CNN —Authorities have received a flood of evidence and information related to the suspect charged in some of the Gilgo Beach killings since his arrest, the Suffolk County District Attorney told CNN on Monday. Authorities have had Heuermann on their radar for more than a year as investigators gathered enough evidence to make an arrest. The suspect’s wife and children are cooperating with the investigation, according to Carter. Authorities later said they believed Gilbert’s death may have been accidental and unrelated to the Gilgo Beach homicides. “We’re going to continue to work this case and work the entire Gilgo investigation,” Carter said.

Suffolk County Sheriff's Office/APHeuermann is charged with three counts of first-degree murder for the killings of Melissa Barthelemy in 2009, and Megan Waterman and Amber Costello the following year, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney. His father had built satellites for a living, Heuermann told the interviewer. They first connected him to the killings last year while conducting a review of evidence under a newly formed task force, which included the Suffolk County Police Department, the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office, the New York State Police and the FBI. Speaking of the arrest, Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison said Friday: “Rex Heuermann is a demon that walks among us.

Heuermann has not been charged in the case, but the investigation “is expected to be resolved soon,” the document states. I can only imagine what you’ve had to endure over the last decade regarding knowing that your killer was still loose. “For each of the murders, he got an individual burner phone, and he used that to communicate with the victims. By mid-March, Heuermann’s name showed up on authorities’ radar after a New York state investigator identified him in a database, according to Tierney. The victims’ remains “were out in a tough environment for a prolonged period of time.

The three women that Rex Heuermann is accused of killing — Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman and Amber Lynn Costello — were discovered wrapped in burlap near Gilgo Beach on Long Island’s South Shore in December 2010. A fourth woman, Maureen Brainard-Barnes, was found in the same spot, alongside the other victims, and Mr. Heuermann is also the prime suspect her death, according to the bail application from the Suffolk County District attorney’s office on Friday. The investigation into her death “is continuing and is expected to be resolved soon,” the prosecutors wrote. Mr. Heuermann, an architect who has lived most of his life in Nassau County and worked in Manhattan, on Friday pleaded not guilty to murder in the case of the first three victims and was ordered held without bail.

“After hearing about this case for so many years, it’s a shock to find out that your neighbor is a serial killer and you never knew it,” a neighbor, Cheryl Lombardi, said. The killings terrorized residents for more than a decade as body after body was discovered in the remote area about 40 miles from Midtown. In all, remains of nine women, a man and a toddler were discovered in the area. She disappeared during an escort job in Oak Beach, a gated community three miles from Gilgo Beach. Ms. Gilbert’s remains were found in December 2011, but investigators have said they do not believe her death is linked to the serial killer.

He was expected to be arraigned Friday after his arrest Thursday night in Manhattan, said Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney K. Harrison. "We anticipate an indictment later on this afternoon," said Harrison, whose agency and the Suffolk County district attorney are leading the investigation. According to NBC New York, Gilbert was not the only victim who was a sex worker. In May 2022, Suffolk County police released 911 audio related to Gilbert's disappearance. The development comes after a multi-agency task force made up of FBI, New York State Police and Suffolk County authorities was established in February 2022 to "reinvigorate" the investigation.

June 28 (Reuters) - Oracle Corp (ORCL.N) on Wednesday said it is adding generative artificial intelligence features to its human resources software for businesses, aiming to help draft job descriptions and employee performance goals, among other tasks. Many business users have approached generative AI technology more cautiously because it can make up untrue facts and be tricked into saying unsettling things. Oracle's human resources software is used by big businesses for hiring new employees and providing performance evaluations, among other things. "We don't expect generative AI is going to write your goals for you. If we can change that to hours and minutes, that's where we're really seeing the difference with the possibilities of generative AI," Waterman said.

June 16 (Reuters) - Iowa's highest court did not revive a 2018 ban on most abortions on Friday, meaning that abortion will remain legal in the state up to 20 weeks of pregnancy for now. Iowa passed a law banning abortion once a fetal heartbeat is detected, usually around six weeks, in 2018. The law was blocked because of the U.S. Supreme Court's longstanding 1973 ruling in Roe v. Wade, which guaranteed abortion rights nationwide. The Supreme Court overturned Roe last year, and Reynolds immediately sought to revive the 2018 law. The trial court judge said there was no legal mechanism for doing that, and three Supreme Court justices agreed.

Judith Miller, the author of popular antiques price guides and a member of the team of appraisers who determined what was trash and what was treasure on “Antiques Roadshow,” the beloved long-running BBC program that inspired the American series of the same name, died on April 8 in North London. Once, Mr. Wainwright recalled, at the reception for his mother’s funeral, a woman approached Ms. Miller and pulled a plate out from under her coat, wondering what it might be worth. Ms. Miller’s books, updated regularly, are encyclopedic in their range and eclectic in their categories. They describe thousands of objects — the current antiques edition lists more than 8,000 — each illustrated by a sumptuous color photograph. There were the usual suspects, like Royal Doulton Art Deco teacups and saucers, Meissen pottery, Murano glass and pages of Scandinavian ceramics.
And this year female surfers will be competing alongside the men for the first time in the 39-year history of The Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational. But author Stuart Coleman says The Eddie is distinguished by how it honors Eddie Aikau, a legendary Native Hawaiian waterman, for his selflessness, courage and sacrifice. Coleman said The Eddie is about the best of big wave surfing and the best of Hawaiian culture. “To see women — not only women surfing Waimea but women and men sharing the same event together, with mutual respect and equality — I’m just really thrilled at the thought,” Pennybacker said. Kathleen Pahinui, the chairperson of the North Shore Neighborhood Board, said it will be good for businesses, restaurants and shops.
Waterman’s husband, Jamie Waterman, was charged with assisting his wife and trying to prevent her arrest, according to the documents. Jamie Waterman faces a maximum 15 year sentence. Bush later told him via text to pick her up at the same shop, according to the document. Jamie Waterman led authorities later Thursday to the charred remains, the affidavit says. A lawyer for Jamie Waterman declined to comment.
A married couple was accused of kidnapping Thursday after the body of a missing pregnant woman and her fetus were found in separate locations in Missouri, authorities said. Benton County Sheriff's Office via FacebookSmith said he expected more charges against the couple, Amber and Jamie Waterman. Human remains were found that appeared to be connected to Bush's missing person's case, the McDonald County Sheriff's Office said. That would someone prey upon a pregnant woman at her most vulnerable state is unimaginable. Two counts of homicide were possible in the case because state law allows the charge in the killing of a pregnant woman, Smith said.
