, Pence wouldn't say if he would pardon Trump himself if he were elected to the Oval Office, saying the "question is premature." We don't know what the verdict will be of the jury," Pence said in his NBC interview. "Look, I know the people in our movement, and I can honestly tell you that they're some of the best people in this country," Pence said.

Pride events across Florida are being canceled after DeSantis signs anti-LGBTQ bills into law. Cloud, organizers canceled an event after performers said they didn't feel safe attending. Organizers in Florida have already canceled several pride events, saying the state's targeting of LGBTQ people has created a "climate of fear and hostility." "But even after discussing with entertainment, the drag queens did not feel it would be safe for them to perform," Bozanich told WESH. Pride organizers in Florida have also canceled events in Tampa, Port St. Lucie, and Lake County, local news station Click Orlando reported.
In the meantime, DeSantis has been flying all over for what looks a lot like campaign events. Experts told The New York Times his delay in formally announcing may be a way to avoid campaign finance rules. As he tests the waters for a presidential run, DeSantis has traveled across the country. The Times reported DeSantis has visited several other states, including other key primary states like South Carolina and Nevada. Many of DeSantis' trips have been arranged by a Michigan nonprofit called And To The Republic, which promotes conservative policies.
The AP analyzed 130 bills across 40 states, finding common language attributable to a group called Do No Harm. Do No Harm is one of several right-wing organizations advocating against trans inclusion in healthcare. Do No Harm is much newer, launching last year in an effort to shield "patients and physicians from woke healthcare." "We know that woke medical education and research are already impacting healthcare providers, and now federal and state policymakers are forcing woke policies into medicine," Kristina Rasmussen, executive director of Do No Harm, said in an April 2022 press release. Several other medical groups have joined calls to stop anti-trans policies from taking hold across the nation — like the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Public Health Association, and the National Education Association, to name a few.
Prosecutors charged Penny with manslaughter after he killed Jordan Neely on the New York subway in April. Support for Penny is reminiscent of support given to Kyle Rittenhouse ahead of the 2020 election. Republican 2024 presidential candidates are lining up in support of Penny, a 24-year-old retired Marine who placed Jordan Neely, a 30-year-old homeless man, in a chokehold on the New York City subway that ultimately killed him. Another candidate, Vivek Ramaswamy, donated $10,000 to Penny's fundraiser, The Associated Press reported. The support for Penny is reminiscent of the support given to Kyle Rittenhouse ahead of the 2020 election.

Ron DeSantis' endorsement came in third. Kentucky Attorney General secured a comfortable win in the Republican primary on Tuesday, far outpacing a competitor endorsed by Florida Gov. Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron speaks to supporters following his victory in the Republican primary in Louisville, Kentucky, on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.
The White House may be walking back a decision to relocate the US Space Command headquarters to Alabama. "This is all about abortion politics," one official told NBC. Space Command is a department of the Air Force that protects the United States and its allies "in, from, and to space." "The belief is they are delaying any move because of the abortion issue," another US official told NBC, referring to the Biden administration. A White House official told Insider that laws regarding reproductive health were not considered in the decision-making process, questioning the accuracy of NBC's reporting.
John Durham, the Trump-era special counsel who for four years has pursued a politically fraught investigation into the Russia inquiry, accused the F.B.I. of a “lack of analytical rigor” in a final report made public on Monday that examined the bureau’s investigation into whether the 2016 Trump campaign was conspiring with Moscow. Mr. Durham’s 306-page report appeared to show little substantial new information about the F.B.I.’s handling of the Russia investigation, known as Crossfire Hurricane, and it failed to produce the kinds of blockbuster revelations impugning the bureau that former President Donald J. Trump and his allies had once suggested that Mr. Durham would find. Instead, the report — released without substantive comment or redactions by Attorney General Merrick B. Garland — repeated previously exposed flaws in the inquiry, including from a 2019 inspector general report, while concluding that the F.B.I. suffered from a confirmation bias as it pursued leads about Mr. Trump’s ties to Russia.
Seth Rogan threw his support behind striking writers and echoed concerns over the use of AI in writing television shows. Rogan said you'd have to "shove a lot of weed" into an AI model to get it to write good-quality TV. Members of the guild previously told Insider they are worried about the threat of AI models like ChatGPT usurping writers as a cheaper substitute. Studios will never act fairly or equitably without being forced to," Rogan told IndieWire. "I'm personally very disturbed and distressed by the lack of information that I personally get from these streaming services that we have films and television shows on," Rogan told the outlet.
Roy Cooper vetoed a bill to ban nearly all abortions after the first trimester. Roy Cooper vetoed a bill that would have banned nearly all abortions there after the first trimester. "This bill will create dangerous interference with the doctor-patient relationship leading to harm for pregnant women and their families. With its medically unnecessary obstacles and restrictions, it will make abortions unavailable to many women," Cooper said. In a tweet celebrating that the ban had been vetoed, Cooper said, "Let's work to keep it that way."
Supporters are raising defense funds for Daniel Penny, the man charged for killing Jordan Neely on the NYC subway. Penny is facing a manslaughter charge in the death of Neely, a 30-year-old homeless man. While Neely's behavior alarmed some passengers, one eyewitness told The New York Times that Neely never tried to assault anyone. The case has divided New Yorkers, who are grappling with a rise in crime on the New York subway system. "Justice looks like a conviction for murder," Edwards said at a press conference following the announcement of Penny's charges.

But with the release of its latest drone, Zipline is spreading its unmanned wings far beyond medicine. Zipline also has relationships with medical providers in the country, and in recent years has conducted long-range medical drone flights in challenging geographies including the Appalachian regions of North Carolina. In 2022, Zipline became the first company to receive FAA Part 135 approval for long-range drone delivery in the U.S., a huge step towards greater domestic expansion. From lunch deliveries with Sweetgreen to health prescriptions from Walmart, Zipline can maneuver peak order times by creating its Zips in a way that automatically redistributes the drones from dock to dock for loading and launching. Zipline has already completed 540,000 deliveries to customers, which is more than what Alphabet and Amazon have delivered combined.
A Texas legislative committee recommended a lawmaker be expelled for inappropriate conduct, per the Associated Press. The committee report said GOP Rep. Bryan Slaton, 45, had sex with a 19-year-old intern. Slaton and his attorney did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment on Sunday, but his attorneys previously called the claims "outrageous" and "false," the AP reported. "Children don't need to be focused on sex and sexualization," he said in an interview last year, the AP previously reported. The intern was "really dizzy" and had "split vision," the committee report found.
