We know all about the Nasdaq-100 index and the 'Magnificent 7' hype lately, but what about the stocks next in line? Well, the Invesco NASDAQ Next Gen 100 ETF (QQQJ) tracks the next biggest 100 Nasdaq stocks after the Nasdaq 100 – roughly Nasdaq stocks Nos. This isn't a surprise given that tech is the biggest sector in the Nasdaq Composite itself. Most importantly, the top 10 NDX stocks represent nearly 46% of the entire index. In fact, a similar scenario occurred in 2022 that eventually led to QQQJ outperforming NDX later in the year.

Apple and Nvidia are "own, don't trade" stocks, so should they be kept as they are, or shrink down? First, let's address our idea of "own, don't trade" stocks. To main a diversified portfolio, we don't want any of our positions, even Apple, to get much bigger than 5-6%. That doesn't mean we don't love the name or no longer view it as an "own, don't trade," it simply means that while it is an "own, don't trade" we also still abide by the view that discipline trumps conviction (diversification and not don't be greedy being the two disciplines of focus in this case) and that overrides the own, don't trade mantra. When we say "don't trade" these two names, we stay invested in both and don't try to catch the next 10% move up or down.

– Thank you, Cathryn, San Francisco We certainly understand and agree it's becoming increasingly difficult to maintain a diversified portfolio that's not dominated by technology stocks. There are also what many investors would think of as tech companies in S & P 500 Communication Services , at an 8.6% weighting. After all, we would say Meta, Alphabet and Amazon are as much tech companies as Apple or Microsoft, with all three considered leaders in artificial intelligence. These are industrial technology companies, not the industrial companies of old. So, using some of the examples provided in the question: Yes, Microsoft and Apple are both considered Information Technology companies.

Five companies (Apple , Microsoft , Amazon , Nvidia and Alphabet ) make up about 25% of the S&P 500. The three largest ETFs (SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust , iShares Core S&P 500 ETF , and Vanguard S&P 500 ETF ) are all directly indexed to the S&P 500 and collectively have nearly $1.2 trillion in assets under management. The benchmark index closed at 4,594.63, nearly 6 points above its previous closing high for 2023 set in late July. The S&P 500 is up over 19% year-to-date after posting its biggest monthly rise in over a year in November. The S&P 500 reached its previous 2023 closing high on July 31, also spurred in part by excitement over developments in artificial intelligence technology. The megacaps' outperformance has increased their combined weight to well over one-fourth of the entire S&P 500, meaning the stocks' moves have outsized influence on the benchmark index. The S&P 500 currently trades at roughly 19 times forward earnings estimates, compared to a historical average of 15.6 times.

That's the conclusion of a new Morgan Stanley research report, which makes us feel really good about where we stand on both Club stocks. Each quarter, Morgan Stanley looks at under-owned stocks and over-owned stocks — basically which ones are overlooked and ready for a hot streak and which ones are crowded and ready to cool off. However, Morgan Stanley said Meta kept its most over-owned crown — and coincidently, its shares closed lower. To be sure, Morgan Stanley maintained an overweight rating on Apple shares. U.S. Dollar and Euro banknotes are seen in this illustration taken July 17, 2022. Deutsche Bank's CVIX (.DBCVIX) - the currency market's version of Wall St's "fear index" of stock volatility and a weighted average of implied "vol" in nine major pairings - has basically imploded. By driving short-term dollar cash rates and U.S. bond yields higher over the past 20 months, the Fed basically sucked cash from the wider investment world and supercharged dollar exchange rates everywhere. Now that it looks done, the buck's finally on the back foot - plumbing levels not seen since August. With implied volatility directionally biased, the dollar index and the CVIX are typically well correlated and both peaked in tandem in same month of September last year.

We always recommend an investor's first $10,000 should go to an S & P 500 index fund. So one option for putting all your money to work without making any one stock position too big is to keep adding to your index fund. Venezuela and PDVSA have around $60 billion of international bonds outstanding, which are in default. The S & P 500 closed at its bear market low a year ago Thursday — ending Oct. 12, 2022, at its lowest close since November 2020 . In hindsight, that dramatic turnaround was the start of a rally that saw the S & P 500 climb 22% from the close on Oct. 12, 2022, through Wednesday. Palo Alto Networks, meanwhile, has successfully pivoted to profitability, joining the S & P 500 as a result, and repeatedly demonstrated the quality of its cybersecurity platform. Indeed, an exchange-traded fund that gives each S & P 500 constituent the same influence — the Invesco S & P 500 Equal Weight ETF — has advanced only 11.2% since Oct. 12, 2022. Viewed through the top-heavy rally lens, though, it's not a surprise to see a number of Club stocks underperforming the S & P 500.

ISTANBUL, Aug 1 (Reuters) - Turkey's banking watchdog has stopped allowing credit card payments by instalment for foreign travel, such as flights, travel agency fees and accommodation, in a step seen dealing a blow to foreign travel operators. The move, which hit airline shares and was seen as curbing foreign currency outflows, was one of two measures announced by the BDDK watchdog late on Monday, which it said were among coordinated steps to strengthen financial stability. "The logic (of the step) is 'citizens shouldn't go abroad and spend foreign currency'," he said, adding that the foreign travel sector was also being hit by increasing difficulties faced by Turks in securing tourist visas. The credit card move also had an impact on airline share prices, with Turkish Airlines (THYAO.IS) dipping 1.3% and the airline Pegasus (PGSUS.IS) dropping 2.3%. The wider blue-chip CSI 300 Index (.CSI300) snapped a six-day losing streak to pop 3% and buying from state banks propped the yuan. Both oil and Treasury yields gave back some of those gains again today, however, with year-on-year crude price declines still tracking more than 21%. There was little ostensible reaction to the formal rebalancing of the Nasdaq 100 (.NDX) index that pared weightings of several of the big caps to reduce "over-concentration". The approach of Wednesday's Fed decision may limit market moves until then. They do not reflect the views of Reuters News, which, under the Trust Principles, is committed to integrity, independence, and freedom from bias.

Gold prices slipped as the dollar rebounded to its highest level in more than a week as investors prepare for next week's big central bank policy meetings, including the BoJ, the U.S. Federal Reserve and the European Central Bank. The yen weakened 1.13% to 141.68 per dollar, while the dollar index , a measure of the greenback against major trading currencies, rose 0.36%. BoJ policymakers prefer to scrutinize more data to ensure wages and inflation keep rising before changing yield control policy, five sources familiar with the matter said. The report added there was no consensus within the central bank and the decision could still be a close call. As Japanese inflation has stayed above the BoJ's target, traders have bet on the central bank ditching its yield curve control program, a move likely to cause the yen to strengthen.

LONDON, July 21 (Reuters) - Glencore (GLEN.L) on Friday said it expects profits at its trading division this year of up to $4 billion, exceeding its long-term annual guidance. It expects full-year trading earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) to be between $3.5 and $4 billion. The group left its overall 2023 guidance for copper unchanged at 1.04 million metric tons, even as production fell by 10% to 488,000 tons in the first half. "Our full-year production guidance remains unchanged from earlier guidance," boss Gary Nagle said in a release. "We estimate that this Friday will be the largest July-options-expiration on record driven by continued growth in index and ETF options volumes. The other major change is a special rebalance of the Nasdaq 100 Index , which takes effect at the start of trading on Monday. The Nasdaq 100 rebalance will dilute the impact of the largest stocks in the index. The changes could force index funds and other investment products benchmarked to the Nasdaq 100 to adjust their holdings. The biggest stocks in the market will soon get taken down a peg or two, at least on paper. The seven largest stocks in the Nasdaq-100 will be diluted down to 44% of the index from the current 56%. The changes mean the Invesco QQQ Trust and other funds that closely follow the index will need to sell some of the biggest stocks in the market this week. "Nasdaq slashed the NDX weight of AAPL from 20% to 12%, but this change had no clear negative effect on the stock's performance. The rebalance comes as the increased concentration of large-cap tech stocks has raised concerns the current market rally is unsustainable.

Now, especially after the sturdy June jobs report as week ago and the reassuringly cool CPI print on Wednesday, this is something closer to the prevailing view. The market all year has been acting as if inflation and the Fed's aggressive war against it were mostly 2022 problems. The wobble in early July after a blockbuster ADP employment report sent Treasury yields flying was over in a day. Passing these tests, and now having seen market strength broaden significantly since the end of May, belief is replacing doubt. And last quarter, the S & P went choppily sideways for the first month of reporting season.
