CNN —A federal judge on Tuesday tossed out a Republican lawsuit that sought to segregate overseas ballots in Pennsylvania for additional vetting. The overseas vote has long been viewed as sacrosanct because of its connection to the military vote, and the Pennsylvania lawsuit – which would have jeopardized the ballots of service people abroad – drew a sharp backlash. He cited other procedural issues with Republicans’ lawsuit as well. In the Pennsylvania case, the Republicans were arguing that election officials should take additional steps to verify ballots cast in the state from overseas voters. Correction: This story has been updated to reflect the judge who ruled in the case is Judge Christopher Conner.

In fact, 1 in 13 American homeowners is currently uninsured, according to a recent Consumer Federation of America study. Considering that the average annual cost of homeowners insurance for a $300,000 mortgage has increased 23% to $2,230 in the last year, it makes sense why some homeowners are foregoing insurance or letting their policies lapse to save money. "The question isn't, 'Can I afford homeowners insurance?' Why you should always have home insuranceNot paying for homeowners insurance "is definitely a huge mistake," says Alaina Hixson, director of sales and operations at insurance provider The Churchill Agency. "While home insurance is often not cheap, the investment can save thousands and even hundreds of thousands in some cases."

"We believe we are still in the early stages of the AI growth story," UBS equity strategist Sundeep Gantori wrote in a Monday note to clients, noting the launch of ChatGPT in 2022 as an inflection point for AI adoption. "The company should benefit from healthy user engagement, improving monetization of Reels, and longer-term monetization of Instagram and WhatsApp offer longer-term opportunities," UBS wrote. Moving forward, UBS sees a favorable risk/reward profile for the name, citing steady iPhone growth and strong growth in its services, among others, as catalysts. UBS thinks this early adopter of AI applications is still "well placed" to benefit from use cases that are relevant to the industry. A week after health authorities publicly linked a deadly E. coli outbreak to McDonald's Quarter Pounder burgers, the company's CEO, Chris Kempczinski, told investors that the situation is now behind them. On Sunday, McDonald's said Quarter Pounder burgers would return to the roughly 900 restaurants where the company had pulled the menu item following the outbreak. McDonald's has stopped sourcing onions from the supplier indefinitely and will return the Quarter Pounder to menus sans slivered onions. As of Friday, 75 health cases across 13 states have been tied to the outbreak, including one death of an older adult. At least three lawsuits have already been filed against McDonald's by victims of the outbreak.

McDonald's on Tuesday reported quarterly earnings and revenue that beat analysts' expectations as its U.S. restaurants reversed last quarter's same-store sales decline. It's the second straight quarter that the company's same-store sales have fallen. U.S. same-store sales rose 0.3%, reversing last quarter's same-store sales declines but still slightly weaker than the 0.5% increase predicted by StreetAccount estimates. The company's two international divisions both reported steeper declines in same-store sales compared with the prior quarter. The international developmental licensed markets division reported same-store sales declines of 3.5%, driven by weak demand in the Middle East and China.

“Hey hey, ho ho, thank you, Joe, it’s time to go!”The success of former President Donald Trump’s campaign is becoming a catastrophe for sitting President Joe Biden. JPMorgan Chase has begun suing customers who allegedly stole thousands of dollars from ATMs by taking advantage of a technical glitch that allowed them to withdraw funds before a check bounced. A Houston case involves a man who owes JPMorgan $290,939.47 after an unidentified accomplice deposited a counterfeit $335,000 check at an ATM, according to the bank. “On August 29, 2024, a masked man deposited a check in Defendant’s Chase bank account in the amount of $335,000,” the bank said in the Texas filing. The infinite money glitch episode highlights the risk that social media can amplify vulnerabilities discovered at a financial institution. Customers who allegedly withdrew money fraudulently from Chase Bank ATMs using an illegal scheme that blew up on TikTok over the summer could soon have to cut hefty checks back to the bank. These people were able to withdraw funds by writing checks to themselves and immediately withdrawing funds before the checks bounced.
