LIVINGSTON, Ky. (AP) — A railroad company promised hotel rooms and Thanksgiving meals for people asked to evacuate a small Kentucky town after a train derailed, catching fire and spilling chemicals. The CSX train derailed around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday near Livingston, a remote town with about 200 people in Rockcastle County. Two of the 16 cars that derailed carried molten sulfur, which caught fire after the cars were breached, CSX said in a statement. CSX promised to pay the costs of anyone asked to evacuate, including a holiday dinner. He asked the public to keep in mind the emergency workers and people forced to spend Thanksgiving away from home.

The award included nearly $50 million in compensatory damages, and $115 million in punitive damages. Monsanto said in a statement that it will contest Monday's verdict, and that blood, air and other tests show the school employees were not exposed to unsafe levels of PCBs. PCBs are chemicals once widely used to insulate electrical equipment and in other common products like carbon copy paper, caulking, floor finish and paint. Employees, students and others have claimed in numerous lawsuits against the company that exposure to PCBs at the Sky Valley center caused their cancers, thyroid conditions and other health problems.

Seen by U.S. anti-narcotics agents as one of the most ruthless Mexican drug figures, Perez Salas was detained in Culiacan, the Sinaloa Cartel's heartlands, and was taken to Mexico City, according to government detention records. "We're working side-by-side to combat arms trafficking, to tackle organized crime and to address the opioid epidemic, including fentanyl," Biden said. The U.S. and Mexico also agreed with China last week to stem the flow of fentanyl precursor chemicals from the Asian country. In January, Mexican authorities captured Ovidio Guzman in Sinaloa and extradited him to the United States in September.

But in a new study published Tuesday, some scientists claim it may not be recovering at all, and that the hole may even be expanding. In a paper, published by Nature Communications, they found that ozone levels have reduced by 26% since 2004 at the core of the hole in the Antarctic springtime. They used historical data to compare that behavior and changing ozone levels, and to measure signs of ozone recovery. “Altogether, our findings reveal the recent, large ozone holes may not be caused just by CFCs,” Kessenich said. “Those events have been shown to have strongly decreased the ozone hole size,” he said, “so including those events would probably have nullified any long-term negative trend.”
