NEW YORK (AP) — Nia DaCosta, director of the upcoming “The Marvels,” has a diagnosis for the recent struggles of superhero movies. It’s the first Marvel movie to feature not just all-female leads but a female villain (Zawe Ashton plays Dar-Benn), as well. While originally conceived as a post-“Endgame” follow-up to “Captain Marvel,” Marvel chief Kevin Feige was drawn to the chance to unite Captain Marvel with Rambeau from “WandaVision” and Ms. Marvel of her standalone Disney+ series. After making “Candyman,” a Marvel movie was, DaCosta says, “definitely not in my near future.” But it also wasn’t entirely off her radar. When DaCosta was tapped to helm “The Marvels,” Feige encouraged her to reach out to other Marvel movie directors for advice.

In January 2001, Kenneth Chesebro was a mild-mannered Harvard lawyer toiling for Al Gore during the 2000 presidential election recount battle. Two decades later, on Jan. 6, 2021, he joined the mob outside the Capitol, reborn as a MAGA-hatted kingpin. On Friday, Mr. Chesebro’s journey took another turn, when he pleaded guilty in a criminal racketeering indictment in Fulton County, Ga., and agreed to testify against former President Donald J. Trump and other co-defendants, including Rudolph W. Giuliani and several other top Trump aides. Mr. Chesebro’s trial, which had been scheduled to begin Monday, will no longer go forward. Liberal lawyers from his former life had hoped it would provide clues to an enduring mystery: What happened to “The Cheese?’’

His criticism of remote work marked an abrupt shift from a discussion about Tesla's car pricing during the company's earnings call. AdvertisementAdvertisementTesla CEO Elon Musk ranted against remote work during Tesla's third-quarter financial results call and criticized the work-from-home crowd as being "detached from reality." Because it mattered," Musk said, while drawing a comparison between remote workers to factory workers, restaurant workers, and delivery workers. After sharing his thoughts on remote work, he resumed the pricing discussion by saying, "So, I just can't emphasize again how important cost is." In May, Musk told CNBC he thought remote work was "morally wrong," and likened remote workers to Marie Antoinette's infamous "let them eat cake" remark.

Bill Ackman's misguided Harvard crusade

"The names of the signatories should be made public," Ackman fumed, "so their views are publicly known." Look, it's classic Wall Street to complain about the younger generation being a bunch of good-for-nothing freaks. A UPS worker says he started out making $9.50 an hour and now earns $100,000 at the company. The delivery driver says new drivers may be disappointed since it takes years to earn the top wage. I started as a warehouse worker in 2002 at 18 years old making $9.50 an hour and eventually got promoted to a delivery driver making about $100,000 a year — the maximum $44 an hour wage. When people apply to become a UPS delivery driver, they may be disappointed because it takes years of hard work to make anywhere close to that amount.

I never thought I'd write this but … I miss the old Goldman Sachs. That was the voice of Goldman Sachs 2009 — the adamantine firm that managed to make its way through the crisis relatively unscathed. This sort of dry humor worked back then, but for today's Goldman Sachs, the joke just doesn't hit the same way. Van Praag — who was once dubbed "Goldman Sachs' Rococo PR prince" by The Observer — left the firm in 2012. There are times when comparing a partner or potential partner to an ex is okay, and even healthy. Here are two ways to compare a potential partner to an ex that are helpful — and two that aren't.
