Attacks on ships in the Red Sea are delivering another shock to global trade, coming on top of pandemic-related logjams at ports and Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The normal route — three weeks via the Suez Canal — has been shut down by the Houthi attacks. Chief executive Stuart Machin said the Red Sea trouble was "impacting everyone and something we're very focused on." For Europe, the impact is even bigger: 40% of clothes and 50% of shoes traverse the Red Sea. Norwegian fertilizer giant Yara said it was "only mildly impacted by the transit challenges in the Red Sea."

"For those of you younger than us who did not live through the Tech Bubble of the late 1990s, you are now living through Tech Bubble 2.0. CNN —A portrait by Gustav Klimt that was unseen for almost a century is expected to fetch millions when it goes up for auction this spring. However, new research by the auction house suggests Justus’ wife, Lilly, hired him to paint one of their two daughters. A cape richly decorated with flowers is draped around her shoulders,” the auction house said. Its exact fate after 1925 is “unclear,” according to the auction house. The last portrait completed by Klimt became the most expensive artwork ever to sell at a European auction, when it fetched a staggering £85.3 million ($108.4 million) in London last year.

Read previewThings are looking up — way up — for Oklahoma City. A California real-estate development firm said it wants to build the tallest tower in the US on an L-shaped plot in the Sooner State capital that currently holds a mundane parking lot. In December, Matteson Capital filed plans for an already eye-popping 1,750-foot-tall building for the site, located in a downtown Oklahoma City neighborhood called Bricktown. The current tallest building in the US is New York City's One World Trade Center, which stands at a patriotic 1,776 feet. AdvertisementDon't get too excited: To build a structure this big in Oklahoma City — where the current tallest building is the 844-foot-tall Devon Tower, home to a regional oil and natural gas company — Matteson will need to get city approval.

We're transitioning from a sleepy capital city into a midsize-to-major city," Jonathan Melton, a member of Raleigh's City Council, told me. The first wants to solve the problem of too little housing by, well, building more housing. But Melton and the YIMBYs' vision rankled some Raleigh residents who eventually started to push back on what they considered extreme pro-development policies. The new buses seem like a great idea, but as with all these changes, residents are worried that the route will have unintended consequences. It's worth noting, too, that most Raleigh residents, even those who oppose the current pace of development, point to some positives.

The US has attacked Iranian-backed groups in Yemen, Syria and Iraq, while Iran-linked groups have targeted American personnel in Iraq and Syria. The US, having been trying to pivot away from the Middle East for years, finds itself drawn back into the region. And in some places, including Iraq and Syria, the US military presence overlaps that of Iran and its allies. The US has around 13,500 US forces in Kuwait, the largest American military presence in the region. The US this month quietly reached an agreement that extends its military presence for another 10 years at the base.

Nearly 20 years later, the state legislature revised the law once more by requiring lifetime sex offender registration for those convicted under the controversial statute. Instead, the GOP-controlled Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday agreed to advance a proposal that would drop the lifetime sex offender registration requirement. In comments to a Kentucky House panel, Adams bluntly urged lawmakers to “not go backwards” as he defended the law allowing three days of no-excuse, in-person early voting. Adams' remarks were aimed at a Senate bill that would end the early voting days. “I’m keeping an open mind because I never was a big fan of early voting to begin with,” he said Friday. “There’s nothing bad and everything good with the way Kentucky adopted and implemented early voting,” University of Kentucky law professor Joshua A.
