CNN —Despite throwing a career-high five interceptions, Jared Goff led the Detroit Lions to a come-from-behind 26-23 victory over the Houston Texans on Sunday Night Football at NRG Stadium. The Lions trailed 23-7 heading into halftime after Goff threw three interceptions in the first half. Goff threw a career-high five interceptions in the Lions' win. Goff threw for 240 yards and two touchdowns while running back Jahmyr Gibbs added 71 yards on the ground. The Lions host the Jacksonville Jaguars next week while the Texans head to Dallas to take on the Cowboys on Monday Night Football.

In the 30 years between the Detroit Lions’ winning divisional titles — a drought that lasted from 1993 to 2023 — the division they were in changed names. Meanwhile, in the same period, the Green Bay Packers were dominant. Are the Packers and Love about to embark on another run of divisional dominance? Whatever this division has been called for the last 30 years, the odds were Green Bay was going to win it. If this really is a new era of Detroit football, Sunday is a chance for the Lions to make a statement.

Yet this season he is on pace to produce marks in passer rating, air yards per attempt, yards per passing attempt, quarterback rating, passing yards and interceptions that are better than in either of his previous MVP campaigns, in 2019 and 2023. Goff has been a model of efficiency, completing 74.1% of his passes while posting career bests in yards per attempt and passer rating. While other NFC contenders have struggled, Detroit looks arguably better than a season ago. By rushing for a league-leading 946 yards on 6.5 yards per carry — an incredible 1.1 yards more per rush than he averaged in that historic 2020 season — he’s taken pressure off of Jackson. That not only explains the play, but what Daniels has brought to a Commanders team that won’t go away.

Houston Texans wide receiver Stefon Diggs will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL, head coach DeMeco Ryans said Tuesday. Diggs, 30, suffered the injury during the Texans’ 23-20 win over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 8. Houston traded a second-round and fifth-round pick to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for Diggs and a sixth-rounder in April. A fifth-round pick in 2015, Diggs had recorded at least 1,000 yards receiving every year since 2018. Houston is already without receiver Nico Collins, who was placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury after Week 5.

CNN —There was plenty for fans to get their teeth stuck into in Week 7 of the 2024 NFL season. They are the only remaining undefeated team in the NFL after overcoming their recent rivals, the San Francisco 49ers, on Sunday. All-in-all, after seven weeks of the NFL season, the AFC is heating up with multiple potential superpowers really kicking into gear. And things went from bad to worse on Sunday when starting quarterback Deshaun Watson suffered a season-ending injury. On Monday, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanksi confirmed that Watson had suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon, ending the quarterback’s season.

It takes a lot of things to go right to lead an NFL division near the season’s midway point. Yet for half of the league’s first-place teams, things went wrong in Week 7. The Vikings’ loss also broke their undefeated start. With its win and San Francisco’s loss, Seattle jumped into first in the NFC West. And in a meeting of two first-place teams, San Francisco (3-4) lost 28-18 to Kansas City.

But what was most impressive about this game was the Packers’ defense. Love has to be better and the offense will have better days, but the Packers defense was lights out. The Lions are the best team in the NFC at the moment, maybe even the best team overall. But the Lions looked like the best team in the division heading into the season, and they looked like the best team in the division on Sunday. CNN —San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall will be activated for the team’s Week 7 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan, seven weeks after he was shot in the chest during an attempted robbery in San Francisco’s Union Square. He’s been around the guys for a while now, so it’s not like he hasn’t been around, but practicing all week,” Shanahan said. “He’s got roles on special teams, he’s got his role at receiver, and we’ll see how the game unfolds. San Francisco has been ravaged by injuries throughout the season, with star running back Christian McCaffrey still on injured reserve and yet to play this season.
