Federal prosecutors have charged the founder of an education technology startup spun out of Harvard who was recognized on a Forbes 30 Under 30 list in 2021 with fraud. AdvertisementAllHere, which came out of the Harvard Innovation Lab, created an AI chatbot that was supposed to help reduce student absenteeism. Smith-Griffin was featured on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list for education in 2021. AllHere's investors included funds managed by Rethink Capital Partners and Spero Ventures, according to a document filed in bankruptcy court. CNN —California is stripping the word “squaw” – a derogatory term for Indigenous women – from dozens of place names across 15 counties, state agencies recently announced. The updated place names are expected to go in effect by January 1, 2025. The upcoming changes are part of nationwide efforts to examine and replace derogatory terms on geographic features. The California Advisory Committee on Geographic Names approved renaming more than 30 locations, marking “a significant milestone for Native American women,” the California Natural Resources Agency (CNRA) said in a news release Friday. These place names should never insult communities or perpetuate discrimination,” Wade Crowfoot, the CNRA’s secretary, said in the release.

While Gaetz’s ability to be confirmed appears on the rocks among Senate Republicans, President-elect Donald Trump’s team remains confident he will eventually be confirmed, even if it’s after an ugly battle. A South Carolina man accused of making a series of racist death threats online to a New York reporter has been arrested. Austin Suman, 35, of Myrtle Beach, has been charged with willfully making a threat involving explosives and interstate stalking, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York said. Suman sent death threats Nov. 8 to the reporter via Facebook and email and used a racial slur and derogatory language, according to a criminal complaint unsealed Friday. Suman's anger stemmed from an article the reporter wrote about him in February 2019 about allegations of him threatening a roommate with a gun. Prosecutors said threats that neutralizing threats against the press are a priority.

Former Detroit Lions linebacker Leander Antwione Williams was arrested in Georgia on Thursday and is charged with assaulting police officers during the Jan. 6 attack at the U.S. Capitol, federal prosecutors said. Williams, who went by Antwione Williams in the NFL, played for the Lions during the 2016 season. He’s also charged with three misdemeanors related to entering and remaining on restricted Capitol buildings and grounds, disorderly conduct and acts of physical violence. The FBI interviewed Williams at his home in 2023 and noticed a red key fob similar to one seen in the Jan. 6 video, the FBI agent wrote. More than than 1,561 people have been charged in connection with the Jan. 6 riot, and of those, more 590 have been charged with assaulting or impeding law enforcement, according to the Department of Justice.

The situation has reached a fever pitch as cosmonauts scramble to patch problem areas and officials from Russia’s space agency, Roscosmos, and NASA disagree about the severity of the problem. Looming space station issuesNASA has contingencies in place for crew safety, but the space agency is also grappling with the fact that the leaking Russian module may pose a threat to the safety and longevity of the space station. In addition to Roscosmos, they include the Canadian Space Agency, European Space Agency and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency. Still, it’s not clear whether the commercial destinations will be ready before the space station is forced to retire.
