That’s the way two leading experts on urban warfare described the prospect of a ground attack by Israel on Hamas’ base in the streets and tunnels of Gaza. It’s in a body of knowledge on how to do this big of an urban operation as fast and effectively as possible. Israel continues to deploy soldiers and armored vehicles along the Gaza border in Zikim kibbutz of Ashkelon, Israel on October 14. In the concrete jungle of urban warfare, most of your weapons may not even penetrate the building the enemy is in. Those are just a few of the takeaways in a new book, “this is so awkward,” aptly lowercased and titled to break down all things puberty for today's parents. The book, out this week from Rodale, is written by pediatrician Cara Natterson, whose “Care & Keeping of You” series has sold more than 7 million copies, and Vanessa Kroll Bennett, a puberty educator and Natterson's co-host of “The Puberty Podcast." AP: One of the things that really struck me about the book is the often inconclusive state of science on puberty, leaving parents to suss out the truth for themselves. So issues of sleep, issues of self-esteem, issues of body image. This is a perfect opportunity for a do-over because controlling our kids' social media feels so big and it feels so hard.

New York CNN Business —A New York judge ruled last week that former President Donald Trump inflated the value of his Mar-a-Lago estate by an eye-popping 2,300%. But the Mar-a-Lago finding in particular is raising eyebrows among real estate and legal experts because of the metric Judge Engoron relied on: the county tax assessor’s appraisal value. It’s a well-known fact,” said Eli Beracha, chair of the school of real estate at Florida International University. “A discrepancy of this order of magnitude, by a real estate developer sizing up his own living space of decades, can only be considered fraud,” Engoron wrote. Cintron, the Harrington Ocko & Monk partner, doesn’t think the Mar-a-Lago valuation controversy moves the needle on the question of whether Trump committed fraud.

The 200 and 400m freestyle Olympic gold medallist and 400m freestyle world record holder told followers on Instagram she would be taking some weeks to rest after the operation. CNN —For any Republican presidential candidate not named Donald Trump, making the first primary debate on August 23 in Milwaukee is an essential obstacle to overcome. The Republican National Committee set minimum viability requirements that numerous candidates are having trouble meeting. But the FEC – which is evenly divided between Democrats and Republicans – often struggles to agree on enforcement actions. But that perhaps is not surprising – given how large Trump, his former boss-turned-nemesis, looms over the hard-core Republican base. How is Trump making money these days?

New York CNN —If you’ve organized your life around a fully remote or highly flexible hybrid work schedule over the past three years, it can feel jarring if your employer decides to change the rules on remote work and require or enforce more on-site attendance. This, despite the company previously telling staffers most of them would be working remote full time, according to the Wall Street Journal. In addition, according to CNBC, it also said it hopes that employees working remotely full time will consider working a hybrid schedule instead if they live near a Google office. “Changes in remote work policies can certainly create significant risk to employee retention and engagement, depending on how drastic the changes are and how effectively they are executed by managers,” Wigert noted. What do you need to do your best work?

The pharma giant Eli Lilly said donanemab slowed cognitive decline in people with Alzheimer's. The news comes months after the FDA approved an Alzheimer's drug called Leqembi. On Wednesday, the pharma giant Eli Lilly said its experimental drug donanemab had successfully slowed cognitive and functional decline in patients with early-stage Alzheimer's, offering some hope to people with a condition that lacks good treatment options. In the trial, patients received donanemab until scans showed their brains were clear of those proteins, called beta-amyloid. Leqembi slowed the rate of cognitive decline in Alzheimer's patients by 27% over 18 months in a late-stage study.

CD rates have been rising rapidly over the past year, thanks to the Federal Reserve’s efforts to fight inflation. And there’s potentially a bigger issue at play: Regardless of where you stick your cash, interest rates’ odd behavior suggests the economy may be out of whack. CD rates have climbed dramatically since the Federal Reserve embarked on its campaign to fight inflation, which peaked at nearly 10% late last year. But the Fed faces a conundrum: Hiking interest rates to fight inflation also slows economic growth. Short term rates remain high, while longer term rates—reflecting grim economic prospects in years to come—fall off.

Seattle CNN Business —Microsoft’s Bing search engine has never made much of a dent in Google’s dominance in the more than 13 years since it launched. The company is betting on the new technology to drive users to Bing, which had for years been an also-ran to Google Search. Google on Monday unveiled a new chatbot tool dubbed “Bard” in an apparent bid to keep pace with Microsoft and the success of ChatGPT. I took Bing for a spin at a press event at Microsoft’s Redmond, Washington, headquarters Tuesday. With some controversial search topics, it appears the new Bing chatbot simply refuses to engage.
Vial's CEO asked workers to post positive Glassdoor reviews to counter negative ones, Insider found. In a month, 20 positive reviews for Vial flooded the site, raising its rating from one to 3.8 stars. On December 12, Simon Burns, a cofounder and the CEO of the healthtech startup Vial, sent a Slack message in his company's "random-kudos" channel. He included a link to Vial's Glassdoor page and asked other employees to "give her a hand, review us on Glassdoor." In earlier days at the startup, negative employee reviews on Glassdoor cited a toxic culture, a disconnected leadership team, and a lack of industry experience.

Meanwhile, abortion-rights advocates and the ballot initiative groups they’re working with said preliminary efforts are also underway in Florida, Missouri and other states. Meanwhile, voters in two Democratic states, California and Vermont, chose to officially protect abortion rights in their constitutions. “Reproductive rights is a winning issue. The Dobbs decision had a huge impact,” said Chris Melody Fields Figueredo, the executive director of the Ballot Initiative Strategy Center, which works with progressive organizations to help advance citizen-led ballot measures. “And what we know — that about a majority of Americans actually support reproductive rights and abortion access — means we have an incredible opportunity.”
