☆ Google's cloud outpaces rivals in third quarter as AI battle heats up

With Wall Street laser focused on cloud computing this week, Google outpaced its rivals in growth, a key sign for investors that the internet company is gaining traction in artificial intelligence. Amazon Web Services, which remains the market leader, grew 19% to $27.45 billion, meaning it's more than twice the size of Google Cloud but expanding about half as quickly. Second-place Microsoft said revenue from Azure and other cloud services grew 33% from a year earlier. Five of the six trillion-dollar tech companies reported results this week, with AI chipmaker Nvidia as the outlier. Google reported a 17% cloud operating margin in the third quarter, after first turning a profit last year.

The final undecided voters could sway the election. But in a narrowly divided presidential election, voters who have put off making a decision until the last minute could find themselves with the power to decide the future of the country. Late-deciding voters broke for Trump in 2020 and 2016, with some analysts and strategists in both campaigns crediting them for electing Trump eight years ago. And it was true in 2020, when the pandemic and debates played an oversize role in the election featuring Trump and Joe Biden.

In NBC News’ early October national survey, just 4% of registered voters said they didn’t want to make a choice between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris. One said they plan to vote for Trump, another that they are likely to vote for Harris, and another plans to not vote at all. How anyone could still be undecided a week out from a critical election can be difficult to fathom for supporters of either Trump or Harris. Eric Bush, a systems administrator from Florida, said he’s waiting until he is in the voting booth to make his final choice. But he is still weighing backing Harris, acknowledging a vote for Harris could lead to bigger-government policies that could help others.
