Stock futures were little changed in overnight trading Sunday as investors waited to assess whether the next batch of key corporate earnings could power the market to more records. S&P 500 index futures were flat, while Nasdaq-100 futures dipped 0.1%. The S&P 500 closed above 5,800 for the first time, while the blue-chip Dow also reached an all-time high. The S&P 500 has gained nearly 22% this year, excluding reinvested dividends. Treasury yields have risen lately too, with the benchmark 10-year note yield, used to calculate everything from mortgages to auto loans, topping 4.1% last week.

"As long as the big three PBMs go unchecked, more pharmacy deserts will appear," Rochol said. Between 2023 and 2024, independent pharmacies in the CVS Caremark pharmacy network were reimbursed 67.5% higher on average than CVS Pharmacy locations, and 51.9% higher than other chain pharmacies in the state. The CVS spokesman also said that CVS pharmacies are not all serviced by Caremark, working with over 70 different PBMs. "There are unfortunately many factors for pharmacy closures in rural areas, including population declines and the growing use of online pharmacies." But Banas believes the pharmacy deserts will only grow, and lead to an increase the number of apps and digitization.

Amazon plans to bring same-day prescription delivery to 20 more cities next year, the company said Wednesday, marking the latest phase of its push into health care. As part of the expansion, which will make speedy medicine delivery available in nearly half of the U.S., Amazon said, it is embedding pharmacies in same-day delivery facilities often clustered around major metro areas. Amazon in March introduced same-day pharmacy delivery in New York and Los Angeles, after launching the service in Indianapolis, Miami, Phoenix, Seattle, and Austin, Texas. Launched in 2020, Amazon Pharmacy was born out of the company's 2018 acquisition of online pharmacy PillPack. It launched then shuttered its telehealth service, Amazon Care, along with a line of health and wellness devices.

The growing prevalence of one- and same-day delivery has made Amazon a much more convenient to place to shop for everyday essentials. "If people buy everyday essentials on Amazon, they're more likely to buy other products too," said Jeff Marks, the Club's director of portfolio analysis. This added convenience in ordering everyday essentials from Amazon comes at a challenging time for physical retailers known for selling those same products. The company likes "to be in the consideration set for consumers" in the everyday essentials since it helps drive market share gains, Olsavsky said.

New York CNN —A year ago, America’s stores declared a shoplifting epidemic. Target also closed nine stores, saying “theft and organized retail crime” threatened worker and customer safety and made business unsustainable. Many retailers’ merchandise losses have stabilized or improved, and chains have publicly dialed back their rhetoric. Their shrink rate — lost inventory as a percentage of sales — is their best estimate for items that go missing. The shoplifting rate in the first half of 2024 was also 10% higher than in the first half of 2019.
