A few days ago, S & P noted that the S & P 500 total return of 25.85% would only be up 9.49% ex the Magnificent 7. If you own the S & P 500 long-term, you are participating in those gains. The S & P is up 1,200 points (25%) since then and is knocking on the door of an historic high. The S & P 500 is overbought and expensive on most metrics. One word we will all say (most likely at nauseum) in 2024 is Optimus (Tesla's bipedal robot). Optimus was toting a gun and fired multiple shots on the new Cybertruck to reveal its bulletproof capabilities. Musk said Optimus would use the same technology and software as Tesla's vehicles, such as the Autopilot system and the Full Self-Driving computer. One of the multiple benefits germane to Tesla stock would be having these Optimus bots assist on the Tesla production line. BEFORE MAKING ANY FINANCIAL DECISIONS, YOU SHOULD STRONGLY CONSIDER SEEKING ADVICE FROM YOUR OWN FINANCIAL OR INVESTMENT ADVISOR.

Many Nvidia employees have become incredibly rich after the company's stock is up by about 1,200% over the past five years. Nvidia employees are also rarely put on performance-improvement plans, unlike some of its competitors, such as Amazon . Despite a growing number of companies launching their own in-house chips, Nvidia employees say they don't feel the competitive pressure yet. Three Nvidia employees, however, told BI that those chips never came up in customer conversations because, in their view, of Nvidia's superior performance. In other ways, Nvidia employees haven't let their riches go to their heads.

Meta and IBM have launched an alliance that's calling for an "open science" approach to AI development. Facebook parent Meta and IBM on Tuesday launched a new group called the AI Alliance that's advocating for an "open science" approach to AI development that puts them at odds with rivals Google, Microsoft and ChatGPT-maker OpenAI. An increasingly public debate has emerged over the benefits or dangers of adopting an open-source approach to AI development. AMD CEO Lisa Su has told investors that the company expects $2 billion in revenue from its new AI chips next year. Photo: robyn beck/Agence France-Presse/Getty ImagesNvidia was never going to have the artificial intelligence market all to itself. The past year has certainly made it seem that way, though. Nvidia’s sales have more than doubled—and its market value more than tripled—as major tech companies snapped up the company’s chips to capitalize on the explosive interest in generative AI sparked by the launch of the ChatGPT online chatbot a year ago. Intel and Advanced Micro Devices , two of Nvidia’s largest competitors, have seen their data-center sales shrink lately as the tech giants operating those networks have redirected their spending toward Nvidia’s specialized chip platforms.

Piper Sandler reiterated its buy-equivalent rating on Nvidia's stock and $620 per-share price target, which implies nearly 33% upside from its Friday close. After Nvidia's more-than-200% stock-price gain this year, investors are wondering what's "new" about Nvidia, Jim Cramer said Monday. The answer to that question is software, Jim said, which could eventually help offset the historically boom-and-bust nature of semiconductor sales. Over time, though, Piper Sandler believes software can become a "significant portion" of Nvidia's total revenue. Despite our alignment with Piper Sandler on Nvidia's long-term software opportunity, Jim on Monday cautioned that its stock could be due for a breather.

BUDAPEST, Dec 1 (Reuters) - The European Union should first sign a strategic partnership agreement with Ukraine instead of starting membership talks with the country, Hungary's Viktor Orban said on Friday, flagging a way to a possible compromise ahead of a crucial EU summit. Orban reiterated on Friday that several issues would need to be cleared before membership talks could start with Ukraine, saying the country, making it impossible to assess what consequences Ukraine's membership would have on the bloc. So I will represent the view that the EU should first sign a strategic partnership agreement with Ukraine," Orban said in an interview on state radio. "Let's give time for us to work together, and when we see that we can work together, then let's bring up the issue of membership." The Hungarian premier urged a ceasefire in Ukraine, and said if the EU wanted to give more money to Ukraine then it should set up a separate financial fund outside the EU budget based on an intergovernmental agreement.

The company's client solutions group, which includes its consumer and enterprise personal computer business, posted revenue of $12.28 billion for the third quarter, a near 11% fall compared to a year earlier. However, Dell has more impact than its competitors due to the weakness in the business PC market, which is a core market (for the company)," said Mikako Kitagawa, analyst at Gartner. Dell's servers and networking business revenue was up 9% from the second quarter, fueled by customer interest in generative artificial intelligence, Chief Operating Officer Jeff Clarke said. Revenue for the third quarter came in at $22.25 billion for Dell, missing estimates of $23 billion, according to LSEG data. The PC market is expected to bank on demand from AI boost, according to research firm Canalys, as it projects adoption of AI-capable PCs to accelerate from 2025 onward, with such devices accounting for around 60% of all PCs shipped in 2027.

Nov 30 (Reuters) - The Biden administration has forced a Saudi Aramco venture capital firm to sell its shares in a Silicon Valley AI chip startup backed by OpenAI co-founder Sam Altman, Bloomberg News reported on Thursday. Altman-backed Rain Neuromorphics, a startup designing chips that mimic the way the brain works and aims to serve companies using artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms, raised $25 million in 2022. The agency, the primary U.S. watchdog for deals with national security implications, instructed the Saudi fund to unwind that deal sometime over the past year, the report said. Altman and the U.S. Treasury, which oversees the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) process, did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment. The US has taken action that could block AI development in the Middle East.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang offered a glimpse into his unusual management style, including having "50 direct reports," in an interview with CNBC's Andrew Ross Sorkin on Wednesday. Huang says that he has so many direct reports — most executives only have 10 or so — because it keeps Nvidia from developing unnecessary layers of management. "The more direct reports a CEO has, the less layers are in the company. "The people that report to the CEO should require the least amount of pampering and so I don't think they need life advice. I don't think they need career guidance," Huang said.

It led to a shortage of Nvidia's chips as companies raced to incorporate similar generative AI technologies into their products. Amazon's own Trainium2 chips are built for training AI models, including the sort that AI chatbots like OpenAI's ChatGPT and its competitors run on. More than 50,000 AWS customers are already using Graviton chips, Amazon said. Finally, as part of its deepening relationship with Nvidia, AWS said it will operate more than 16,000 Nvidia GH200 Grace Hopper Superchips, which contain Nvidia GPUs and Nvidia's Arm-based general-purpose processors. AWS didn't announce release dates for virtual-machine instances with Nvidia H200 chips, nor instances relying on its Trainium2 silicon.

Hugging Face CEO Clement Delangue (R) departs the closed-door "AI Insight Forum" outside the Kennedy Caucus Room in the Russell Senate Office Building on Capitol Hill on September 13, 2023 in Washington, DC. Artificial intelligence startup Hugging Face says it's seeing increased interest from potential customers following the chaos at rival OpenAI. "I think a lot of companies, organizations now are kind of wondering about the risk about outsourcing their AI to just one AI provider," Hugging Face CEO Clément Delangue said Tuesday on a call with reporters. Multiple companies told CNBC they'd considered switching from OpenAI to competitors' services as the confusion swelled inside the company. OpenAI has a unique structure in that the parent entity is a nonprofit, with a so-called capped-profit company underneath that umbrella.
