All of our Super Six megacaps were higher, even Club stock Apple was pushing to stay in the green after getting mixed reviews on Monday's iPhone 16 event. That's an interesting line because you could argue that Starbucks needs to pullback its aggressive expansion plans in the world's second-largest economy. The Swedish automaker said it now aims for between 90% and 100% of its car sales to be fully electric or plug-in hybrid models by 2030. "I think a lot of manufacturers are obviously going through this process [of delaying electrification targets] at the moment. The U.K., for instance, introduced a mandate that requires 22% of new car sales this year to be zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs). The mandate, which aims to reduce the number of polluting vehicles on the road, will rise annually until it reaches 100% of new car sales by 2035. Investors are waiting for the consumer price report on Wednesday. JPMorgan led a slide in bank stocks after easing its earnings optimism. AdvertisementUS stocks ended mixed Tuesday ahead of the August consumer price index report due out Wednesday morning. Most investors anticipate a 25 basis point rate cut, but any shock in the inflation data could shift that outlook in favor of a steeper cut. Ahead of each report, Tuesday's presidential debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris could also sway markets.

Former independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s name must be removed from North Carolina's November ballot, the state's Supreme Court ordered. The 4-3 decision by North Carolina's high court came hours after the Michigan Supreme Court ruled that Kennedy's name had to stay on that state's ballot over his objections. In all three states, Trump polls better in a two-candidate race than he does in a six-candidate race. The state Supreme Court ruling acknowledged "that expediting the process of printing new ballots will require considerable time and effort by our election officials and significant expense to the State." "But our election officials are professionals, and I have no doubt we will rise to the challenge," Bell said.

It’s the first day on the job for new Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol, and expectations are high. Niccol explained that he carries a “beat-up notebook” with him to outline and track his progress toward his career goals. Trusting his gut and believing in his ability to succeed, Niccol said, has made the biggest difference in his career up to this point. “There will be times in your career when your gut will be tingling,” he said, noting that he had that feeling when he left Taco Bell to become Chipotle’s CEO in 2018. Niccol used a 5-word phrase in a phone screening with former Starbucks chair Mellody Hobson to illustrate his confidence and preparedness for the job.

“The second reason that breast density is important is because having dense breast tissue raises a woman’s level of risk of developing breast cancer,” Feigin said. Breast cancer survivor JoAnn Pushkin, 64, has advocated for more than a decade that there be a national requirement for women to be notified of their breast density. Now I have lymphedema, and all because it was detected at that later stage,” said Pushkin, who has testified before the FDA about breast density and co-created the website DenseBreast-info.org, which features resources on breast density. The new FDA changes require facilities to provide patients with information about their breast density and include specific language in the mammogram result letter to explain how breast density can influence the accuracy of a mammogram. A study published in 2022 found that the breast cancer death rate dropped by 43% within three decades, from 1989 to 2020, translating to 460,000 fewer breast cancer deaths during that time.

AdvertisementThe premium that diners pay to have their food delivered can be hefty. That might make delivery seem like an obvious place for consumers to cut back their spending these days. DoorDash customers have continued ordering food — and, increasingly, groceries and other products — from the service, Xu said. He and his wife still have Thai food delivered, for instance, when they have friends over in the evenings and don't want to interrupt socializing with a trip to pick up dinner.
