Goldman Sachs announced its 2023 class of managing directors Thursday afternoon, giving 608 employees the coveted title. It's a smaller cohort than the bank's 2021 MD class, down 5% amid a dealmaking slowdown. Still, Goldman appears to have taken pains to promote employees in revenue-generating divisions like investment banking and trading. Goldman says the percentage of women it promoted as part of the 2023 MD class sets a record, up 1% from 2021. Two years ago, Goldman promoted the largest managing director class in its history, naming 643 employees to the designation in 2021.

CNN —Male sperm count has fallen by more than 50% globally in the last 50 years, leaving researchers scrambling to understand why. The men also had a 30% higher risk for a low sperm concentration, a less important measure of sperm count in a milliliter of semen. On the positive side, researchers found that as phone technology improved over the 13 years of the study, the impact on sperm count began to ease. As cell phone usage climbed, sperm count dropped, with the lowest levels among men using their phone 20 or more times a day. The greatest association between low sperm count and concentration and phone use were between 2005 and 2007.

Los Angeles CNN —Emergency responders found Matthew Perry “unconscious in a stand-alone jacuzzi” when they were called to his home on Saturday. “A rapid medical assessment, sadly, revealed the man was deceased prior to first responder arrival.”Perry was 54. The circumstances surrounding the actor’s death are being investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, LAFD said. CNN —The body of “Friends” star Matthew Perry is now with the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office and an autopsy is pending, according to online records from that agency. No foul play is suspected, a law enforcement source told CNN, however, the incident remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department Robbery-Homicide Division. Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey told CNN a 911 call came in Saturday at 4:07 p.m. for a water rescue emergency. Perry, 54, was found unresponsive in his hot tub, according to the Los Angeles Times, citing law enforcement sources.
