Though the researchers couldn’t answer exactly why alcohol consumption was so high among the US adults surveyed, Lee has a few hypotheses. The height of the pandemic also saw an average of about 488 deaths per day due to excessive alcohol consumption; there was an increase of more than 29% from 2016-17 to 2020-21. “We’ve shown in studies that liver transplants for alcohol have increased fivefold in the last 20 years. We’ve also shown that alcohol deaths due to liver disease are surging,” he said.

She was elected in 2011 to her first political position – Florida attorney general – and was the first woman to hold that office. “Knowing her as a trial attorney and the attorney general,” Colton told CNN, “I feel that she would be very qualified for this job.”Dave Aronberg, a Palm Beach County state attorney who worked for Bondi when she was attorney general in Florida, told CNN that while Bondi will carry out Trump policies loyally, she is likely to treat Justice Department employees fairly. And for Trump’s opponents, Aronberg said not to expect a better pick for attorney general. “Pam Bondi is the best attorney general that Donald Trump is going to nominate,” Aronberg said. Since leaving the Florida attorney general post in 2019, Bondi has worked Ballard Partners, a lobbying firm with deep ties to Trump and his incoming chief of staff Susie Wiles.

☆ Blue Man Group to End New York Run After Three Decades Off Broadway

Blue Man Group, the wordless theatrical troupe of drum-beating, paint-splattering, bald blue performers, will end its run in New York on Feb. 2, more than three decades and 17,000 performances after it began. The troupe, which started as experimental street theater and is now a subsidiary of the global circus behemoth Cirque du Soleil, will also end its Chicago run on Jan. 5. But the show will continue to run elsewhere, with long-running companies in Berlin, Boston and Las Vegas, and a forthcoming run in Orlando, where it is scheduled to reopen next spring after a four-year closure prompted by the coronavirus pandemic. There have also been touring productions. The end of the New York production was announced in a news release by Jack Kenn, the company’s managing director; the release did not say why the show was closing, and a spokeswoman for the company declined to provide any further information.
